YUK ALERT- What food tastes the same coming up as going down?

Sorry I know this is revolting. I am struggling with Hyperemesis and need to find out what comes up easily and without that nasty acidy taste as everything I eat just bounces within 10 minutes. So far, crème caramel and chicken korma are brilliant but wondering if there is anything else I can add to my repertoire?

Ex-bulimic here; lots of experience! Ice cream is absolute best. Anything processed also easy/less unpleasant; chicken nuggets/steaks etc. Bread clogs, really avoid if possible. Mashed potato is ok. Really fatty stuff can make vomit more acidic and unpleasant.

Agree with the post re. apple - tastes fine but texture is awful. My worst experience was a portion of chips and curry sauce, can't even look at the chippy without heaving now!

I find most breakfast cereals taste ok and are quite mushy so easy. Ribena/vimto also good. I just try and drink plenty of water so whatever it is slides out easily! x

Rice crispies are good.

Foods I avoid are noodles (horrific coming back up), Apple and ice cream.

Oh and orange juice is disgusting when it comes back up. Really acidic and if stinks.

Jelly is easy to throw back up. As are tinned peaches. They also help with getting fluids into you. Cous cous is a big no-no as the bits get stuck in your mouth. Are you taking any meds to help the hyperemesis?

I can add creamed mushrooms on toast to your listWink.
Fancied them for days but sproglet defiantly objected to the mushrooms Grin

That's so true about the lettuce! I remember being annoyed that I was puking up the low calorie lettuce and not puking up the chocolate brownie I'd eaten!

Good foods:

  • Ice cream
  • Porridge
  • Soup
  • Coco pops

Bad foods:
  • Chocolate (tastes bad)
  • Wheetabix (makes you choke Sad )
  • Bread (same as above)
  • Rice (TMI: comes out of your nose)

Bulimia as a teenager and hyperemesis in pregnancy has given me good experience. For example, no matter what order you eat things, the lettuce always comes up first...

I'm jealous of all those putting oranges though - as that seems to make me throw up in the mornings :(

Hello, everyone - I remember jelly being inoffensive and good for rehydration - I didn't mind ice cream (strawberry) but others have had bad Ice Cream Experiences.

Grapes are fine and that's what I ate when I knew I would be sick a short while later. Smooth and no bitter taste so not painful x

I went through a stage of really craving fresh orange juice. Masked the taste of everything else coming back up so wasn't too bad. Still struggling however.

Reviving this post because it's very useful (gross or not).

I thought marshmallows would taste alright the second time around as they have very little fat content apparently. Nope. They taste like vinegar. Avoid.

Mild Indian sauces like tikka masala tastes the same. As does Ben and Jerry's frozen yoghurt. Watch though, chocolaty gunk landing in the toilet looks like shit, which doesn't help with puking Confused

To echo a couple from bitter experience... Avoid apples and weetabix like the plague

I found mashed or jacket potato was fine in both directions

I ended up just drinking water. Much prefer to vomit water rather than anything else!

Did lose 2 dress sizes & was skeletal though Shock

Good luck, get the anti sickness drugs. Check out lucindas support group
