Beginnings of labour? Should I feel this bulge down below?!

My due date is today. Already had a ds (20mo). Woke up with chronic back ache and cramps at the top of the thighs, chilled out today with my TENS machine (having a home birth so not much else to do). The pain has subsided to be a bit dull, but I am suddenly acutely aware of a bulge in my fanjo. It feels as though there is a grapefruit pressing against it from the other side...could this be the head and is it normal to feel this? Or could it be my waters?

Ds was an easy labour (woke up 10 cms gone and literally began to push whole ordeal was over in a few hours) so I "missed" the beginnings of labour and have no idea what I should be expecting. I know not to bother my midwife to come out until I have contractions/a show (have rung to let her know I'm feeling a bit weird though).

Is it normal?

I reckon so too. The last thing on her mind will be bleary eyed women on t'internet !!!
Hope all is well with them all anyway!!

HugosGoatee · 03/12/2011 00:56

Saggy Shock not in labour here! Made a possibly misjudged joke about being in transition earlier but only in relation to being short-tempered!

ECC must have had her baby by now, surely?!

randommoment · 03/12/2011 01:04

Hope there are some babies come the morning. ATB to all you labouring mummies out there everywhere.

RickGhastley · 03/12/2011 01:08

Am hoping that no news from OP means that baby has arrived!

CumpyGruntWithJinglyBellsOn · 03/12/2011 01:21

Good luck ECC x

ExquisiteChristmasCake · 03/12/2011 01:37

Just woken in absolute agony. Ringing midwife this baby clearly doesn't fucking exist otherwise it would have come out by now. No "strong" contractions but my body is slightly bearing down again. Might have another bath before waking dh. Petrified that she turns up and says 7.5cms now Sad am wide awake now so will be around.

Iggly could have had ten babies in the time it's taken me to have one! So bloody unfair.

I've been lurking so far but I wanted to say you've been amazing....good luck!

MsCellophane · 03/12/2011 01:45

You are doing brilliantly and don't forget that!!

To get to 7cm alone, being calm enough to allow your body to sleep - you have been amazing

Hopefully it won't be long now, call the midwife and find a way to stay calm and relaxed. Have the bath but phone midwife and wake H first. Get H to make tea or coffee or get you some water or anything you want. Maybe have sugary drink or some sugary food (if you can stomach it) It will give you some more energy for the next stage of bringing baby into the world

It really shouldn't be long now, you've done so well

RickGhastley · 03/12/2011 01:48

You are doing so well, keep going!!!

Defo call the midwife and get some G&A if you can.

Won't be long now, I promise!

fionamaryan · 03/12/2011 01:48

Hi, have been following yr thread here in Canada. You are doing so well! Get the mw round PDQ...this is soooo exciting - yeehah ! SmileSmileSmile

JayneyMack · 03/12/2011 01:49

Ah Ecc, try to stay strong.

I think its a great idea to call mw, sounds like you are having a back to back labour. Hopefully she can do something to help/reassure you.

NB make the most of this perfect chocolate opportunity Grin

brighthair · 03/12/2011 02:03

Good luck (am still awake pressing refresh!) Grin

hiccymapops · 03/12/2011 02:03

Ecc you're doing brilliantly. Won't be long now till you're snuggling your little newborn Smile.
Definately ring the midwife and get some gas and air. You're nearly there now.

AND WAKE DH UP!! Don't suffer alone Grin

ExquisiteChristmasCake · 03/12/2011 02:31

Fuck this really hurts

brighthair · 03/12/2011 02:35

I was going to say deep breaths and blow the pain away, but maybe I should just offer some wine instead? Grin
Is the pain in your back?

scarletforya · 03/12/2011 02:36

Yes, wake him up ...hope midwife comes soon x

hiccymapops · 03/12/2011 02:37

Have you got something to bite down on? I think I soaked a cushion with dd, helped muffly groaning and gritting something. Your doing fantastic, i know it sounds crap, but the pain is getting you closer to the end Smile

Papyrus · 03/12/2011 02:37

Have you called the Midwife ECC? She could bring some gas and air out to you, even if you feel you don't need her there yet. You're doing amazingly well!

Birnamwood · 03/12/2011 02:39

You're doing really well!

have you called the Mw? sounds like you need some g&a.

Keep mobile and remember to breathe

come on, you can do it

MrsJoeDuffy · 03/12/2011 02:40

you are amazing! Ring the midwife, or get OH to do it.

SacreLao · 03/12/2011 02:52

You are doing so well, not long now I'm sure.

brighthair · 03/12/2011 03:01

Have to go to bed now, am sure when I check in the morning you will have had baby and be snuggled in bed, hopefully with tea and toast
