Any chance of PFB arriving early?!

Hi ladies,

This isn't a loaded question, just more wondering really..

I'm 36 weeks with my first and just started my mat leave. I've kind of assumed all along that I'll go over and my PFB will arrive after my due date as my mum was late having me and all of my friends have been late when having theirs. Also I know it's kind of accepted that your first tends to be late.

So, I was just wondering if anyone had been early with their first (delivered naturally, not induced etc) and if so how early?!

Me, me! My pfb was a week early. Waters broke at 5am and she was born at 2pm the next day.

TheTiger · 01/06/2013 14:53

Me, DS came at 38+3!!

I also have friends whose DC1 came at 36 and 37 weeks.

Good luck!!

MrsBazinga · 01/06/2013 14:55

My pfb came 2 weeks early. All fine, straightforward labour, good weight (8 lbs). I was a little shocked as was expecting to go over dates, but very glad I didn't suffer as some friends did with interminable waiting and waddling.

LemonBreeland · 01/06/2013 14:56

My pfb came a week early, after I had convinced myself he would be late. It meant I went into complete denial that I was in labour. Grin

hellohellohihi · 01/06/2013 14:58

Me! Pfb was a day early! I was convinced I'd be late but no she surprised me with a quick, easy and early arrival much better time-keeping than her mother who's late for EVERYTHING

usualsuspect · 01/06/2013 15:02

My PFB was born 5 weeks early

Wereonourway · 01/06/2013 15:03

My pfb came at 34 weeks, waters started leaking and I gave birth the next day.

He was 5lb 10oz at 34 weeks and got stuck, very traumatic labour and nicu experience, thankfully he is now a very bright 2 yr old with no lasting effects so I can look back and think how big he would have been if he went to term!

cravingcake · 01/06/2013 15:39

My pfb finally arrived at 38+4, my waters went as a slow trickle early hours of 38+1. Very traumatic birth but my DS is now a very active 19 month old who does not stop running! I have 2 friends that had their pfb at 35 weeks and 37 weeks so it can happen.

cravingcake · 01/06/2013 15:41

Forgot to add he was 8lb 2oz and 'fully cooked' Shock

Meringue33 · 01/06/2013 15:44

Yes 37+2. Pack your hospital bag!!!!

Repeatedlydoingthetwist · 01/06/2013 16:04

Ooh OK so it does happen then? I've got my bag ready just in case! Grin

DD1 was One week early and DD2 was three days early.

FobblyWoof · 01/06/2013 16:14

My waters broke two days before DD's due date. Ended up having her on her due date (after deliberately not getting attached to the date as I was sure she wouldn't be born on it!)

Definitely helped being so sure I was to go two weeks over, I feel for the ladies who do a daily countdown only to go over

BikeRunSki · 01/06/2013 16:29

Spontaneous labour and waters breaking for me: pfb at 37+5, psb at 39.

PattieOfurniture · 01/06/2013 16:36

Pfb arrived 38+2. I was convinced I'd go overdue. So it was a shock when he made an early entrance.
Dc2 arrived spot on 36 wks aswell. Two early birds.

ilovevenice · 01/06/2013 17:01

My DS1 was 35 weeks + 5 - I was still at work when I felt "a bit funny"! 24 hours later he was here weighing 6lbs 9 oz so fine. Do pack that bag - all our baby clothes were at my MIL's house and we had to walk DS1 home in a sling as we had no buggy or car seat...!

CuppaSarah · 01/06/2013 18:17

DD was two days early! It wasn't by much but being my first I was convinced I'd need inducing and 12 days overdue. Even had a 41 week sweep booked with midwife.

Apparentlychilled · 01/06/2013 18:19

Yep! DD was born at 37+1!

MasterSplinter · 01/06/2013 18:24

The thing is you'll get a self selecting group of people on here telling you they went early. If you asked if anybody went overdue, you'd have an overwhelming response the other way...

I had both of mine early. Not too early but just early enough that I never reached a stage where I was too uncomfortable. It happens. A normal pregnancy is 37-42 weeks. Your baby will probably arrive somewhere within that time frame. Grin

Strokethefurrywall · 01/06/2013 19:59

DS arrived at 37+6 and arrived in 5 hours. I think I assumed I would be early because my sister had DNiece at 37 weeks, and we all seem to have small, early babies in my family. When DS arrived he was 6lb 5oz which is the same weight as DH and I when we were born.

I think I've been spoilt though because I reckon the next baby will be late and I'll be expecting an early delivery again!

I'd pack your bags in any event, it can't hurt right?

Repeatedlydoingthetwist · 01/06/2013 20:05

Ha! Thank you MasterSplinter that timeframe is most useful!!! Grin

I know that whatever I think is going to happen, the exact opposite is bound to occur. Best thing I can do is sit with my bag ready and just see what happens really. Like I said in my OP I just assumed that everyone went over so I'm really interested to hear stories of people who haven't!

Good to hear that everyone who was early had a happy ending too SmileThanks

My first was a few days early, I couldn't believe it either as was convinced I'd be late. Her brother on the other hand...

samsmother · 01/06/2013 20:35

Hey Big, my waters broke spontaneously at 36+1 so was admitted to hospital. Was told I would be induced the following morning if contractions didn't start. They did all by themselves that night. Beautiful boy (my first) arrived naturally the next morning :-) To add, there was NO warning at all, felt fab so it all came so unexpectedly, surreal is the best way to describe it all but it does happen!

EuroShaggleton · 01/06/2013 20:36

I was a PFB and a few days early! I have friends who have been early with their first too.
