Put the cot up at around 32 weeks I think, when we were getting the room ready. But put the bedding on it at around 39 weeks so that it would be 'fresh'

FadBook · 29/06/2013 21:44

Cot up at 38 weeks pregnant

Cot dismantled in the nursery and put up again in our bedroom at 9 months Grin

Cot used at 9 months Wink

If you're using a Moses basket, baby will be in this for a while. I moved dd to a travel cot when she grew out of it but still wasn't ready for her to move to cot on her own, so cot came in to our room GrinGrin

It is recommended baby with you for 6 months, so consider if a cot will fit in your room (or if you need to move furniture out of your room to make room!)

So I got long time to wait lol oh well :)

we set the moses basket up around 35 weeks last time in our room, not really much to set up though with that. Ds didnt go into his cot until around 4 months as he outgrew his basket pretty quickly as hes going to be tall.

I couldnt have had the cot taking up all the space in our room until he was ready though as i was constantly banging my feet on the thing Smile. Once he was ready to move to the cot we found it easier to put his basket in the cot and let him sleep in the basket for a week or 2, so he got used to his new sleeping area, then took the basket out and he was absolutely fine. Ive heard other people have horrendous times transferring from basket to cot but someone on here told me to do that and it really worked for us!

KB02 · 29/06/2013 21:55

We used a second hand moses basket in our bedroom for about 5 months. I think I had washed the sheets/blankets and stored them in plastic bag then put the sheet on when we got him home. Later, I bought a little stretchy swaddle sheet that really settled him.

Just remembered that Dh went to get a new mattress while I was in hospital as midwife recommended it. Then crib lent to us. Ds went in cot and own room at 9 months.

Ds co sleeps a lot of the time now.

More importantly, have you got your hospital bag ready (if that's where you are giving birth) ?!

Onetwo34 · 29/06/2013 21:57

Baby is four months old. Considering putting the cot up now. Or next month. Just the basket is better to start with!

Katydive · 29/06/2013 22:25

Corned has been set up in nursery for a good few weeks probably 34 ish. All bedding on fresh although goodness knows why as she will be in our room in Moses basket for a short while. She will be getting changed on the night in the nursery and possibly fed and I remember using the cot to but my boys in under the mobile while I was getting things ready in the day, I used to get them dressed in the cot so they would get used to it, and it's a practical surface.
All mine moved into their cots fairly early like within a few weeks as I felt I would wake at every noise and be absolutely no good for them in the morning, this is a purely personal decision though.

Meant Cotbed daft phone!

Kelly1814 · 30/06/2013 09:49

am 26 weeks and our cot was bought and assembled in the spare room yesterday.

but then i am high risk of premature delivery and also work full time, and will be working up until the day i drop. this was one of our few free weekends so thought would grab the chance to get it sorted.

next stop, moses basket!

pumpkinsweetie · 30/06/2013 09:56

I didn't set the cot up until baby was 4.5m as she prefered her crib for over night sleeping & moses basket during the day.

hardbeingme · 30/06/2013 10:08

we had one one of those rocking crib things we set it up about 37/38 weeks, but my god it was fiddly! they should make you do it preconception - the arguing and swearing was so bad i wasn't sure we should be a couple let alone having a baby! i washed the bedding but didn't put in on until last minute.

MustafaCake · 30/06/2013 10:11

Erm about 8 weeks after DS was born (disclaimer, was too ill to move for most of pregnancy and he was 5 weeks prem!)

He slept in a moses basket or in my bed for the first few months.

MonstersDontCry · 30/06/2013 10:11

I'm due in 10 days and still haven't put the cot (not bothering with Moses basket this time) up. Blush

I'm so unprepared this time round!

Startail · 30/06/2013 10:18

DD2 was born at home and DH was building the crib round the MWs and me in the middle of the living room while I was in labour.Grin

lauracutee · 30/06/2013 10:34

I'm 34 weeks and putting the cot up today!

Christelle2207 · 30/06/2013 22:36

im 35 weeks and aiming to have it sorted by christmas!

iamci · 01/07/2013 03:08

ds is 5 weeks and cot is still in pieces! we're using Moses basket and just made it up when we got back from hospital Smile

babyhmummy01 · 01/07/2013 08:00

Cot has been up since we bought it as it was second hand. We put it up to check all the bits were there and never bothered to take it down.

As for bedding am now 33 weeks so gonna set the mattress up etc about 37 ish I guess.

parttimer79 · 01/07/2013 08:22

I'm 34 weeks - might get round to it this weekend?
Got the moses basket (got no bedding yet though...)

Teaandflapjacks · 01/07/2013 10:25

25 weeks or so - we have a crib though with wheels, and will move it between rooms but we were changing the bedding and stuff and it ended up being a rather useful dumping ground for baby stuff before we bought some extra drawers. Actually there is a bit of method in my thinking - we have a dog and I wanted her to be familiar with all the furniture well in advance. I had the pram sat in our for a couple of weeks too, and have walked her with it a few times. And I am sure this is probably nonsense but I wanted the stuff to 'breathe' a bit out of its packaging IFSWIM. xx

Beckmum4 · 01/07/2013 10:26

See I'm planning on putting the cot up in my room and then putting baby in Moses basket and then Moses basket in the cot as room is tight. Thinking about putting cot up around 35/37 weeks. With bedding and then put mosses basket in it :)

Ok I'm 33 weeks on Tuesday ( 6th) and I've gave up and put the cot up but I haven't put any bedding in it left the mattress in its wrapper and filled cot with all baby buys so used it as storage. I will put the bedding on and empty it of baby buys around 37 weeks

We used a co-sleeper which could be locked in place next to our bed, this was put together at 36 weeks pg. We got a cotbed when DD was 4 months & she went straight into it as she had got too big for the co-sleeper.

SupermansBigRedPants · 04/08/2013 21:45

Dd1 was 37/28 weeks - took forever to arrive.

Ds's was up at 36 weeks 'just in case' - he ended up late.

Dd2's I had built all the toys and was on a roll, put the cot up at 35 weeks, left the cover on the mattress - but - i have made the whole cot up, mobile etc all in place even though I know I'm going to strip the thing, remove the mattress cover and put fresh bedding on Hmm Blush I just love looking at it all pretty!

She'll be here in under a fortnight I can't wait :)

redcaryellowcar · 04/08/2013 21:51

Cot arrived at 35 weeks, Ds arrived at 36 weeks, he sat in car seat whilst we made up cot when we got home from hospital! Sheets had been washed by my lovely mum as I hadn't got round to it!
