Big or small? Did your bump size match the weight of your baby?

First baby- having people tell me I'm MASSIVE in their own lovely wording- and then people telling me I'm not that big!!
What do you think?
I'm 26 weeks pregnant and a size 10/12 pre-pregnancy.
Also did your bump size match baby weight? I'm scared I'm going to have a big one! A lot of big baby's in our family!

My bumps measured right for dates according to the tape measure yet everyone kept telling me I was 'very neat' both times. I think it was probably because I really only gained the bump and very little extra weight. After I'd had the babies I was about 3-4kg over my pre-pregnancy weight both times. My babies were 6lbs 8oz and 6lbs exactly, so not big at all.

Wow your lucky!! I know I've put on quite abit of weight but it seems now I'm pregnant everyone's a doctor and knows exactly what size my bump should be !!

I did have a few "you're huge" comments around the mid-20s, mainly I think because I went from having no bump at about 20 weeks to suddenly having a normal-for-dates sized bump a couple of weeks later. So I probably did look massive compared with two weeks previously!

That was after they were born. Total weight gain each time was about 11kg.

Ignore them OP.

I put on approx 11 pounds with both pregnancies and was told by everyone how huge I was. I was told both babies would be massive. They were 7lb 5oz and 7lb 6oz.

You look spot on to me. People tell me that I'm huge (nice of them eh!) and I am measuring 2-3 weeks ahead between midwifes fundal measurements and ultrasound. I was conscious of it before but now as long as he is safe and healthy I don't care. I will admit to a little cry when my wedding ring got too tight and I found 3 stretchmarks.

I had small bump but big babies. Loads of fluid as well.

Bump size is no predictor and tbh when people comment on bump size I think they are often just trying to make conversation.

Yeah I thought that people were just trying to make conversation .. But when a woman in waitrose said 'wow I'll be surprised if you last another 15 weeks ' and then another woman told me I'm 'TINY' compared to her daughter it's all abit confusing!
I am expecting a big one though! I was 9lb8 , partner was 10lb and is 6ft 3 ... I've not really bought any newborn stuff !!

Your on the same week as me and my bump is literally massive. My mum who is normally very quiet about these kind of things said I really am worried they have the dates wrong...
I was quite big last time too but dd was only 7lb. I lost alot of water weight after her x
Good luck I think as long as you and bump are healthy doesn't matter what size you are- your perfect!

I had a massive bump - I was measuring about 2-3 weeks ahead on the chart. Turned out I had lots of fluid (it was unreal when my waters went!!) DS was 8.8 and perfect.

I wouldn't worry about your bump, you can't do anything about it and rude people will always make comments. It's good training for unsolicited comments about your parenting once the baby is here

Tiny bump - Small baby. Consistently measured 5-6 weeks 'behind'. She was 6lb14.

Nope, tiny bump, both babies were 8lb 8oz I think I have a long body, so plenty of space for them to stretch inside before the bump popped out!

In the nicest possible way, your bump is small. You are certainly not 'massive'.

This is me at 6 weeks.

As you can imagine, by 30 weeks with my second, I was the size of a house and people thought I was overdue with bloody twins.

He popped out at 32+6 weighing 4 lb so no, bump size had nothing to do with baby size in my case.

I'm consultant led due to my freakish pregnancies and they said I carry vast quantities of waters.

I'm 40+1 and from the very start everyone has commented how neat my bump is, even a mw looked at me at my 38wk appt and said 'there's no way you can be 38 wks.... But bump has measured bang on every week since 20 wks so some people obviously just carry differently. I'm a size 8/10 normally and have put on just over 2 stone.

Why do people think it's appropriate to comment?!! It used to drive me nuts....

The size of your bump has more to do with the position of the baby, fluid levels, your body shape etc. My bump was very sticky-out and people thought I was ready to imminently drop even though I was only 7 months. Was terrified I was going to give birth to a baby elephant. When DS finally arrived he was a very normal 7lb 10.

Small bump and small baby for me. I had been doing a lot of fitness classes so my stomach muscles were pretty strong and kept my bump in check.

You look smaller than me! (28 wks now) I was definately more sticky out than you, & have had a growth spurt in the last two wks so now look pretty big.

But its wierd. I'm carrying it all in front so 50% say I'm huge and 50% say Im "neat"!

Have realised I'm basically going to look like a torpedo by the end!

Ignore everyone except a midwife with a measuring tape who will tell you how you are measuring. I've been measuring spot on every time at my appointments, and I've had no end of 'ooh, is it twins, ooh you must be ready to pop' etc comments. Random people have no idea how big/small you are supposed to be. But they will comment!

I had a reletaviely small bump all upfront. DD was 8lb. A friend had a huge bump and her DD was just under 6Lb. It turned out most of the bup was water.

I looked ENORMOUS with my ds but I'm 5 foot so I guess in relation to my overall height and build it looked big on me. But when he was born he was 5lb so tiny.

Unless its a midwife measuring or a scan, it means nothing. And then it can be inaccurate!

I've been told I'm massive and so small I "should go to hospital" in the same day!!

My HCP often comment how average sized I am. My baby is scanning slightly on the big side, plenty of fluid. Body shape has a lot to do with it.

Even people who are or have been pregnant can't really comment as their main comparison is themselves! I know some eager girls who confuse constipation for bump (one also claimed to feel kicks at 6 weeks: when the embryo has no limbs). Likewise I know some with neat little bumps of see themselves as huge.

Only a mW or Dr who sees 1000s of pregnant women and has a measure can give an objective opinion.

I had a small tummy for my two eldest;
DS1 was born at 40 weeks exactly. He weighed 7lb 5oz
DD1 was born at 31 weeks. She weighed 3lb 6oz. Was very tiny and I was a little scared.

But with DTs, you could tell I was having twins;
DS2 and DD2 were born at 41 weeks. DS weighed 8lb 1oz and DD weighed 7lb 7oz.

Small neat bumps for both my girls, didn't show much until last few months. Dd1 weighed 8 10, dd2 weighed 8 15. I'm 5 foot 2 and everyone kept telling me that my babies would be small. They were wrong

Even Drs and midwives can get it wrong and scans can be inaccurate. I was told small babies maybe 7lb at the biggest... Mine have ranged from 8lb (predicted to be over 9lb) to 10lb 13 who rethought was small!

Small neat bumps and easy births, the midwives who delivered were always surprised at the size of my babies when born and I had massive placentas. I am 5 2 and generally a size ten when not preg, I just hid them well!

Youre bump isnt huge for 26 weeks!

The bump/baby correlation was true with me.

I was HUGE with DC1. I mean absolutely enormous. I was a size 10 pre pregnancy, tall and slim, but carried this huge, big bump that was massive at the front and sides. I looked full term by 30 weeks. Dc1 was a 10 lb-er.

DC2 I carried much smaller - like a beach ball stuck up my jumper - and she was 7lbs.
