Why can't I stop eating junk?

I have got a kitchen full of healthy options, yet came home at lunch today and had two packets of crisps and two iced buns! Then I wonder why I've felt like absolute s**t all day! It's not unusual either, I think it's been going on for weeks now. I don't think it's any kind of craving, I think it's me feeling tired and emotional and thinking 'I'll eat what I damn well like'! Then after I've stuffed myself with rubbish I feel lethargic, a bit sick and incredibly guilty that I'm not giving my baby a healthy diet. I'm six and a half months gone and I know that a good diet is essential now but I can't stop eating all the wrong things. I must be so selfish. What the hell is the matter with me?

jojo76 · 11/10/2006 21:35

I went off everything healthy during my nauseous period at 7-10 weeks. Fortunately the nausea went pretty quickly and I was able to eat normally again - still get a bit wobbly at the smell of red peppers though.

I lived on Supernoodles, Pot Noodles, chicken and gravy pies, mashed potato, rice, toast, cream crackers and rice cakes for about three weeks. Couldn't stomach any fruit or vegetables. Felt really bad as I'm normally a really healthy eater and felt I was disadvantaging my baby. Couldn't help it though - anything healthy just came straight back up and it was bland carbs all the way for me!

Don't worry about it at all. Your baby will take the nutrients it needs to grow and develop - you'll be the one left feeling lethargic, and looking like death! I just knew when I was ready to try vegetables and fruit again - you will too. In the meantime, just eat what you can even if it's unhealthy - still better than not eating at all!

I'm not the only one then! Nearly 8 weeks and I either don't feel hungry at all or all I fancy is crap - although I did manage a banana this morning (really proud of that)! My main worry is the same, that this will continue because I don't feel any better for it and I'm sure my weight will start to suffer soon so pleased to hear it may wear off and I'll be able to go back to eating more healthily.

redbullbloodandbump · 12/10/2006 13:19

BIGlilBUBU · 12/10/2006 19:54

I just ate the bad stuff and the good stuff. Best of both worlds...

incy · 13/10/2006 15:21

Has nobody had any lovely junk food they can share with me today ? Plain hula hoops for me (again) seem to stop the morning sickness....

LittleJem · 13/10/2006 15:28

Packet of plain crisps for me today too! Last night at about 11, just had to have a bacon sarnie - with HP (which I've never touched before)!

incy · 13/10/2006 15:29

OOh a bacon sarnie with brown sauce

LittleJem · 13/10/2006 15:31

It was fantastic, but the smell of bacon in the kitchen afterwards was incredible - so strong! Cannot bear the smell of bananas either (although don't have a problem eating them as long as they're not too ripe)

MrsTittleMouse · 13/10/2006 15:37

Ooo! Bakewell tarts!

Ate 6 of them yesterday and saved 1 each for DH and DF. I thought that that was very generous of me, considering. They had other ideas!
Hm, might have to go and get some crisps though... or maybe another packet of cherry bakewells...

zombiebridepenny · 13/10/2006 15:45

I am sure babys like a bit of junk food, Did anyone read that a new swedish report which said you could influence your childs future taste preferences simply by what you choose to eat while your pregnant.
It flavours the fuild surrounding the baby Apparently.
Take today for instance, I was disappointed to find baby wanted pick and mix from Woolworths Again,..and forced me to overload the bag.
Disappointing...

incy · 13/10/2006 15:46

Lol zombiebridepenny ...blame the baby !
