Ok, I've been looking for some chilled out/ambient/relaxing music to play when I'm giving birth.

What's your favourite one?

Is this your first child???????

I just made a playlist of all my favourite music (mostly 90s punk rock, probably not the calming ambient tunes you're after) . I can't for the life of me remember what was playing during the pushing stage, I'm not even sure who was in the room.
It was great for the early parts of labour though.

I was thinking more for the early stage of labour when I'm still with it...

I had some relaxing orchestral music and my contractions strengthened and weakened along with the music, however when the choral section cut in and became loud and fast, I screamed as my contractions followed the change in tempo and intensity. There was no music after that!

I am putting together a playlist with a lot of our wedding music on it- Elbow One day like this, snow patrol chasing cars, all i ask of you- phantom.. hello, that is like 15 mins- better get some more or else put them on repeat :)

DH did a playlist for both of my labours - gave him something to do and calmed him down! But there are about 3 songs I remember playing, and when I hear them now it's lovely. Quiet and repetitive songs were the best.

Although one of them was 'Hopipola' (much used for moments of triumph in documentaries) - it came on when I was about 5cm with DS and I vividly remember saying through gritted teeth 'Don't you think it's a bit premature for THIS ONE???'

I was discussing with my OH about music to give birth to. We mainly listen to heavy metal and rock and wondered how it would go down with the midwife lol

My natal hypnotherapy cd's came with a birth music CD, its plinky plonky spa music, you can probably get a playlist off spotify or youtube.

I think it's somewhat condescending to scoff at a first-time parent for their preferences during labour, especially something as common as selecting what music to have on.

I'm really enjoying relaxing/meditating to contemporary piano instrumentals at the moment. My favourite album of this ilk is Solo Piano II by Chilly Gonzalez.

South I can't stand classical (for various reasons connected with a vile drama skool childhood) and feel much more relaxed with rock, metal and indie. Still considering what to do.

They had Classic FM playing in the room when I was in labour with DS1. I remember it being very odd when the music from Schindler's List came on....

I think probably what you are looking for is music for early labour rather than the actual birth bit. I remember looking for my ipod with DS (DC3) in the early stages (didn't find the damn thing). I was after something to give me a vague sense of time without the distraction of timing contractions (which personally I find very unhelpful to my labour). Think the playlist had stuff like Norah Jones, Jason Mraz and Andy Burrows on it.

I listened to the music from my Daisy Birthing class. It helped so much to get me into a relaxed frame of mind. I think I alternated that with music off my hypnobirthing CD. I agree with whoever said spa music. I couldn't cope with anything with much of a tune.

Apologises, I read it as "when I give birth"....I pictured crowning whilst crooning. no offence intended.

Yeah, I would agree that by crowning I couldn't give a stuff that the playlist wasn't on.

Slightly different (and this may out me in RL) but we had a planned-ish c-section as DD was severely growth restricted and I had pre-eclampsia so I complied a playlist which DH duly put together onto CD.

The first track, at my request, was 'The First Cut is the Deepest' by Rod Stewart... just as the doctor was cutting me open.

DD was actually born to 'Defying Gravity' from Wicked. Very apt after what she and I had been through!

I had the radio on during most of my labour but can only clearly remember one song.....Roar by Katy Perry pretty apt really.....

I had a playlist for early labour at home (didn't listen in hospital) which included just my favourite songs. Was a bit ranty when take that, patience came on .

I had calm classical stuff on in the next room (at home) - Bach cello concertos etc. It was the things I'd listened to while pregnant when I was stressed on my commute to calm me down so it was quite nice. I stopped noticing it after a while but I think the playlist just looped for the whole 9 or so hours.

David Attenborough docos we're good in the early stage as well before contractions got regular - he has a very calm voice! (Although I was in latent labour for 6 days so quite a lot of time to kill)
