Beginnings of labour? Should I feel this bulge down below?!

My due date is today. Already had a ds (20mo). Woke up with chronic back ache and cramps at the top of the thighs, chilled out today with my TENS machine (having a home birth so not much else to do). The pain has subsided to be a bit dull, but I am suddenly acutely aware of a bulge in my fanjo. It feels as though there is a grapefruit pressing against it from the other side...could this be the head and is it normal to feel this? Or could it be my waters?

Ds was an easy labour (woke up 10 cms gone and literally began to push whole ordeal was over in a few hours) so I "missed" the beginnings of labour and have no idea what I should be expecting. I know not to bother my midwife to come out until I have contractions/a show (have rung to let her know I'm feeling a bit weird though).

Is it normal?

Olivia if you're in charge of delivering my baby please ignore the Stargate SG comment below Grin

Yes Pinot! Am labouring apparently and by fuck I am uncomfortable! Sorry haven't been on Twitter. Each contraction makes me close one eye and grimace like a pirate. I can't imagine I look attractive doing it Grin

Oh, ignore me, I am just unreasonable excited for you!

You get some rest Smile

nickelbabe · 02/12/2011 19:53

that's definitely transition then - going from your DH being so annoying you want to kill him and feeling les annoyed with him Grin

i agree with the MW - you need to sleep while you can (you never know how tiring the birth will be)

sorry i was so grumpy earlier.

ISawPINOTSnoggingSantaClaus · 02/12/2011 19:55

Sleep for a bit love and will check in later - hoping baby pirate has slim shoulders and it all goes well x

GloriaTheHighlyFlavouredLady · 02/12/2011 19:59

Maybe you're in transition nickelbabe?

usingapseudonym · 02/12/2011 20:07

I've been unbelievably grumpy with my husband this evening (and after apologising warned him it will get worse in labour grin.) Can I be in transition too - please?!

nickelbabe · 02/12/2011 20:09

Gloria that would be fab if i'd reached the first stage yet Grin

vigglewiggle · 02/12/2011 20:11

I'm not even pregnant, but my DH ate all my Cola Bottles and I now reckon I'm in transition Grin.

Wolfiefan · 02/12/2011 20:18

Nickel my first was late (shan't piss you off with a story of how late). Each day was like a week so you can be as grumpy as you like girl.

Never mind napping! I want to see pirate face. Come on you baby! Pom pom waving!

FoxyRevenger · 02/12/2011 20:23

OhDoAdmitMrsDeVere · 02/12/2011 20:27

I was coming back expecting to see that you were telling us the weight and sex [humph]

Do come on love. Some of us arent having any more babies and this is how we get our baby kicks Grin !

morethemerrier · 02/12/2011 20:31

I gave birth to Jim Bowens Bullseye!!! As it was MIL choice and it felt rude to ask her to turn over! Hmm

It was actually at the point of running through the prizes that DD head was crowning, all I could hear was, "and Bullys special priiizzzeee"!!!

Grin
HugosGoatee · 02/12/2011 20:33

I'm in transition. DH was meant to pick up fish and chips Angry

Have a nice snooze Exquisite!

morethemerrier · 02/12/2011 20:34

Just reread that, and wanted to clarify that I did not give birth to Jim Bowens Bullseye, it was the programme on TV!!! Grin

samwellsbutt · 02/12/2011 20:34

oh my goodness just read this all expecting baby but not yet. wow well done for being so calm, but i think you should get the midwife out with the gas and air. i remember the pressure build up and it was defo the precursor to the big event.
but we have all been pretty wrong so far lol.
you know your body best.
good luck we will be waiting with baited breath.

No way! I've just read this whole thread and I'm hooked! Good luck! My dc2 was born at home, unexpected-just me and DH! All of a sudden I got the urge to push and 3 mins later she was here! I'll be attached to my phone for the rest of the night now!!!
