When did/are you going to tell your employer, and everyone else? Did you wait until after the 12 week scan?

I have to tell employer straight away due to nature of my job....

I don't plan to tell anyone except best friend until I really have to,

magneticfield55 · 06/10/2014 19:11

6 weeks Shock Had to, had severe vomiting and exhaustion from the off! They're more excited than I am!

avocadotoast · 06/10/2014 19:18

I told mine pretty much as soon as I found out, but I've only told my team leader, nothing formal as such yet. Then again my tl is super nice and supportive, so I might not have told if she wasn't! I thought I'd rather have someone know in case I needed time off for whatever reason.

tippytappywriter · 06/10/2014 19:20

First time about 6 weeks because I was so I'll. Second time after 20 week scan.

Turquoisetamborine · 06/10/2014 19:21

The first time I announced it to the entire office at 5 weeks. No idea why I did that! Luckily everything was ok but people said it was the longest pregnancy ever!

This time I told my boss at 5 weeks only coz I'd had ivf and she was kind of waiting for the result as I'd had time off during the treatment. I won't tell the rest of the office til 13 weeks.

PotteringAlong · 06/10/2014 19:24

6 weeks for both pregnancies.

m33r · 06/10/2014 19:37

6 weeks told my boss only as I felt the longer we had to plan for my mat leaver (we're a small snr leadership team) the better but he kept it to himself at my request. After the 12 week scan I was do glad I did as thinking about going in to say I'm three months would have stressed me out where I got to text him and say 'all fine; thanks for your support, will get formal letter to you ASAP'. It just took the stress away BUT he is a great guy and would've been totally appropriate if it had been bad news.

Watching with interest. Got my 12 week scan on Friday and not sure when I'm going to tell work.

BanglesSpangles · 06/10/2014 20:01

After the 12 week scan- was feeling fine and in a desk job so there was no real reason to say anything earlier, but im only in a small office and another girl was due to start her mat leave 6 weeks after my scan, so it only seemed fair to give my boss time to plan for two of us being out

redexpat · 06/10/2014 20:57

I was on placement, not employed as such so told them as soon as i had poas. Was v keen to point out that any tiredness was tiredness, not lack of wanting to be there.

heidibuttons · 06/10/2014 21:05

Hi there, I am keen to keep quiet at work until 12 weeks, but what do I say when I need time for my booking appointment and first scan? Any good excuses?

Elledouble · 06/10/2014 21:33

I've just told them I have medical appointments, they haven't asked what for Smile

heidibuttons · 06/10/2014 21:38

I am hoping that will work, but my manager is always suspicious and also very nosey. She was just about jumping for joy when someone at work had 'slapped cheek' and it meant she could go round all the women checking if they were pregnant!

plinkyplonks · 06/10/2014 21:43

I told my immediate manager at 5 weeks and the rest of the damn office at 7 weeks (unintentionally!)

Newmom2b · 06/10/2014 22:17

I told work after 12 week scan with ds1 and this time round I have just told work at 24weeks! Eek

mammycampbell · 06/10/2014 23:13

13 weeks first time round.

Second pg I had a big bleed at 5.5wks. Scan at EPU didn't find anything. Told my boss I was miscarrying as wasn't sure if i would need some time off. When I saw the tiniest heart beating on the monitor a few days later, I asked him to cancel the leave :)

I'm pretty sure that's the earliest notice they have ever had! 30 wks now, 6 weeks left at work, it's gone so quickly.

I'm hopefully telling this week and I'm really nervous about it, for no real reason! this is 14 weeks for me but is just the right time as I'm about to have to do a whole load of heavy lifting!

skyra13 · 07/10/2014 07:35

I told my boss when i found out as i do lots of heavy lifting and physical work!

barmybunting · 07/10/2014 07:37

At 10 weeks, but I had had an early scan at 7 weeks and seen a heartbeat so I am not sure if I would have been comfortable saying until after my 12 weeks scan otherwise. I asked my boss to keep it quiet until after my second scan

ladyflower23 · 07/10/2014 07:57

I told work last week at 15 weeks but already have massive bump so entire office has already guessed and my boss has already decided who would do my mat leave cover. Everyone was like 'oh Yeh I know. I was wondering when you were going to tell us. Is it twins?'

katiegee · 07/10/2014 08:04

I told my immediate line manager when I was 7 weeks... a combination of morning sickness and there being some things it was risky for me to do when pregnant. I was probably18-20 weeks when most of my colleagues found out and I only officially told HR when I applied for maternity leave when I was 26 weeks.

happypotamus · 07/10/2014 08:23

As soon as I knew. I didn't want to do that, but had to because of the bits of my job it was no longer safe for me to do. I told my manager but then everyone else found out quickly because they were having to do some of the things I couldn't or I was having to justify why I wasn't doing them.

twiglet2 · 07/10/2014 10:21

I told my manager at 11 weeks as I needed the time off for the scan, and knew I could trust her to keep it quiet. Told everyone else after the scan - I'd felt really sick for quite a while and it was a relief not to have to hide it any longer.

smogsville · 07/10/2014 10:27

Will be watching this thread with interest.

Told boss at 14 weeks last time. I will probably do the same this time, scan is next week, it seems you can now get nuchal results on same day rather than two week wait (?) in which case I might just tell her next week.

Someone in team has literally just resigned so I'm not looking forward to sharing my news. I think I'll do it earlier rather than waiting until after 20 wk scan to give maximum time. I'm now PT so easier to plan scans and appointments for my non working days this time around.
