Creative cover stories for not drinking at a friend's wedding please!

The I'm on antibiotics tale won't work as some of my friends are in the medical profession. I will only just be 7 weeks so wasn't planning on announcing to friends just yet but might have to if I don't come up with a decent excuse! Can't even say I'm driving as it's abroad!!

Why not just not drink? Order non alcoholic drinks and don't make a fuss?

Water infection? Could explain no alcohol and antibiotics cover if required!

Drink tonic and pretend it has vodka/gin in it.

Or say you are taking metronidazole for bacterial vaginosis. That should shut the nosy fuckers up.

Am I right in thinking that the antibiotics a dentist prescribes mean you cant have alcohol?

Just don't even mention it or make a fuss. I tried to cover it up on a hen do and was found out straight away! Order soft drinks and if anyone does ask (which they more than likely won't) say it's got a spirit in, or you're alternating between soft drinks and alcohol to pace yourself.

If you don't draw attention to it no one will even notice. If anyone buys you a drink, sneakily pass it on to someone else

Driving? Hangover? Detox? up early for....? I have used all of these and all work pretty well (apart from the detox one with close friends - they know me too well.)

You could safely pop a sachet of the otc cure in a glass of water as cover.

Buy drinks. Carry them round, leave them on a table... Don't drink them other than odd sip for effect. No-one will realise you Much better than a cover story.

Augmentinofor a gum infection that is improving so you can now eat fortunately. Chastise the medics for not realising how bad alcohol makes you feel on Augmentin if they challenge you!

Metronidazole is the one antibiotic you truly absolutely cannot drink on. It has an effect like Antabuse. Much violent vomiting if you even sniff booze while taking it. It's the only way to go if you have medic friends.

I managed to hide not-drinking-ness throughout my own birthday meal. Someone poured me a glass of wine, I drank the water next to it, and no-one noticed at all. If you can get DH to sip 'your' drink now and then to make it disappear then so much the better, but I bet no-one will notice even if he doesn't.

I found no one noticed when you don't drink and dont mention it but if you draw attention to not drinking people realise straight away...

If you're sitting together, pour yourself a glass of wine, and swap glasses every now and then. No one will notice.
You will notice. Drunk people are so boring when you're sober :)

I went to two weddings at 6 and 8 weeks pregnant, very close friends and no one noticed.

I just carried a glass around and then had soft drinks as well. For the toasts I asked the bar man discreetly for a half glass.

I managed to hide my not drinking through my own wedding reception (I wanted to remember it all) by drinking lime and soda in a wine glass. It's the same colour as white white so nobody knew except the barman!

I managed it at our wedding. I told nobody but one very close friend (and DH!), who ran interference and bought me non-alcoholic cocktails which look like the alcoholic version anyway.
This is despite the very best efforts of my BIL who kept insisting on wanting to buy me treble vodkas as "you have to get pissed at a wedding" so I made sure I always had a cocktail in my hand, and any drinks that got forced on me were either dispatched to my brother (never known to turn down a drink or question why I was giving him one!) or left discretely on a table somewhere.

Don't mention it for starters. Secondly carry a half glass of wine around. People probably won't notice you're not actually drinking it. Fizzy water with ice and lime looks like a gin/vodka and tonic.

Agree with everyone else, just don't mention it, the minute you say you aren't drinking (esp. if you are of child bearing age etc ) everyone will start guessing. Just pretend, 'lose' your glass of wine - even take the odd sip for the toast etc - it won't kill you. I didn't even know I was pregnant for the first 10 weeks and was drinking heavily normally. .

Carry around a wine glass a little over a third full. Full enough that you won't be offered a refill (or can decline) but empty enough that no-one notices it's constantly full.

I did 3 weddings in the first trimester and only got rumbled when DP took the pâté from my starter at one. I am also normally enjoy a good drink at a wedding.

I second all of the advice about not drawing attention to the fact you're not drinking and will add it's handy to make sure you always have a back up drink nearby in case anyone offers to get you a drink, so you can day you're double parked and don't forget to ask to get soft drinks in the smaller glasses they serve spirits and mixers in- carying around a pint of 'vodka and coke' will raise suspicion!

I had exactly the same last pregnancy, wedding in France at 6 weeks (3 day affair). I didn't use any cover stories just made sure I always had a glass of something and passed it to my DH to down occasionally. He was very drunk! I must admit I did have a glass of champagne. At my MIL wedding a fortnight later a glass of sparkling elderflower looks remarkably like champers.
