how long did a sweep take to work for you if it did?

so as some of you know i had a sweep yesterday lunchtime had blood come away but sadly nothings happened guess its failed feeling pretty certain its not worked and now wont be given another untill monday 4th november which makes me overdue currently 39+5 today

They don't always work Hun,I had 1 at 39+6 then at 40+6, neither worked. I'm fully effaced, 1cm dilated. Lost plug, had bloody show, and all other signs n still no baby :( being induced on sun. Sometimes they just don't wanna come xx

hi mrs yes i know they are not allways going to work i had one with my first it did work worst thing is my cervix was favourable yet this baby dont want to budge im also 2cm dilated midwife said my cervix was low baby was low etc but argh this waiting is enough to drive someone crazy isent it lol ive gone overdue in both pregnancys before was hoping it wouldnt happen again just driving me crazy lets hope your baby gets a move on for you soon MrsMuskett good luck hun xx

oh no that sucks ilovesprouts went to 41 weeks in my last pregnancy so think its looking likely thats going to happen again

Princess I was told they are most effective 48 hrs apart. I had one on weds am and another at 2pm fri. Contractions in full flow by 4pm and baby born at 10.30pm. Good luck!

Ps I was 40+4 with my 2nd having had my first at 40+2 without a sweep so I may have gone into labour that day anyway without the sweep. No way if knowing.

My second one was followed by my waters breaking several hours later.

I think the first one got it all ready, and the second one kicked it off. That and another long walk up a hill.

Sweep with 2nd dd at 40+2 in the morning about 11am. born next morning at 5am. x

Is it something to do with our hormones that make us soo impatient at this point of pregnancy???

MW unable to do my sweep when 40+2 and now I go onto fb to find someone that was a couple wks behind me has given birth this morning, I am now 40+5 and really fed up, got MW again on Monday and I assume I will be booked for induction on next Thursday as here they induce at +12 days.

AAAAAAAAHHHHHHHHHH the waiting is so annoying.
MIL broke the news to me last night that all 4 of hers were overdue and I am already aware I was 2 wks over :( baby just following parents example!!

Can you request a sweep and if so at which point? Or is it left to midwives to decide and if so when would they normally do this please?

It's different in different areas, they don't do it before 40wks in my area but as you can see above loads of people get them earlier.
Just ask your MW

purple, I think so. I'm so bloody grumpy since my due date passed and every day is a huge chore. Every night we go to bed wondering and wake in the morning having slept all night!! I went 2 days overdue with dd2 but this time feels so much longer. Dh is getting as frustrated as me:-\

Freckles, I know we go to bed every night just hoping this is the night or tomorrow will be the day.
We keep saying that it doesn't matter how long labour goes on for, we just want it to start so we know there is an end in sight.....

I know! I haven't even had any signs tbough really this week either. :-( I feel weird in that sometimes I Will forget I'm even pregnant and what is to come. other times I feel totally unprepRed and then I'm like he should be here by now!

Sweep worked within hours with dc1 but was 6 days over due and 3cm dilated at the time. With dc2 first sweep at 40+6 failed so i went to drop in the day after and asked for another and had had him hy early next morn. I jst really wanted to avoid induction and glad it worked for me!

I thought it was a strange phenomenon that I was experiencing, when sometimes I don't even feel pregnant but glad it's not just me!!

keep walking into the nursery and telling baby I want it to be in the moses basket and not in my belly anymore, but it doesn't seem to be listening to me........already.

hiya Poppy954 i wish mine was being re done sooner still nothing as yet just lots of thick brown and red/pink discharge tmi sorry!

midwife said it will be after the weekend now if nothing with this one sighs

Princess- I had a sweep today 39+5 hopefully it goes somewhere!

Midwife said I was 2-3cm dilated did your midwife tell you how favourable your cervix was?

Praying mines works x

hiya green she said it was favourable she said it was easy to do so guess thats positive also she said it was low lets hope these babies show for us soon :) x

Hi there. I met a consultant today who said if it's going to work, it happens within 48hours. Did the MW give you any indication of how ripe your cervix is? I've had a total of 5 sweeps in my previous 2 pregnancies and none worked because my cervix wasn't even considering labour. This time I'm waiting until 41+3 until I have a sweep in the hope that my body will naturally be preparing for labour by then anyway. Good luck.

I had a sweep at 37+6 (was already 3cms dilated apparently) at 9am, waters broke at 11am. DS arrived at 4pm.
