Beginnings of labour? Should I feel this bulge down below?!

My due date is today. Already had a ds (20mo). Woke up with chronic back ache and cramps at the top of the thighs, chilled out today with my TENS machine (having a home birth so not much else to do). The pain has subsided to be a bit dull, but I am suddenly acutely aware of a bulge in my fanjo. It feels as though there is a grapefruit pressing against it from the other side...could this be the head and is it normal to feel this? Or could it be my waters?

Ds was an easy labour (woke up 10 cms gone and literally began to push whole ordeal was over in a few hours) so I "missed" the beginnings of labour and have no idea what I should be expecting. I know not to bother my midwife to come out until I have contractions/a show (have rung to let her know I'm feeling a bit weird though).

Is it normal?

I have just done the same. Hope you are resting and that you get that gas and air exactly when you need it,

MollyMurphy · 02/12/2011 20:56

Wow OP you are one cool customer - I'd be freaking out without the MW there at this point. Just remember hun, all pregancies are different - you don't want to be caught by surprise and not have her around to deal with potential problems. Give her some time too incase there is traffic or whatever.

Wishing you the very best! I don't know you...but I'm very excited for you nontheless. Ahhh the power of the internet Grin

CarrieInAnotherTWOBabiTWINS · 02/12/2011 20:58

er to clarify, who is about to have a baby at any moment?

im losing track!

good luck to all

aledwasago · 02/12/2011 21:04

Our very own One Born Every Minute, how fab!!

Good luck girls!

OhDoAdmitMrsDeVere · 02/12/2011 21:04

DS3 was born to Bandwagon on TCM. I had been watching musicals all day. It was fab.

I wanted to listen to R4 with DS4 but it got late so it was the blood world service and I didnt feel it fair to make the MW sit throught that. I put magic FM on and I ended up screaming fuuuuuuuuuuuuuuccccccccck just as my neice was warbling on the radio and her cousin missed out being born to her tune by about 4 minutes. It would have been a neat story dammit. Grin

chocolatchaud · 02/12/2011 21:06

Gah I wanted an early night, but that's not going to happen now!

Good luck ladies Xmas Grin

maxybrown · 02/12/2011 21:11

I remember walking round and flapping my hands as if I was some kind of pigeon doing a mad panicky dance everytime I had a contraction (before I got in the pool) so a pirate grimace sounds great! Grin

The only really bad thing is, I now notice myself doing it when I am deserate for the loo Blush great Hmm

Wolfiefan · 02/12/2011 21:12

Right I have a glass of wine and I'm not moving until someone has a baby dammit.....oh ok I may have to move and get another glass :-o

Wolfiefan · 02/12/2011 21:20

morethemerrier · 02/12/2011 21:21

I'm saying 10.16pm, boy, 9.3lb xxx

MrsChristmasDB · 02/12/2011 21:34

samwells

Same as an exercise ball, you can use it during labour to sit/bounce on to relieve pressure.

PANCHEY · 02/12/2011 21:36

Ball did not do anything for me.

OhDoAdmitMrsDeVere · 02/12/2011 21:40

I wish I had discovered the ball before DC5. It was brilliant. Meant I could sit down during a contraction and didnt have to keep getting up and down all the bloody time.
