Spotting 2 weeks after threatened mc - handholding please

I went to EPU today as I had a slightly strange yellow discharge and some moderate cramping (though not unusual for me). I gave a urine sample and vaginal swab to check for infection. But I now have brown/pink mixed in with the discharge too and the cramping continues. I had a threatened mc a few weeks ago (gush of blood and clots) and I'm scared I'm in for another bleed tonight. Why do these things always happen overnight and at the weekend? I'm 14 weeks. If you'd like to hold my hand, I'd be very grateful. x

I'll hold your other hand Gingerbread. Thanks.

Ive had bleeds in both my healthy pregnancies. It's not uncommon. Hope this is just a bit of discharge and nothing else. Pregnancy can be so scary. Hang in there.

Gingerbreadpixie · 01/03/2013 22:52

Oh bless you I'm hoping its just a bit of old blood or something too but the cramping has started to feel like it did with my last bleed, which although had a good outcome in the end, was the most terrifying experience of my life. :(

I was thinking about you today but couldnt find your 1st thread, sorry things are still not great.

At 14 weeks you can be seen by maternity triage/delivery at my hospital at least and they are there 24/7 that said could it be coming from your cervix due to having swabs taken?? Have they/are they checking for group b strep? Thats what was causing yellow/greenish discharge for me as far as i know. I can sympathise with always worrying a little bit will lead to alot i was last seen for some blood about 3 weeks ago (im now 33 weeks) eveytime im worried so i get it hope your ok Thanks

Gingerbreadpixie · 02/03/2013 10:13

Hi hopingfor. Nice to hear from you. Well I didn't have the bleed I thought was coming last night but I am still cramping quite a bit with back pain and still a bit of brown when I wipe. They didnt actually swab my cervix in the end but just did a low vaginal swab instead. I'll get the results of that and urine sample Tues/Weds. Ill ask about strep B then.

If things get worse my EPU is at St Thomas's and at least they're open on Sat and Sundays for limited hours. Though they don't scan on weekends at least someone is there. I went to Kings A&E last time as its actually my closest hospital and I've since discovered they also have EPU at weekends for A&E referrals only. So I don't feel quite as isolated as I did.

Great news re no bleeding. Let's hope it stays that way.

Cramping and back pain could be due to stretching and your centre of gravity changing as your bump starts to emerge. But you know if you're worried you should head in.

Take care

Mandytm · 02/03/2013 10:23

If you had a extra hand, I'd hold it.

I'm also preganant and after a few scares I bought a fetal doppler from Amazon. At 14 weeks it took me a few minutes to find the heartbeat but it's a big comfort when you hear it. I'd recommend getting one, but limit yourself to using it so you're not thinking about it and worrying all the time. x

Gingerbreadpixie · 02/03/2013 11:57

I'm feeling some sharp-ish jabby pains in lower abdomen so going to go to EPU.
I think I'm going to ask them to check my cervix after all as the pains are quite low down.

Feel for you, fingers crossed it settles down. At my 12 week scan I was told they could see a small bleed in my placenta (wtf???!) and not to worry but I should expect to see blood or bloody discharge within a few days. I never got it but they were quite clear that if it was pink or brown then it would be "old" blood and not to be concerned, only to call if it was red. so fx it's something like that. The cramping could be unconnected but I like you would be worried if I had both at the same time. Hope both go away soon. X

Hope u get on ok today let us know

Gingerbreadpixie · 02/03/2013 15:44

We're ok for now. Had swabs done of my cervix to check for infection (only had low vaginal swabs yesterday) and a lovely doctor checked to make sure my cervix wasn't opening. It was closed and looked normal. She suspects pain is ligaments.

I'm really glad I went to EPU. The doctor was very reassuring. I'll find out next week if there's any infection and take it from there. xx

Thanks i had a scare at 14 weeks too in fact i still get blood sumtimes and worry everytime! Also im rh neg so in everytime! Once u feel baby move it helps a little

ChairmanWow · 02/03/2013 22:44

Yay Gingerbread. Glad things are looking normal. Stretching pains can be really worrying. Not getting stretching pains is also worrying! It's a flippin' nightmare! Glad your EPU are good. It's reassuring to know they're there if things get scary. You should feel baby over the next month or two as well which will help.

In terms of bleeds I've had 3 each time, probably due to my cervix being soft. I'm rh neg too so have to have anti D. Last time I bled, at 24 weeks I was put on a sex ban Shock. Nightmare!

Gingerbreadpixie · 03/03/2013 22:17

Still spotting brown gunk and cramping on and off. I'm worn out with worry :(

Aww im sorry i know its not easy, can you get a scan today?just for some peace of mind i know my hosp scan dept opens at 8.30am so if i phoned n was seen i might get one can u?

ChairmanWow · 04/03/2013 07:32

Oh you poor thing. Not surprised you're worn out. Our EPU will scan at short notice too. Sounds like you do need a scan to get some reassurance and to see if they can find a source. Brown blood isn't fresh though, which is good.

Hope you manage to get seen today Thanks

Gingerbreadpixie · 04/03/2013 07:33

I think I will give them a call. I'm not sure if my EPU scans after 12 weeks. I'll ring around in an hour or so and find out what my options are

OP posts:
Gingerbreadpixie · 04/03/2013 09:23

My EPU won't scan me as the issue is "ongoing" and not new. If I see fresh blood I'm to go in. I'm tempted to call a different EPU.

Thats a shame when do u next go to ur diabetes antenatal clinic?i got sent for a scan a cpl times when i told my consultant what was happening

Gingerbreadpixie · 04/03/2013 09:35

I'm at diabetic antenatal next week. Although I just called the EPU who saw me for my threatened mc (from A&E) have booked to scan me tomorrow. No questions, no problems.

My main hospital where I'm due to give birth have given me fantastic care so far but I've not been hugely impressed with their EPU nurse/receptionists I must say.

Hopingforno2 · 04/03/2013 10:09

Hopingforno2 · 05/03/2013 16:37

How did ur scan go?
