hana · 30/08/2006 17:18

with first was lucky to stop work at about 32 weeks because of summer holidays ( am teacher) baby due early sept

second stopped at 37 weeks but was working part time
third was about 28 weeks because of summer holidays again and it's been the best for obvious reasons! baby due in 5 weeks

misspopov · 30/08/2006 17:25

I am a primary teacher and left work at 37 weeks for both DDs and they were both born at 38 weeks! So I only had about a week off before each of them. I found it a strain working to 38 weeks but the kids were great and so were my colleagues who covered my playtime duties for the last half term. (they wouldn't let me set foot outside) I chose to do this so that I could have more time afterwards. On both occasions I was able to return to work just before a holiday so benefitted in the end.

38 weeks with the first, 39 with the second (I think) think it will be about 30 weeks with the third but only to fit in with a change in contract I am however about to cut my hours down to about 45 a week so that will be nice. (I am so cross with my employers since they have decided to change our contracts, they knew about this when I discussed my mat. leave with them and didn't say anything). My understanding it that most people go as late as possible inorder to maximise paid time off with their baby

LieselVonTrapp · 31/08/2006 08:38

6 Days before. But she was early.

TheBlonde · 31/08/2006 08:43

36 weeks I think
Baby was 12 days late

redz · 31/08/2006 11:00

Just worked my last day on saturday gone, 37 weeks. However Im really bored! But am very tired so its for the best just waiting for my arrival now.

MadamePlatypus · 03/09/2006 19:23

38 weeks with DS - arrived at 42 weeks. First 2 weeks of maternity leave great, but I was so, so bored for the last 2 weeks. This time I am stopping paid work at 36 weeks. This is partly because there is much less pressure for me to return to work (last time I knew I would only be able to afford 6 month's mat leave), and partly because my weekends and non-working days are pretty much full up looking after DS, so I will need those extra days off work to get organised for no 2.

I think LeBe there may be a correlation between people who can afford to spend maternity leave in baby shops and people who can afford to leave work at 30 weeks... (Although obviously a bigger influence on when you leave work is what kind of work you do).

aprilmeadow · 03/09/2006 19:35

finished at 36wks with ds and he was born at 40+6. This time (not due til May) will work until as late as possible.

mumfor1standfinaltime · 03/09/2006 19:40

36 weeks, and couldn't wait as I was huge! I put on 4 stone and had had enough by then!
Had ds day before he was due.

1Baby1Bump · 03/09/2006 19:42

37 wKs.
am v larg"!
(Ds brok kypad- sorry"!)

millysimmons · 03/09/2006 19:56

Gor blimey, I must be a right wimp!!! I left at 24 weeks....think thats the earliest on here yet!! That was because I took my 5 weeks holiday leave before startng maternity leave. Also have no intention of going back ( hush hush!!)(grin)So that means I dont need to make sure I have enough weeks the othe side. Have also been very poorly though so if wasnt on leave think would have been signed off sick.
Have been little bored at times but have also so forgetton about work.........now focused on becoming mum.

pedilia · 03/09/2006 19:57

38 weeks with DS1, wasn'y working with DS2 and am planning 38 weeeks with Dc3

MuddyMum · 03/09/2006 20:04

Gave up work at 39 wks + 2 days. DS arrived 5 days later. No time to put my feet up - should have stopped at least at 38 wks!

WestCountryLass · 03/09/2006 21:12

I worked til 34 weeks. Went home from work one day and had DS the following evening so never went back!

Linnet · 03/09/2006 21:17

With dd1 I finished work at 33 weeks to have a two week holiday and then my maternity leave started at 35 weeks, dd1 arrived 10 days late and this was back in the day when you only got 12 weeks leave , so had to go back to work when she was still tiny.

With dd2 I planned it much better, I worked right up until I was 38 weeks. She was 1 week late so there wasn't too much hanging about to be done.

Toothyboy · 03/09/2006 21:23

With Ds1 I stopped FT work at 36 weeks and he ended up being 1.5 wks late so had almost 6 weeks wasted!

With Ds2 I stopped PT (3 days) work at 38 weeks, thinking "well he'll be late as well"; he was delivered at 38+5 due to IUGR!

eidsvold · 03/09/2006 22:37

dd1 - 36 weeks - just in time for summer holidays

dd2 - 18 weeks but we were emigrating to Aus - probably would have gone until about the 36 week or so mark.

rbj949703 · 03/09/2006 23:18

DD1 - 34 wks, born 42wks
DS - 36 wks, born 41wks
DD2 - 39 wks, born 40 wks

34 weeks which has turned out to be just right!

pudgygiraffe · 04/09/2006 00:21

DS1 stopped at 36 wks, he was born 39+6
DS2 stopped at 31 wks just before Christmas (had taken Voluntary redundancy) but was tad bored towrds the end, he was born 40 wks bang on.
Currently at 36 wks with Baby3, am giving up in 2 wks time. Can feel myself get bigger daily. Have one skirt for work left that fits, hoping it sees me to the end, otherwise I am into v. un-chic tent dress.

jabberwocky · 04/09/2006 01:10

Megglevache, holy cow! You are the woman

39 weeks for me, will be 38 this time because c-section will be the Monday after I stop work on Friday.

angelhunter · 04/09/2006 02:36

I stopped at 38 weeks, my work mates thought I was mad but it worked for me. Delivered at 40 weeks, bang on the due date.

threebob · 04/09/2006 03:35

17 weeks - but pregnancy was nothing to do with my decision.
