My ds3 is Finlay, which can be shortened to Fin when we like.

Good choice!

somethingsexyandLYcRAinmystock · 14/12/2005 14:48

apparently it means sunbeam in Irish, which is very cute.

allycotownofbethlehem · 14/12/2005 14:50

Like Finlay, Finn, Finnian (maybe that's going a bit too far?)

Olivia is not common - my DD would be distraught if you said that. Mind you she is 13 and when we gave her her name nearly everyone was saying "ooh how unusual, that's a strange name" etc. etc.

hunkermunker · 14/12/2005 14:50

Miaou, I have CATd you

mazzystar · 14/12/2005 14:51

is my ds middle name
so i like it
olivia's classy! not common... there are quite a lot around, but fewer than all the rubys, eleanors and megans.....

MIstletAOU · 14/12/2005 16:51

Aw thanks hunker! Dh is hogging the laptop so I will check later

Pagan · 14/12/2005 16:53

I have a Finn and he's soooooo handsome, even at 11 months but I am biased of course.

expatinscotland · 14/12/2005 16:59

I like it. It was our 'boy' name when we had DD!.

guzzler · 14/12/2005 17:46

I like Finlay too, its one of those names that you can imagine suiting a baby as well as a toddler/school child/grown up... prefer it to Fraser personally...

Olivia is quite common round here too but is a beautiful name, what about Olive for something similar yet a bit unusual.

Am also considering Esme for a girl but get a really mixed reaction - see thread posted a few down...

Gemmitygem · 15/12/2005 06:20

What about Phineas (Phin for short)..

PantomimEDAMe · 15/12/2005 08:51

No, but I like Finn. Wouldn't go for Finbar either ? there was a character in Vizz magazine called Finbar Saunders and his double entendres.

fisiltoe · 15/12/2005 09:00

Hurrah! Ds1's name mentioned TWICE on the same thread. How good is that? (of course he was the only one in the world when we named him!)

He's never yet been shortened to Fin, but we call him Finti a lot.

LittleMissRACHEYXmasBigTits · 15/12/2005 10:18

I love Finn, it is my number one choice for ds3 due in 3 weeks - I like the Irish Finn Macool warrior legend. I don't know any round here (S.Wales) have talked dp round to Finlay/Finley but I think we would just call him Finn all the time so trying to shift him! My dad is Irish and in gaelic it's Fionn really - 'fair warrior' (but round here that is a Welsh girl's name so we can't spell it that way). Finlay feels a little too Scottish for us (being Irish/English/Welsh), Finley is English version I think (Finley Quaye?)

We are struggling to find a middle name to go with Finn - any suggestions please? (It can't end in an -on/an sound because of our surname)

DingDongMerrilyOnHIGHLANDER · 15/12/2005 11:00

I like Calum or Liam. My DS is Euan. Finn is cool - isn't there a Norwegian version with slightly different spelling?

littlemissbossy · 15/12/2005 11:21

Unfortunately, that name reminds me of a local Finlay - whos a pain, sorry
At the end of the day, have whatever name YOU like and stuff what everyone else thinks

Pagan · 15/12/2005 14:06

My Finn's middle name is Andrew after his Granpa. When put together with his very Scottish last name it sounds lovely. Do you want an exotic middle name or something more traditional?

OnZephyrstDayofXmas · 15/12/2005 14:07

My Fin is Finlay Alexander

paolosgirl · 15/12/2005 14:07

Finlay Clarkes is the name of a garden centre round here, so can't hear of it without thinking of that, for some reason. Love Finn though...

MIstletAOU · 15/12/2005 14:08

Calum is a totally cool name. And so is Finnian.

hunkermunker · 15/12/2005 14:10

I like Calum too, Miaou

And Finnian's good. Hmm...

MIstletAOU · 15/12/2005 14:12

Oh yes, particularly like the name Fraser as well

MIstletAOU · 15/12/2005 14:12

I wanted ds to be Finnian so we would have Caitlin (Cake Tin), Eilish (Eyelash) and Finnian (Onion)

mean mummy

dewberry1 · 15/12/2005 14:13

pagan..if a ds he may be called finlay paul..as thats dh middle name..what do you think?? xx

OP posts:
Pagan · 15/12/2005 14:17

That sounds great - for some reason it has a familiar ring to it but I can't think why

LittleMissRACHEYXmasBigTits · 15/12/2005 14:53

Am loving Finn Alexander - prefer traditional middle name to give baby choice when he's older! Like Calum but it's my nephew's name, Paul is dp's father so becoming partisan! Have to watch the x's as ds2 is Max and there's an x in his surname too.
