bloated like you wouldn't believe...

Am writing for a moan really...

Am now 11 weeks along with DC1 and whilst the nausea has eased up of late my digestion is still shot to pieces. Some days my stomach is bubbling away like a mad science experiment. Can't eat anything bigger than a sandwich and am belching, farting and feeling generally bloated all day long (sorry to be graphic.) Am trying to keep things quiet until after my scan (in 10 days time) but my stomach is so huge some days it's like I'm 20 weeks along already...

Anyone else in the same boat? Am I stuck with this for the next 6 months or does it pass?

I went through a terrible burpy bloated phase between 8 and 17 weeks. it definitely passed for me, but tbh was just replaced with heartburn and back ache!!Grin

Drinking peppermint tea is fantastic for bloating, really settles the stomach.

TwickyWoo · 08/07/2013 16:35

I've had this from pretty much the start and at 16 weeks I'm still struggling. I feel absolutely full of gas and so bloated that some days I feel truly enormous! Baby bump is just starting to show, but on really bad days I look seriously pregnant! Some foods seem to make it worse - like bread - so I find that if I stay off it I'm loads better and drinking lots and lots of water helps too. Other than that I have good days and bad days! :(

It's horrid isn't it. I was bigger at 12 weeks than 16 weeks with DD due to bloating.

I'm 6+3 with DC#2 and I think I'm worse than last time. Jeans really tight today. I'm hoping it goes away like it did last time.

I feel your belches, Ladies. This is one particularly undignified side effect I wasn't expecting. Thanks for your support and thanks for the tip about peppermint tea, am willing to try anything....

now 19+6 and it has calmed right down and now looking nearer to what I should for my dates.
im still getting very windy though!

JanePlanet · 09/07/2013 06:24

Same here. The farting was off the scale. Poor DH kept looking at me in horror.

JanePlanet · 09/07/2013 06:28

Sorry - meant to add, it's settled down now, probably after about 14 weeks. I'm 22 weeks with dc2 now. Looked about 6 months pg as soon as I poas this time round due to bloating.

I know exactly how you feel! I was exactly the same but there may be something you can do. There was another thread on here last week which was talking about probiotics. You can buy them in holland and Barrett - I got 100 strawberry flavoured ones for £6.69! You chew one a day and they are full of healthy bacteria so are Supposed to help your gut. I have been taking them for 3 days so far and I am so much better. Far less gassy, bowels have settled and I feel much better! If you search old threads you might find it - whoever posted it is my lifesaver!

Stacey thanks for the tip - will definitely try this. Was lying awake into the early hours last night feeling like someone had inflated my gut with a bicycle pump. Thanks also to all those MNers who said it passes - gives me cause for hope!

No problem at all, hope they help.
I found the thread - this may have more info

Quick update - the probiotics are proving a godsend. Actually managing to eat normal meals for the first time in weeks. Thanks so much!
