I've just been and erm, tidied myself up before the big day. And, ahem, I wasn't expecting what's just faced me in the mirror.

Are things supposed to be so swollen/large down there Blush

Nearly 38 weeks and not looked till now Blush

I don't shave that region of my body so has a look of Barry Gibb I referred to it in that manner many years ago and it has just stuck. Sorry, should refer to it normally in public.

nunnie · 21/06/2012 14:34

Only person I could think of with dark combed back hair, which is how mine looked after using hairspray.

McPhee · 21/06/2012 15:09

Well mines not so much Amy Winehouse now...more like Kojak Shock Blush

But I didn't mean to Blush

It will grow back Wink

Westcountrylovescheese · 21/06/2012 17:27

Cough cough... can I bring the attention of you razor waving ladies to the joys of (with protectors) clippers... Wink

Brings a whole new meaning to the term 'number two'. DH is quite the hairdresser... Wink

Westcountrylovescheese · 21/06/2012 17:27

Ps.. He hasn't mentioned any changes and I am not asking.

SleepyFergus · 21/06/2012 17:36

This thread has reminded me that I need to do some topiary maintenance down there. Due today but no sign of baby making any entrance, but I guess I should be prepared!

As for looking - I never looked last time, and certainly not after giving birth. This time I know I have a wee friend down there (mr haemorrhoid) and I have no intention of seeing it.....feeling it is bad enough! Feels like the size of a golf ball, and I can only imagine that the rest of my undercarriage won't be too pretty.

I just got a pedicure in the hope that my pretty toes will distract slightly from my gruffalo come the big day!

twofurryones · 21/06/2012 17:37

I'm really baffled as to why you would spray deoderant down there, does it not sting?

nickelbarapasaurus · 21/06/2012 17:39

yes, it's very large down there and very hairy.

i actually wanted to flash my bits to a midwife after mine had gone back to normal Blush

nunnie · 21/06/2012 18:41

Doesn't sting if you don't shave, it was just a bush freshner for my internal check I had to have as 27 weeks. Sprayed from a distance not close up or internally of course.

Fermin · 21/06/2012 19:23

I got waxed last week which was pretty grim (28 weeks). However, the lady said to keep it as tidy as poss in the run up to birth and to make sure that you had EVERYTHING off in your final appointment a week or two before EDD. She says in the event of CS, they will shave you and the combination of sore scar and shaving regrowth is pretty unpleasant. I
am weighing up my options!

kaymondo · 21/06/2012 19:35

I think your waxer is just after your business - I wasn't shaved for my CS!

Flisspaps · 21/06/2012 19:37

Fermin they only take off an inch or two from the top of your pubic hair - its definitely not the whole lot!

Fermin · 21/06/2012 20:20

Thanks, I thought as much. She hadn't actually had a CS herself so was a little bit Hmm when she was trying to convince me. I definitely won't bother then.

StormBird · 21/06/2012 20:26

Flisspaps I meant 12 week scan (stupid brain)

LOLing at 'Barry Gibb'

Loving this thread!

Midgetm · 21/06/2012 20:46

DC1 I got a courtesy wax. This time round I am less inclined to bother. I may just chuck a packet of wax strips at the first HCP who ferrets by my fanjo with a cry of 'while you'll down there'.

HelloBear · 21/06/2012 22:04

PML at this thread. I love MN for this kind of discussion.

I'm 21 weeks and remember the day I went into labour contractions started at 5am, at 5.30 my DH found me in the bath and asked what the hell I was doing. Well of course I was shaving my legs and having a trim. It was fine as long as I put the razor down during CXs Hmm

Back to the original OP - Mcphee step away from the mirror, just do not look. It is depressing.

emblosion · 21/06/2012 23:51

This thread is hilarious Grin... I had a peek at about 30 weeks and was so horrified at my massive, swollen and - worst of all- purple bits that I haven't dared look since!

I have however used DH's beard trimmer (with safety guards!) to stop it getting too wild.

Hats off to those who wax, you're braver than me!

SoupDragon · 22/06/2012 07:10

"keep it as tidy as poss in the run up to birth"

Yes, because the midwife and entire obstetric team is going to judge you by the quality of your lady gardening. [arf]

McPhee · 22/06/2012 07:28

Well it appears I've missed quite a section according to DP. I'm sporting a half wig Grin

And to top it off I've been bitten on my swollen vag by a mozzie in the night Blush

sanitytrowel · 22/06/2012 11:16

Well,I couldn't just read this thread and not take a peek at myself. 29 weeks and Shock 'tis not what it used to be. Looks like a sesame street character.

Splinters · 22/06/2012 12:04

Oh my, I've never laughed so much I actually had tears running down my face before. Early pregnancy is such a beautiful time!

Sounds like late pregnancy is going to be even better!

Thanks op, and all the rest of you. You've all made me very happy

SquealyB · 22/06/2012 12:14

Almost spat water at the comptuer reading this!! Grin

Am 9 wks today and not looking forward to what is medically referred to as FPFS (fat purple fanny syndrome). I think a support group should be started to deal with the fall out of the serious issue.

On ehm maintencnce issues, can recomment using DH's beard trimmer with smaller attachments keeps it nice and neat down there and less dangerous than with a naked blade.

Flisspaps · 22/06/2012 12:22

storm that makes more sense Grin

CandyPop · 23/06/2012 08:58

Ahhhh thank god for this thread!!! I'm 19 weeks and although fanjo hasn't ballooned yet, I had a wax last week and was horrified that it looked purple. I've been questioning myself as I've also seem to be suffering a lot with baby brain that maybe its always purple??!! But now I know haha

Planning to wax all the way to due date , it will be a mess down there after the birth and don't want the garden to get
