Beginnings of labour? Should I feel this bulge down below?!

My due date is today. Already had a ds (20mo). Woke up with chronic back ache and cramps at the top of the thighs, chilled out today with my TENS machine (having a home birth so not much else to do). The pain has subsided to be a bit dull, but I am suddenly acutely aware of a bulge in my fanjo. It feels as though there is a grapefruit pressing against it from the other side...could this be the head and is it normal to feel this? Or could it be my waters?

Ds was an easy labour (woke up 10 cms gone and literally began to push whole ordeal was over in a few hours) so I "missed" the beginnings of labour and have no idea what I should be expecting. I know not to bother my midwife to come out until I have contractions/a show (have rung to let her know I'm feeling a bit weird though).

Is it normal?

She might just be sleeping. Slightly concerning that she woke up 10 cm dilated with dc1, and she's gone to bed already 7 cm.

Don't sleep through it! Grin

hiccymapops · 02/12/2011 22:37

All this is making me too broody.......

PacificDogwood · 02/12/2011 22:38

Can I place a new bet? Seeing that my time came and went and very, very little has happened

So... I'll stick with boy, 3.12.11 6.05am, 8lbs 3oz

Good luck to all labouresses - whether in real, imagined or only wishful thinking transition Grin!

Wolfiefan · 02/12/2011 22:39

I like the whole vicarious birth thing. Gas and air anyone?

JamInMyWellies · 02/12/2011 22:42

Cocking Nora have just read the whole thread thinking there would be a baby by now. Come on EEC. All together now puuuuusshhhhh Xmas Grin

Wolfiefan · 02/12/2011 22:43

No pushing. Run out of wine again. Got to this stage last night and I was up fretting and she was resting. OMG is this what it will be like if my DD ever has a baby? Sob.

TheFirstNoelChinchilla · 02/12/2011 22:48

Have been lurking on this all day too, and was hoping for a baby by now. Do hope ECC is OK!

Am in awe of any woman decorating a cake and sorting errant pine needles whilst getting to 7cm.

Love the advent calendar baby idea; mine's landing on the 12th, but can't really post as having a section, and think OH may be a mite distracted to do so...Xmas Grin

droves · 02/12/2011 22:58

Could she actually give birth whilst sleeping ? Is that possible ?

If so. I feel very cheated . None of my births involved having a nap !

PANCHEY · 02/12/2011 23:01

7cm and having a nap Xmas Shock

Never napped whilst birthing. Howled perhaps! Chinchilla please tell DH that we are important women who need to know as soon as!

Good luck for section BTW!

PacificDogwood · 02/12/2011 23:06

Well, there are reports of women having woken up to find a sleeping newborn next to them in bed.... Personally, I believe said infants must have been delivered by a very quiet stork - a Stealth Stork, possibly.

The only way I might have slept through my labours and deliveries would have involved heavy duty anaethetic drugs!!

samwellsbutt · 02/12/2011 23:10

me too no way i could have slept through any of mine...would have been nice though.

droves · 02/12/2011 23:13

How good would that be ? Go to bed pg and wake up a mummy ! ...best bit would be missing the labour Grin

If ECC does deliver whilst asleep , would that be a MN first ? And does she get a special award from MNHQ ?

ICanTuckMyBoobsInMyPockets · 02/12/2011 23:14

I slept between contractions, but that's because I only had 3 hours sleep and was in a lovely hot bath..... The midwives and DP were so quiet, letting me snooze bless 'em!

hiccymapops · 02/12/2011 23:15

I wouldn't have minded that at all, as long as I was sleeping on shower curtains Grin

Sad
MrsChristmasDB · 02/12/2011 23:32

Half an hour to go till the 3rd.

I predicted earlier that EEC would have a Dec. 3rd baby, will I be right ?

I am thinking of you, EEC. Have you been working hard, or sleeping ?

TysTheSeasonToBeJolly · 02/12/2011 23:47

Ooh how exciting! Good luck :)

samwellsbutt · 03/12/2011 00:11

its the 3rd woo, go on push that baby out.

MrsChristmasDB · 03/12/2011 00:22

Will be off to bed shortly, but I do hope everything has gone well and safely for you, EEC.

I shall make a special visit to mn in the morning to see how you got on/are going.

JayneyMack · 03/12/2011 00:28

I can't believe that Ecc is still pregnant!
Was sure last night that the birth was very imminent, i.e. before midnight last night. Given my own short labours I always feel so much sympathy for those who have prolonged ones. Can't imagine being in pain all that time.

OP, hope you're holding your beautiful baby in your arms very soon.

ICanTuckMyBoobsInMyPockets · 03/12/2011 00:36

Thanks Jayney, choc chip cookie?

SaggyoldCHRISTMASHUMBUGcatpuss · 03/12/2011 00:39

I reckon that ECC has had the baby, and is all cuddled up snug. She would have been back by now otherwise! I wonder how Nickel and Iggly and Hugo are getting on?
