35 weeks because I was so tired, but then I discovered I was a bit low in iron started taking spatone supplements and was bored rigid for the remaining 6 1/2 weeks ( DS was overdue).

IMHO 36 weeks is about right, if you are feeling really tired then get your mw to check your iron levels. Or another thing I did was take Wednesday as annual leave for the last few weeks, which helped me enormously to get through the week. It means you can stay at work for longer but keep the majority of your mat eave entitlement.

Thanks again guys for all the replies. Unfortunatly I have no holiday left so i cant use that as an option also i have had my bloods taken last week but have to wait till this evening to see if my iron levels are low!?

First pregnancy 40 weeeks, born 42 weeks.
Second pregnancy 38 weeks, born 38 1/2 weeks.

I much prefer my time off after the baby is born.

jabberwocky · 04/09/2006 12:55

Megglevache, I am so naive, sometimes...

expatinscotland · 04/09/2006 12:58

DD2 - 38 weeks, on order from my boss. I had planned to work until 6 days before due date.

She was born at 38 weeks + 3 days.

Uwila · 04/09/2006 13:33

What do you mean "on order from your boss"? He/she can't do that (unless there was a valid medical reason).

expatinscotland · 04/09/2006 14:12

There was a very valid reason, Uwila. My bp was sky high and my iron levels in the toilet.

Sandcastles · 04/09/2006 14:17

I was due to go at 36 weeks, but got admitted 3 days before leaving date as had pre-eclampsia.

Remember thinking at the time that I should have finished sooner, and that next time I would, deffinitly. But that could have been due to then extra pressure my body was under with the PE.

Loulou000 · 04/09/2006 16:58

I'm going off at 34 weeks (at 24 now). Seems a bit on the early side, but I'm tired and we get very good maternity benefits so I don't have to rush back until after a year.

BadHair · 04/09/2006 17:12

38 weeks both times. Would have been bored stiff sitting at home for any longer, although did move house when ds2 was 38 weeks so could perhaps have done with a bit longer.
If you're fit and healthy there's no real reason to finish work any earlier - you might as well have more time off after the baby is born.

Sredni · 04/09/2006 19:29

I'm really hating my job at the moment - I'm only 21 weeks, but I've been having little daydreams about leaving at 29 and that still seems too far away.

I'll probably end up working til the christmas break, which will be just after 36 weeks, and then come back for one day afterwards (beginning of week 39) as the christmas break doesn't come out of our holiday entitlement so I'm not going to miss having it if I can avoid it. Plus this is a big old rich firm and we only get statutory (insert fuming and cursing emoticon here).

kid · 04/09/2006 19:35

I left at 34 weeks when I was working full-time and 35 weeks when I was working part-time. I had intended to work later but was signed off early both times by the Dr.

Cailyn3 · 04/09/2006 19:40

32 weeks with ds1, born at 41 weeks. Was totally desperate to start maternity leave then as I was given the most boring jobs to do as I couldn't carry anything or bend in the middle (much to the other engineers laughter!) Worked till 39 weeks with ds2, born at 41 - had only just started working as a childminder 8 weeks beforehand with ds2 and didn't want to scare off my first set of children! Also started working again six weeks after ds2 was born....currently expecting to work until about 38 weeks with this pg. Probably take the same time off afterwards too

Alexandersmummy · 04/09/2006 20:28

I thought i could be superwoman and work till 38 wks but it very nearly killed me, I left at 37 wks in the end and now wish I'd gone sooner, I think it depends on what job you have and how you feel, I was on my feet for 8 hours a day in a hot, small, confined workplace in the height of summer and it got too much. Let your body tell you when to go.

bananaloaf · 04/09/2006 20:31

35weeks with both. used 2 weeks of AL and 3 weeks maty

hulababy · 04/09/2006 20:32

I left work at 35 weeks, although maternity leave started at 36 weeks. The week prior was half term.

shedevil · 04/09/2006 21:04

Left work at 38 weeks, DS born at 39 weeks (elective c-section as was breech). People still can't believe I worked for so long (and nor can I what the hell was I doing?!?!?!)

riab · 04/09/2006 21:08

I was going to work to 38 weeks but fainted 3 times at work - so decided to leave at 34 weeks - bloody lucky as baby arrived at 37+1 weeks!

superblue · 04/09/2006 21:51

I left at 36 weeks - had planned to work until 37 weeks but developed high blood pressure and the midwifes strongly recommended I finished - and I am very glad I did as I didn't realise how tired I was working full-time until I finished.

Flossam · 04/09/2006 21:58

I left at 35 weeks I think last time - due to pressures of moving house and 12.5 hr shifts in London. I think if there is a next time I might go a little earlier, depending on any new government legislation and how we are set. Will still be working long days + toddler on days off = tiring!

mummy23 · 04/09/2006 23:42

Ds1 i worked up until i was 36 weeks, would have worked longer but company told me i had to leave 4 weeks before edd.
Ds2 worked until 37 weeks then had a week holiday before starting my mat leave!
Found it harder 2nd time round though, but needed the money so worked as long as possible!

carol3 · 05/09/2006 00:20

1 st 39 weeks - 7 days late
2 nd day before due date - 8 days late
3 rd 39 weeks - 8 days late.
Wanted more time off afterwards so worked as long as posssible. Glad i was late though

nappyaddict · 05/09/2006 01:32

finished work at 31 weeks. i was a waitress so working 7 - 8 hours shifts late at night with no break, but i continued going to college 5 days a week until the day i went into labour at 38 weeks. luckily it was the day of my last A - level - talk about cutting it fine lol.

mymama · 05/09/2006 12:48

dd 39 weeks - came 5 days early so had her two days after finishing.

ds1 39 weeks - he was two weeks late.

ds2 - wasn't working - luckily as he was 3/12 weeks early and on past history I would not have finished yet.
