so.. first pregnancy scared as fuck
im 20 weeks
i had a scan this week
im due 27/12
shes put on my notes im due 02/01/13

so does this mean that im now due in january because of my DD's size?
does this mean she inputted the EDD wrong?
does anyone know what all of the BPD's, FL's, HC's and AC's mean.. what should they be? are mine okay?!

all i know is that i was told at the scan that DD's belly was measuring at 21+5.. and so i got all worried and am trying to look at my notes :(

helppppppp!

Your new EDD will be due to the measurements the sonographer took.

HecateHarshPants · 13/08/2012 10:53

here

and here

or there's this text
What are "AC", "BPD", "FL" and "HC" in ultrasound measurements?

Abdominal Circumference (AC) measures the mother's belly in cross section. Especially later in pregnancy, it is used as an indicator of fetal weight and growth. Sometimes, serial measurements are taken to ensure an accurate reading.

BPD stands for Biparietal Diameter and is an ultrasound measurement taken of the baby's head (from side to side). Along with the Femur Length (FL) and Abdominal Circumference (AC), it is used to estimate the fetal weight.

Femur Length (FL) often is measured along with AC and BLD measurements. The femur is the longest bone in the body and measurement of this bone is taken to estimate fetal growth.

AC, BPD and FL are combined in a formula to estimate fetal weight. While most ultrasound machines contain calculators, here is the formula used to figure the fetal weight: 1.4 X BPD X FL X AC (all in centimeters) - 200 = Fetal weight. (This is an estimate and becomes less accurate as baby gets farther from about 5.5 lbs.)

HC indicates Head Circumference. Babies of the same weight can have different head sizes.

TeaandHobnobs · 13/08/2012 11:10

Hecate I thought Abdominal Circumference was the baby's not the mother's? Confused
(I appreciate you've just copied that from a link so you are not necessarily saying that!)

HauntedLittleLunatic · 13/08/2012 11:12

Abdominal circumfrance is definitely the babies.

I didn't think they changed edd from anomaly scan tho.

hlipop · 13/08/2012 11:13

yes ring your midwife if your confused / worried!! 5/ 6 days isn't to much movement to worry too much about. my 1st was 8days late from edd and my second 5 days late its just a guide

Bubbless · 13/08/2012 11:13

thats what i thought, isnt that what the first scan is for! for a EDD!
so the sonographers made a mistake?!?!

inspires me with confidence..

horseylady · 13/08/2012 11:16

My baby didn't have a heartbeat according to my notes so.....

hlipop · 13/08/2012 11:17

it can change due to babys growth (i think) my due dates where both moved try not to panic but do ring your midwife if you want to talk to her / see her before next appointment i found that midwives are usually very helpful and will discuss your worries etc - like i say 5/6 days isn't too bad my 2nd babies due date was brought 8 weeks forward at my 12 week scan dating her at 20 weeks!! felt like i'd lost 8 weeks of my life somewhere for planning etc...

newtonupontheheath · 13/08/2012 11:24

EDD is taken from your 12 week scan, so that one should apply. Sonographer should have explained those things to you but if you are not sure, call your mw and make an appointment. You don't need extra stress and hassle. Make a list of all the questions you have before you go, so you clear everything up (voice of experience...I always forget what I meant to ask!!)

Some times a slight change to your due date can work in your favour... So if you went overdue and didn't want an induction, for example.

It's good to remember that your baby won't know what due date is written on your notes and will arrive whenever he/she is ready Grin

Good luck and enjoy the rest of your pregnancy! Smile

Bubbless · 13/08/2012 11:26

hlipop i would ring my MW but shes horrible so busy and always makes it sound like im wasting her time :'(

Great advice from newton there bubbless.

Or do what I do and don't read your notes Wink

Bubbless · 13/08/2012 11:34

just spoken to my mw stupid women and she said that they have probably moved my dates as opposed to it being a typo

why am i so upset over this?
literally bawling my eyes out :(

OP posts:
Bluebell99 · 13/08/2012 11:41

It really doesn't matter about due date and the difference is only 5 days. My ds was born 16 days after his due date and my dd was 14 days early. Both of them arrived in the 'wrong' month!

HecateHarshPants · 13/08/2012 11:41

Yeah, I just found some links. Sorry if they were inaccurate.

It's been 12 years since I was pregnant, so I can't remember a bloody thing. I thought FL was fundal length Hmm

Why are you upset? Probably because you're pregnant and hormonal Grin maybe because you were all geared up for the first date and now they're moving it. Maybe because the uncertainty is scaring you. Whatever it is, it's ok. You're allowed a little sob about it. It's all going to be ok. xx

Bubbless · 13/08/2012 11:49

if i was crying over a real problem i wouldnt feel as stupid, its the fact im crying for no real reason.. we already knew that bump might make her arrival after the new year but now its .. definate? (which obvs it isnt) its so upsetting and i have no idea why, just thrown me i guess.

so, someone be brutally honest.. have they moved the dates because

  1. they were wrong in the first place
  2. baby isnt growing quick enough = my fault
  3. the sonographers trying to give me a nervous breakdown missed a cm of leg or something?!
OP posts:
HecateHarshPants · 13/08/2012 11:54

They are changing them because it doesn't take 40 weeks exactly to grow a baby. Every woman is different. Gestation is about 40 weeks but not exactly 40 weeks to the day. So it can be revised based on how the baby looks.

My first got moved back by 2 weeks from the original date (based on last period or something) when I had scans.

Babies come when they come. They try to guess when that will be based on these measurements.

Bubbless · 13/08/2012 12:06

so DD is a slow grower?

just phoned DP and he seemed very Hmm at me crying, and said surely its a good thing- we wont have to buy clothes as often!

thank you pants

OP posts:
HecateHarshPants · 13/08/2012 12:08

Nah. Just growing at the right speed for her.

My mum cooked me and my sister in 8 months.

Mine had to be dragged out kicking and screaming weeks late! Grin

StaceymReadyForNumber3 · 13/08/2012 12:09

Bubbless I cried the other day because my computer wouldn't work right. Hormones are a bitch! Your dd will arrive as and when she wants not to your or anyone else's schedule (am I right in thinking you are one of the tinier people, size 8/10? In which case you may just have a petite dd!

Stop giving yourself a hard time and eat some chocolate for some happy hormones! Xx

Bubbless, don't wory about crying your eyes out. It's very normal, our hormones are all over the place. Don't forget you were comforting me a few weeks ago when I took to my bed for a full day when they moved me back 5 days Blush!

Baby Bubbs will come when ready and it really won't matter what your notes say. I agree with Stacey, chocolate is your only way to proceed xxx

TiggerWearsATriteSmile · 13/08/2012 12:15

EDD is just that. An estimate. Why exactly are you freaking out over a few days.
You may end up like me, 2 weeks over that date or like my friend who had her baby yesterday 3 weeks early.

Baby will come when she wants.

greenwichgroove · 13/08/2012 12:20

Your baby doesn't care what due date is wrote in a book :) he or she will arrive when they want to.

albertswearengen · 13/08/2012 12:21

Don't worry it happens to lots of people and scans are not an exact science. % days are neither here nor there.
I knew exactly my due date but the 12 week scan put it a week ahead. I was happy with this pyschologically as it meant the baby might come sooner- which was stupid as the baby was going to come when it wanted to.
In the end it meant they tried to do a sweep etc a week before I thought I was full term- which was painful and pointless and they had me booked for an induction at 40 weeks which they thought was 41. As it was DS tried to make an exit exactly on MY calculated date.

So even though they have put your date back it will work in your favour as your baby has time to make an appearance before they start poking about.
