YUK ALERT- What food tastes the same coming up as going down?

Sorry I know this is revolting. I am struggling with Hyperemesis and need to find out what comes up easily and without that nasty acidy taste as everything I eat just bounces within 10 minutes. So far, crème caramel and chicken korma are brilliant but wondering if there is anything else I can add to my repertoire?

Beef Monster munch...

Sorry, but true, got me through the same! And cheese oatcakes.

If you eat anything with fat in it, your gall bladder secretes bile to help digest it. Bile tastes bitter on the way back up. I'm reluctant to advise removing a food group because of nausea to a pregnant woman but if you are vomiting a lot of bile, it might help to reduce fats.

However if Creme caramel tastes better coming up despite it containing fat then continue eating it. Certainly sounds like dairy is helping as Korma has yoghurt in it. Maybe chicken Pasandra? Pasta with a creamy sauce? Just lightly dressed with it?

dont.eat.garlic.bread.

it tastes.. exactly the same... ugh

SicknSpan · 14/10/2013 11:38

Some things get that acidy, sicky taste after just a few minutes in my stomach whereas other stuff is fine (like the chicken korma, it didn't taste like sick, just chicken korma.)

Just had a spoonful of lentil soup which I thought might be ok. Bad move.

I lived on frozen raspberries for about a month. Taste exactly the same.
Don't eat apples or mash it makes you feel like your choking.

Sneezy86 · 14/10/2013 11:44

Been lurking for a while but had to sign up just to comment on this post.

I eat the green sour apple chewits after a lot of meals (only 1 or 2 each time) as they are delicious and taste the same coming back so make whatever is coming back taste more tolerable.

I find anything liquidy is the worst especially soup.

When I am going through a particularly bad bought I only eat cold food as find it tastes less offensive on the way up!

Bearfrills · 14/10/2013 11:46

I'd like to add noodles to the mash/apple choking sensation and they come out of your nose too

Melon tastes the same and so does mint ice cream.

mignonette · 14/10/2013 11:47

Bread can choke you coming up. Horrid feeling especially when you retch a lot and your stomach muscles get tired.

bittapitta · 14/10/2013 11:48

Spag bol. Projectile vomited it into the bath when I was pregnant! Yuck.

Seeline · 14/10/2013 12:00

Speaking from experience - Rice Krispies were OK Grin

Ribena's always been a standby for migraine vomiting

Ice cream!!! However if immediate it can also be still slightly cold....

SicknSpan · 14/10/2013 12:26

Starburst taste the same when coming back up as does tea

dobedobedo · 14/10/2013 15:08

This is the weirdest yet most useful thread I've come across. Grin

Frozen yoghurt or ice cream is the least acidic for me. Don't even think about eating chocolate mini rolls or cake though. I thought the acid would dissolve my throat!

PiccolaInglesina · 14/10/2013 15:29

I used to eat the biggest bags of cheesy wotsits I could find...Practically lived off them for 3 months!

IneedAsockamnesty · 14/10/2013 16:14

I found if I ate really sour sweets it masked the taste on its return of most things but the thing I can't stop is the pain certain foods cause

Anything carbohydrate or starchy and meat is very painful when puking

PositiveAttitude · 14/10/2013 16:26

Hula Hoops are quite tasteless on their return journey. Grin

Never eat Cornish pasty! It took me 10 years to eat one of those again!

BaronessBomburst · 14/10/2013 16:30

Apple juice - okay. Pesto - not okay.

PenguinsDontEatPancakes · 14/10/2013 17:05

Ice cream.

Chips. But only if you've also had plenty of water as they are pretty 'thick' on the way up.

Commiserations on the HG. I've not had it but it sounds miserable.

BartBaby · 14/10/2013 17:18

I've found strawberry yoghurt is ok coming back up. Also orange juice tastes ok. Salt and vinegar squares also not too bad.

Avoid weetabix. Very nasty. And stir frys with noodles or baby sweetcorn. Baby sweetcorn doesn't digest properly and comes back in massive pieces. Even though I'm sure I chewed it?!

milktraylady · 14/10/2013 17:19

Pickled onion monster munch Confused

milktraylady · 14/10/2013 17:19

Lemon ice lollies

milktraylady · 14/10/2013 17:21

I ended up just drinking water. Much prefer to vomit water rather than anything else!

Did lose 2 dress sizes & was skeletal though Shock

Good luck, get the anti sickness drugs. Check out lucindas support group
