Hospital bag question - disposible knickers or cheapo cotton knickers??

That's it really. 31 weeks and starting to get the bag together. Do I brave Primark tomorrow for some big cheap pants and a big cheap night shirt that I can chuck post birth or are disposable knickers the way forward? From what I've seen / read the disposable knickers are a bit grim. But then maybe I haven't found the good ones :)

Make sure whatever nightshirty type things you get undo down to the waist if you are planning to breastfeed - easier to get your knockers out if you don't have to strip completely
I really enjoyed packing the bag last time - it all started to seem real at last. Will be packing extra early this time as expecting twins :-o
Good luck XX
PS all you ladies still in your big Primark pants, don't forget to convert back to sexy pants once in a blue moon at some point ...

I'd get black knickers rather than white...

Oh I did! And erm... still have them 4 years on for periods!

whattodoo · 05/04/2013 22:42

Tesco grannys. You'll probably find you need to wear a pad for quite a while post-birth so its handy to have a stock you can chuck in the washer to be re-worn.

I went for giant primark black knickers too. Never had to throw any away or anything.
It was a wrench when I got rid of them when DS was about ermm..well 12 months. They're so comfy.

My Primarni specials are just giving up the ghost after 2 years. I will take the most manky ones into hosp for DC2, due in 9 weeks. I think I did a similar price comparison and found the cheap multipacks from p or supermarkets costed the same or less than a similar quantity of disposables. Can't remember when I had to wear disposables for something (might have been my first bikini wax "modesty" thong) but really didn't like the feeling.

Nicolaeus · 06/04/2013 11:40

I had both and think I started with disposables but quickly moved to big black cotton ones. Never leaked though. I used the boots pads (brilliant) and ones the hospital gave me (despite them saying thy wouldnt so Ive actually got some left over

Tip from my midwife - use a pad to blot yourself dry after the loo (and wee whilst pouring water on yourself - is bliss) then throw away and use two clean pads (to make one very long pad) in your knickers (probably why I never leaked!).

In pregnancy I wore a size bigger than usual, low rise knickers to sit below the bump.
I bought cheapo asda and tesco pants for after, I'm 2 weeks post c section and the huge tesco pants (size 14, I'm usually in an 8/10) that come up past my belly button are a life saver.
I think they were about £3 for 5 pairs - with pads on they haven't been ruined at all, and I can wash/wear so they've worked out way cheaper than disposables!

letsgetreadytoramble · 06/04/2013 21:46

Cheapo primark ones, couple sizes too big, I ended up having a C section and they were fab for that.

Tena Lady. Amazing!

BNmum · 06/04/2013 22:01

Deffo cotton ones, think I got some from asda and I'm still wearing them after 2 years. Loved boots maternity pads which were well cushioned, I think they're about £1.05 for 10, I also loved johnsons nursing pads.

I've taken note of the tena for future though

mylovelymonster · 06/04/2013 22:07

disposables are terrible and don't fit well. Felt very unsure of security of mahoosive panty-pads with disposables Blush

FriendofDorothy · 06/04/2013 22:13

I bought some multi-pack knickers from Primark. They were super-soft and comfortable and brilliant at keeping pad in place. So very comfortable!

olivertheoctopus · 06/04/2013 22:17

I just used the disposable ones. They were fine.

chickensaladagain · 06/04/2013 22:21

What's with the 2 pad thing?

Never needed 2 pads, the boots maternity ones coped just fine
