Gender confirmation at scan - what did you actually SEE?

Can you describe, please?

I wasn't planning on finding out and really wanted the surprise but we're having a huge problem with this pregnancy and constant scanning and I think I accidentally saw something 'genital' today.

I was quite surprised it looked like it did, not what I was expecting, but still I was quite convinced I knew what I was looking at - I've seen a lot of babies' front bum areas of both kinds! Asked DH when we got home and he said he thought the same as me.

I don't want to say what I thought, I want you to tell me what you saw and what gender you were told so I can work out if I'm right or wrong or so I can get a grip of myself because I'm clearly not a trained eye and how the hell should I know?!

It's quite difficult to the untrained eye.

They look for 2 lines, or 3 lines. I'm sure you saw something else.

DD had 2 little white lines, like an 'equals' sign.
Boys had 2 dots and a line I think. The bits were very bright white on our scans.

Sonographer described my girl as looking like a hamburger down there gives you a rough if not very odd idea.

I saw boy bits and I mean full on testicles, but I think my boy is a little bit like his dad and a bit of a exhibitionist that was at 14 weeks he was just laying in there legs akimbo so you could see the ball sack shape.

Well, I saw a very definite penis and testicles at a 38 week scan. Unmistakable, they were. I even pointed them out on the screen in case the sonographer had missed them.

Grace was born 3 weeks later.................

Yep, like Boudica above, full on unmistakable scrotum and willy. Absolutley no denying it.

I had a private scan at 16 weeks and baby was being very uncooperative so the sonographer took his time and got me to go for a walk and come back.
As soon as he started scanning I knew it was a girl. I'd been looking at pics online and saw the 'hamburger' shape they say is a girl.
After about 40 minutes he (and a senior sonographer) confirmed girl too once she'd stopped being awkward and let us look

I had my first scan at 19 weeks. In a manner that his rugby playing father would be proud of, DS basically did the equivalent of dropping his pants and mooning at us.

Very obvious testicles and penis! Clear as day. I will be gobsmacked if this baby is a girl.

Obvious scrotum and penis at 20 weeks that required no studying or explanation. Obvious vulva at 20 weeks on both girls.

I was able to prepare for appropriate gender from 20 weeks with certainty.

Not all scans are quite so obvious though.

At twenty wk scan I couldn't tell, pornographer said girl. We paid for a private scan at 28 wks? And she showed us and it was def girl, I agree with hamburger commmet and it was very different from ds4 where we saw at 20 wks he was def a boy.

I saw a shade that very much resembled the drawings you see of the penis and two testicles. (you know, toilet type) Very, very clear.
That was when the technician moved from one leg to the other.

I then asked her if she could tell the sex and she did.

That was 20 weeks.

On ds1's scan the first veiw the scanner got of him was his bum with legs up and very visible testicles and a willy. There really was no mistaking it and she laughed and said it was a good job we wanted to know what sex he was as we couldn't have missed it.

Just because I do on all of these threads I'm going to point out that what you are identifying is the sex of the baby, not the gender.

We had our anomaly scan yesterday, and they checking the sex too - a little boy and you could see both his willy and his balls, really clearly. They were massive!

I had 2 (not gender scans but scans where you can see the genitals so I asked!):
20 weeks, couldn't have told it was a girl without the input of the sonographer.
28 weeks, basically you could see 2 labia and a 'gap' with no penis or anything, more clearly a girl.

20 weeks nothing, baby was bent over, legs crossed!

28 weeks, legs akimbo very clear balls and penis.

Sonographer said shed bet her job on it being a boy! It was very obvious to me and I'm generally clueless at interpreting scans.

First one sonographer accidentally started refering to baby as she .
Second one was legs out and shaking her bits for us as the image came up. Sonographer said 'umm did you want to know gender?' bit late really. It was super clear at 20 weeks BUT during the same scan there was a depth of the scan that briefly made it look as though there was something 'else' then it was gone again. So I do advise
