Hospital bag question - disposible knickers or cheapo cotton knickers??

That's it really. 31 weeks and starting to get the bag together. Do I brave Primark tomorrow for some big cheap pants and a big cheap night shirt that I can chuck post birth or are disposable knickers the way forward? From what I've seen / read the disposable knickers are a bit grim. But then maybe I haven't found the good ones :)

I went for cheapo cotton. Something about comfort and pretending I could still have some dignity.

I would definitely get cheapo primark granny knickers, more comfy and prob cheaper. Just throw away the ones you cant be bothered washing.

I used disposable with ds1 and cheapo cottons for ds2.
Def go with the cheapo ones. The disposable are horrid.

Def cheapie cotton ones - big ones just in case of csection- had to send my mother out shopping after mine!

Unanimous vote for Primark Granny pants it is then .

Did you all go for a size up from your normal size to take post birth belly into consideration?

I went cheapo primark pants, big nightshirt for pre-labour (I was induced) and a dressing gown. I think it all came to £15

Cheapo cotton ones. I hate to alarm you but can't imagine disposable standing up to the, ahem, onslaught, my pants suffered. And if I haven't made my point well enough yet, you want black ones, not white . The primark are actually nice enough for regular use I think - they fit my very much enlarged bum anyway.

Primark ones, as if you don't ruin them all you may use some to slob around in post-birth. I'd go for more than five though - what with the show, waters etc, I seemed to use up about a million pants in hospital, and still ran out!

Cheap cotton. Got big size, ended up not really needing them that big, but as I had relatively light bleeding, they came away unharmed, and I'm now wearing them in late pregnancy. High waisted in case of C section scar.

Rooty not alarmed at all, I had wondered how paper knickers (a la those you go for a massage in) would a) cover your dignity even if you have been legs akimbo for hours b) stand up to massive....er....onslaught!! Thank you for the pad recommendation too :) I haven't bought those yet. I've just been picking up random bits and pieces over the last couple of weeks.

So, 4 packs of 5 x big black pants in 2 sizes up from Primark should do the job. I like the slobbing post birth suggestion. And 20 (or however many make it through the war zone) pairs of pants, washed on return from hospital, should negate washing for a couple of weeks leaving me more time to concentrate on baby stuff. That sounds like a tenner well spent to me.

I'm still wearing the cheapo ones I bought to give birth in 4 years ago! They're falling apart at the seams now quite literally.

I love my cheap granny pants from Tesco. In fact I may never wear normal size pants ever again. I never threw any away either, I just wore two huge pads all the time for the first week or so and changed regularly.

I wore my oldest black pants to the hospital and binned them when waters broke in them, wore some disposables (friend gave me some) for about half an hour, handy as they could be ripped off for examination rather than wriggling out of them. Then I didn't any until afterwards. Thats when the lovely Primark pants came into their own.

The quality of those 5 for 2.50 pants is much better than you'd think. Their multi pack pants are better quality than the awful ones they sell individually for £1.50. I still wear my big mama pants for sleeping in v comfy.

I wholeheartedly recommend Tena pants for initial post-birth onslaught. Hideously unattractive and make you feel about 90, but did a fabulous job, then you graduate onto massive black Primark pants after a couple of days.

Primark. Will cost you the same, they feel much nicer and blood washes out quite well actually so you can use them afterwards as well.

Oh and cheap nightshirts. I gave birth in a cheap primark nighty.

A good thing I bought from their nightwear section, was a long checked shirt, that you could wear like a dressing gown come cardigan. This was good in those first couple of days after birth, with some dark coloured yoga pants and a stretchy vest. I felt more "dressed" than wearing a dressing gown, but not too warm for boiling hospital, comfy enough to sleep in. Still wear it now, when up at night feeding.

Am I the only one who bought mothercare pregnancy pants then? I loved the big ones with extra support for bump. They were also comfy after the birth and I wasn't worried about getting them mucky (wasn't actually a problem BTW)

Tesco also full briefs £2.50 for 5 pairs. I'm a size 12 usually and bought a size 16.
