I ate mouldy philadelphia yesterday, now worried about Listeria

I spread some Philadelphia on my sandwich yesterday. All tasted fine, anyway went to make my sons packed lunch later on in the evening, pulled back the rest of the foil and realised at the back on the top of the cheese there was mould growing. I'm now petrified about listeria. I'm 33 weeks pregnant.

Dh told me I'm panicking too much, and its rare to get it but what should I do? I don't think I ate any of the mould. I'm sure I would have noticed but bloody hell...Do I tell my midwife, can I get a test done to check. I'm usually so careful about everything. I know symptoms can be very mild Flu like symptoms for us but can be awful for baby..I'm so cross with myself. Please help before I go insane. I have not been sick or ill

I'm no expert but I think either there is listeria or there isn't - it won't suddenly be present because there's mould on the food.

Ok, a quick read of the Wiki article reveals that Listeria can grow in refrigerator temperatures- so if that pot of Plilly had Listeria you all would have got it already! It's not there just because there's mould. Also, it's incredibly unlikely that it would have it in the first place as the cheese would have been pasteurised.

I wouldn't worry too much, Listeria is a bacterium, not a mould, so you wouldn't be able to see it. The mould that you saw was completely unrelated. Not that you should eat mouldy food either, but just because you saw mould growing doesn't mean it was contaminated with Listeria too.

Thank you so much for putting my mind at ease ladies. x

I made toast out of mouldy bread and didn't realize until I got the next piece out! It's hard not to worry isn't it, but it sounds like it will be fine.

But also if you had it yesterday you would be likely to be ill by now, no?

I ate a left over half cut sarnie in me fridge from at least a two and half week ago with Philadelphia in it I didn't see any mould on either of the half cut sarnies but I didn't check the other fully and am wondering that if I ate a bit of mould would I vomit off that or would I be fine as with some moulds they can make you psychically sick and I hate being sick just like everyone else does and the two that I had looked fine but I cannot remember when I made the two that ate and maybe I should of threw the half cut sarnies away for a safety reason but I didn't
