Any stories about how your waters broke?

At 29weeks pg with #1, I'm constantly being told stories about labour etc. the other day my friend told me about how her daughter's water's broke in asda whilst wearing a pair of white trousers. When I asked what she did, she tied her coat around her waist, stepped over it and calmly left without telling anyone there was a pool of amniotic fluid on the floor!

Does anyone else have any stories?

I was about 3/4 of the way through labour, led on the bed in my pjs, lovely fluffy white dressing gown on my white duvet...

Had a contraction and 'pop' off they went.. Full on water, blood and meconium came flooding out all over my lovely dressing gown, duvet set Confused my DH was up cleaning it all when he got home from the hospital in the early hours of the morning Grin

On the high street in a local town Blush I had to drive home, my car was never the same again.

woke up with big contraction, thought 'another BH, oh well' and went back to sleep. Woke up 30 mins later to another one and then felt a pinging sensation, followed by a realisation that waters had gone. Had been sleeping on waterproof mat luckily and had an old towel by the bed (must have known!) so shoved that between my legs and went to the bathroom. Waters had slight meconium so into hospital. Very slow labour that never really got going and was sped up by induction as they were worried by infection, still never really contracted in a regular way Hmm DS was back to back so no waters meant agony. I shall save the rest of my birth story as it wasn't pleasant though DS was fine Grin

First time DTS1's waters went spectacularly as I was getting out of the car to go for a curry. Luckily it was dark!
DD1's waters went 30 mins before she was born, after a long and painful induction. After that I went from 4cm to 10cm in 15 minutes!
DD2's waters went when I rolled over in bed at 40+5. I waddled down the landing with it running down my leg, and then yelled for DH.

Mine broke at 40+1 with my first contraction. I was on my sofa and felt a pop then managed to waddle to the loo! Somehow I clenched and waddled and it didn't go all over the floor, but there was a big old gush when I got to the loo. Baby was born 20 mins later in the hall Grin

Had continuous contractions all eve at home so went into hospital at midnight. Waters broke spectacularly as I was signing the admissions form in the reception - soaked the old leather chair there - was v embarrassed but the administrator was so kind and friendly about it "straight to delivery ward with you my dear" Smile ds born 7 hrs later.

Ds1 and dd waters had to be broken. With ds2 the midwife was examining me while saying I wasn't in labour cos the contractions weren't evenly spaced. My waters then exploded in her face very quickly followed by ds2

With dd2 I was laughing with my teenage ds and his group of friends in the hallway when they went spectacularly. Suffice to say the group of lads couldn't wait to get out and I hid myself in the downstairs loo.

DS1 - I got off the bed thinking I suddenly needed the toilet and gushed all over the floorboards.

DS2 - it was our wedding anniversary and DH had gone to get a carry out curry. We were joking as a curry is one of the things that is meant to bring on labour. My waters broke before he had even got home, and I never got to eat the curry, but it certainly worked!

With DD I woke up feeling a bit sick but thought nothing of it and went back to bed. woke up with a huge urge to wee, that was my waters, contractions started couple hours later.

DS I was up with awful heartburn, DP had just gotten me a glass of milk and after I had finished and went to lie back down they went all over the bed, it did have blood in which concerned me but apparently normal. then DO started flapping...Grin

Was at 37+5, still working and had my promotion board that day at work, prepped for weeks etc. had a nice early morning shower, sat on DH's side of the bed to put socks on and the amniotic version of niagra falls descended over the duvet and onto the wooden floor. Conversation went as follows to dh still half asleep.
Me: dh, I think my waters have just gone or I've wet myself, but there's loads.
Dh:: mummble, what, (lifts head up) oh my god, (flops head back down)
Dh: shit, it's on my side of the bed, get up, get up now
Me: (holding sides laughing, causing more gushing)
Dh: get up, get up, I've got to clean it up and mores coming out, stop it!!!!!!
I proper chuckled for ages. Couldn't do my promotion though. Bugger.

i was 2 weeks overdue, had been in labour for a couple of hours, and i couldn't find anywhere comfortable to sit/lie and i just thought lets sit on the loo... so i did.... and whoosh. it was a huge feeling of release, and i puked at the same time. luckily the bath is next to the loo so i puked into the bath. i then went straight to the hospital, and dd was born a couple of hours later.

I was overdue I just
Couldn't sleep, it was summer and I would wait
Till DP got up at 5am to go to work before opening the window and trying to go to sleep. On one morning I was led there waiting for his alarm to go off I was feeling strange feelings in my tummy every few minutes (didn't think anything of it duh!!) he got up and I stood up on the bed to open the window and my waters broke all over the bed wasn't much fun going into labour with no sleep!

Mine went in the birthing pool, they'd been bulging since I arrived at the hospital and they were talking about getting me out and breaking them. Next thing I felt an enormous pop and DS was born about 30 mins later. The sheer relief of the pressure being lessened was amazing.

You can get mats in boots for putting under your sheets, though I ended up using them as disposable changing mats.

I was driving dh home from work, we both heard a pop and I joked about it being my waters! When I got out of the car on the drive they poured out! Contractions started about an hour later, but dd didn't come for another 38 hours and even then she didn't want to come out, had assisted delivery.

I'd been in early labour about 19 hours and had just been sent home by hospital. I was leaned up against the sofa during a contraction, trying my hardest to watch the new episodes of red dwarf. The I heard a little pop and totted off to the bathroom with a clear trail of water following me.

I still haven't seen the new episode, they fill me the rage of a labouring woman to this day.

mine never went DD was born in the sac bobbing around in the back of the ambulance. Best bit was ambulances have video recordings so they gave me the copy unfortunatly DP and my Ddads workmates also got to see it- Blush Blush would have prefered my waters broke and I went to hosp like normal people at full term Grin I was shocked at the amount of liquid and suggested they break the sac as we went up hill so that the water drained out pf the ambulanceHmm Confused

Mine went as I was laying on the sofa, a week before due date. I was half asleep and suddenly woke with a start thinking- oh no I've wet myself! I legged it to the toilet, sat down and it just kept coming and coming. Finally I twigged that it was probably my waters. We then had to go to hospital to have it checked, and it was just like constantly wetting myself, I was always aware of it, it was awful! Had to sit on towels and the maternity pads did absolutely nothing to stem the flow. Luckily DD was born 12 hours later.

blindkitty I don't think plastic sheeting would be overkill. We had a waterproof mat for the cot & we just put that on our bed on my side. Both times my waters have gone with a 'pop' when I have been lying in bed waiting to see if the twinges will go away! No gush though, but trickles when I stood up.

I got up off of the sofa at 11.30pm to go for a shower before bed and pop my waters went. My contractions started about half an hour later and then labour continued from there. DS was born 12 hours after my waters went.

Dh and I had been out for a nice meal to celebrate my due date. Came home and had been giggling about stuff in bed. Rolled over and said good night. Suddenly a popping sensation and a major gush. There was no mistaking it. Told dh my waters had just gone who thought I was messing about. Eventually got him to get me a large towel folded into quarters to stand on as they kept on going. Tried to put maternity pads on but they were useless as so much kept on coming. Labour started about 2.5 hours later and then baby born 3.5 hours after that so 6 hours in total.

Mine went with a loud pop on the toilet. there was a bit of blood. I yelled loudly "I think we need to get an ambulance now" My mum got me to lie down in my bed and have a nap in between contractions.

Sorry cosmos but did have to giggle a bit at that!

Guys, would it be about overkill to put plastic sheeting under my bedding to protect the mattress?
