Any stories about how your waters broke?

At 29weeks pg with #1, I'm constantly being told stories about labour etc. the other day my friend told me about how her daughter's water's broke in asda whilst wearing a pair of white trousers. When I asked what she did, she tied her coat around her waist, stepped over it and calmly left without telling anyone there was a pool of amniotic fluid on the floor!

Does anyone else have any stories?

After five hours of having a little trickle every time I stood up, I finally wondered if my waters had gone rather than just assuming my bladder control had. And I paid for expensive NCT classes

Sorry no stories. But mine went at hospital thankfully. There was so so much more water than I had expected. If my waters had broken in ASDA I would have needed help to get me out and wouldn't have sat in the car as would have been completely soaked.

24 hours of contractions at home and my waters broke in a big gush the instant I got to my room in the birthing centre.

I had terribly stinky feet when I was pregnant so I took off my shoes and socks around 9pm and walked to the bathroom to wash them. What I didn't know was there a sleepy wasp on my bedroom floor..... I stood near it it stung my toe!!

My waters went and I went to the maternity unit but contractions didn't start for 3 days!

My first I was well into my labour, I had already been sent home from the hospital after being told my "waters were bulging", and was standing in the bathroom loudly complaining about how much pain I was in. They broke with the stereotypical splash all over the floor.

The second I was at home in bed on my laptop, reading Mumsnet funnily enough. For the previous 24 hours or so I'd had these regular twinges, but having so many braxton hicks in the last few weeks didn't seem to realise I was in early labour.

It was a 'pop' feeling that I thought was a strong baby kick. I remained in bed for a while, then got up to use the toilet. Water leaked down my legs, and I had THE worst contraction ever. The baby was born about 40 mins later.

Got out of bed and wham bam gush!!! It was like the rivers of Babylon!!!! I had to go to hospital with a big maternity pad on and sit on a towel in car! When I got out of the car at hosp I had another gush!!!!!!!!!!

Mine didn't until I was well into labour. Apparently under a quarter of women or something actually have them break before labour (someone somewhere probably has the proper stat... Mine is a dim memory from antenatal classes).

Mine went at home, was sat on sofa on a towel as very overdue! Felt a "pop" - sent dh to get more towels and when I stood up had quite a spectacular gush! Fortunately we had a leather sofa and hard floors

In the cinema, I got up to go to the loo, felt a pop and flooded the seat, luckily I was wearing dark jeans. DH was not happy I soaked the car seat on the way home either.
A few months later I read an article about disgusting things people had seen in the cinema and one story was from a woman who had sat down and her seat was all wet - oops!

I expected a gush too but didn't even notice my waters slowly going. I slowly lost my waters over 2 weeks and had no idea! I was pregnant with twins and at a routine scan at 34 weeks twin 1 had no fluid at all. I delivered them the next day.

Most go during labour.

Mine went in bed at night, I sat up thinking I had to go to the loo and then legged it there, they sort of went just as I got there, so not all over my bed thankfully!

Contractions started about 10 minutes later and DD was born around 30 hours later at home!

First time they were broken, second time they broke when DS unexpectedly crowned. I wasn't even pushing, so it was a bit of a shock.

Mine broke at 39+5 as I was getting into bed. Felt a sort of internal click and then there was a huuuuge gush. I stood in the shower for about an hour after that; contractions started immediately and baby arrived about 15 hours later.

If contractions start soon after it happens, labour will be fast and furious! So wasn't prepared for that.

Well not necessarily always super fast but the contractions feel very intense because the cushioning effect of the bag of waters is gone.

I was in bed having a siesta, woke up, and something compelled me to go to the bathroom and fast. Fortunately bathroom next door to bedroom. Sat on the toilet and waters went! Remember shouting to dp, my waters had gone. Don't be silly was the reply, you're just having a big wee! I did manage to convince him it was my waters (I was 36+6 according to hospital dates, further on we thought). I got dp to get my notes to ring the hospital. Dp needed the toilet, and I vividly remember standing in the bath with just my top half on laughing hysterically. Labour not great, but dd arrived 47 hours after my waters broke

I went in to see the consultant, day after due date, gave me a sweep, then at home after a sleep i woke up needing the loo and gush away they went. 40hrs later, i was induced as no progress and the midwife broke my forewaters after 10 hrs of induction (only hind ones went at home) baby was born another 18hrs later!

Mine went in local village shop! Thankfully not a massive gush, and i had dark trousers on so only i was wet. My MIL was with me and when i whispered to her what had happened she got all flustered and was hopping around in a flap .

Labour started about 7 hours later. DS1 born about 8 hours later.

With DS2 the waters had to be broken and he was born within 2 minutes.

I left work early to have CVS as DS was feet first at 38 weeks, but he wasn't for budging, so was booked in for a section the following week. That night I started in Labour, got to the hospital and they decided to give me something to stop it. Whilst lying in a bed waiting for the midwife to come back, there was an odd sensation and seconds later I could here running water as my waters ran off the end of the bed. I really wasn't expecting there to be so much! If they had gone at work I'd have never gone back! Anyway they decided he wanted to make an appearance and there was no stopping him, so he arrived by emergency section an hour later.

I was booked in for an elective section on ds2 and went into hospital the night before. I was due to go up to theatre at 9am but woke around 4am with a lot of discomfort so decided to get up and go to the toilet. When I stood out of the bed I felt a gush of water and flooded the floor. I ended up mopping it all up with paper towels before calling the midwife because I was so embarrassed at making a mess (I know, what did I think happened on a maternity ward lol) . I had my section as scheduled and he was born at 9.42 am :)

Guys, would it be about overkill to put plastic sheeting under my bedding to protect the mattress?

Both times my waters have gone when labour was established after wing induced. Both times they went on the toilet. Both times I didn't realise I had just gone for a wee, then thought u did a double wee. Both times I was told off by the midwife

Mine went with a loud pop on the toilet. there was a bit of blood. I yelled loudly "I think we need to get an ambulance now" My mum got me to lie down in my bed and have a nap in between contractions.

Dh and I had been out for a nice meal to celebrate my due date. Came home and had been giggling about stuff in bed. Rolled over and said good night. Suddenly a popping sensation and a major gush. There was no mistaking it. Told dh my waters had just gone who thought I was messing about. Eventually got him to get me a large towel folded into quarters to stand on as they kept on going. Tried to put maternity pads on but they were useless as so much kept on coming. Labour started about 2.5 hours later and then baby born 3.5 hours after that so 6 hours in total.
