Did anyone get pregnant following acupuncture?

Hello - have shuffled over from Conception as I thought you actually updiffed ladies might be better placed to help on this one . I have my first acupuncture appointment on Monday, having read good things about it (like this) helping those of us having a touch of difficulty with the whole "getting pregnant" lark. However, I have now read something (this) which seems to suggest it might actually be a waste of time and money. I know that relying on some "Guardian v Telegraph" debate on the benefits is probably not the wisest course of action, but I hoped that someone here might be able to tell me either good or bad stories about acupuncture to help with conception? Thanks so much.

I haven't used it to get pregnant but I used it both for nasty morning sickness in one pg and to bring on labour in the other two. It certainly reduced the sickness and in both the other cases, labour started within 6hours (with DD2 it started within 1hour)
I know this is slightly different but still gynae related IYKWIM so IME it was doing/triggering something in those parts.

BTW, I used someone who was registered and trained in fertility and pregnancy acupuncture.

It seemed to do the trick for me. I started going to acupuncture after a MC with cycles that seemed to be getting longer and longer every month. I went once a week, and within two months my cycles were back to 28 days and ovulating on day 14. Next month I got a BFP. Of course all this might well be co-incidence or the placebo effect. I don't think it matters though - if you feel like you're doing something positive to help yourself I think it really helps your chances of conceiving. I also felt much better in myself as I'd been feeling quite low and generally unwell before I started going - I am a complete convert to acupuncture now. There are some acupuncturists that specialise in fertility, I think it's worth looking out for a specialist. There's some information written by the acupuncturist I see here

Also, it's worth having a read of Emma Cannon's 'The Baby Making Bible' - it combines a chinese medicine and western approach to fertility and is very interesting.

Thanks, both - that's reassuring, I was worried I was about to be conned by some madman jabbing me with needles . Thanks for the book recommendation as well, pink. I think you're right, that taking some action, even if it might not work in itself, at least makes you feel better and might help.

I fell pregnant after having accupuncture too. It only took us 2 months of trying to fall pregnant with DS1 but took about a year the 2nd time and that ended up as a miscarriage (at 7 weeks). I had regular periods and knew exactly when I was ovulating. A couple of months after I miscarried I decided to give accunpuncture a try and saw someone who also specialises in fertility.
I only had 2 sessions, a couple of weeks apart and conceived between the 2 appointments!! I ended up having twins though so be warned!! Good luck if you decide to give it a try and fingers crossed it works for you :)

Yes me!!! I went to a lovely lady called Jackie based on the Wirral, she is Zita West trained, and can be found via Zitas web site along with a list of other fertility trained acupuncturists.

I had 3 concecutive losses previously, and Jackie worked with me to re-balance my hormones...two sessions later I was pregnant again...and am currently 34 weeks so obviously I can't recommend it enough!!!.

I used acupuncture alongside IVF - and again it could be placebo, but the IVF worked first time. And that was after being told I had less than 2% chance. I'm having it still occasionally throughout pregnancy as a support. If nothing else I like the 20 minutes or so with nothing to do or think.....

Fluter, can I ask which clinic told you that you had a 2% chance of success and then went on to treat you? Am
Interested in clinic success rates.

After ttc for 18 months and 3 rounds of clomid with no success I got my BFP after weekly acupuncture sessions. Also read and followed a lot of the advice from the baby making bible. Don't know for certain that the acupuncture helped but definitely helped me feel better about myself, more relaxed and have continued my sessions (although not weekly anymore) throughout my pg. Am now 37 weeks and although we had a rocky first trimester the rest of my pg has been fab. Good luck.

Hello! I just wondered - any of you ladies who go pregnant whilst having/after acupuncture - did your acupuncturist pick up on any changes in your 'pulse' which indicated pregnancy? For my last two sessions my acupuncturist has detected a 'slippery' middle pulse and says it is usually present in pregnancy, but told me not to rush out and buy a hpt!

I used acupuncture with my clomid treatment, just a standard acupuncturist but knew about fertility and pregnancy. Pregnant on the first round, even though I will always be unsure of about how helpful it was in fertility I know it helped a lot with the stress of TTC.

btw acupuncture is great for shortening your cycle, in my case I was having 38-42 day cycles before treatment and then after 1 cycle with acupuncture I ovulated on cd 14 and got my bfp on cd26.

A good friend of mine did. She'd had trouble conceiving and then two MC. She had 1 acupuncture treatment and conceived 2 weeks later.

Hi I had acupuncture before conceiving, I found it made my cycles more regular and I think it helped with conceiving, even though it's impossible to prove that. My acupuncturist is a fertility specialist but she never mentioned a slippery middle pulse when I was pg.

Sort of. We didn't have any fertility problems but I had it from about month 3 of ttc as I had a feeling my hormones were imbalanced. They were and she fixed them! I stayed until I got pregnant and up to 14 weeks and would recommend it heartily. I had barely any unpleasant symptoms- no sickness etc. I credit acupuncture for this.

My acupuncturist is a fertility specialist and does a lot of treatment to IVF patients. Apparently it's prescribed alongside IVF as it increases chances

After 12 months of trying I had a month of acupuncture with Chinese herbs and also some counselling which focussed on possible emotional blocks. I got pregnant at the end of that month. No idea if coincidence or not. I didn't 'believe' in the acupuncture at all and was just trying it as I was desperate. If I was to try to conceive again I'd definitely do the counselling. I'm not 'touchy feely' at all but everything seemed to mentally click after two sessions. Good luck

I had accupuncture weekly after I'd had 4 miscarriages I did this for 3 months until my body was "repaired" as such then once I was pregnant I went weekly until 12 weeks to try and sustain the pregnancy then the gaps between appointments got longer and she would help with morning sickness and pelvic pain. The lady I used specialised in fertility I think that's important she was also Zita West trained I would definately reccommend it

Hello! I had acupuncture following a couple of miscarriages, lap & dye and Ovarian Diathermy (MC No.2 was after the op). I felt it was something I needed to try, and found someone locally who had experience in that area. The experience was beneficial in that I felt like I was doing something positive to conceive. I did have a period soon after my first treatment, which gave me hope, but I couldn't say for sure that it was because of the acupuncture. It was expensive, so I got myself onto a cash back health plan and was able to claim most of the money back on that. I was put on Chlomid soon after and conceived first time, then was put on progesterone pessaries. I'm now 37+ 2 and have just started maternity leave :0)

I tried a Zita West trained acupuncturist for a few of my many IVF cycles over 18years. Also tried Bowen therapy.

The IVF worked on a completely natural cycle with no alternative or medical intervention. I'm glad I tried though.

As for clinics success rates....I gave up interpreting them as it's basically 50/50. Either works or it doesn't.

I've started acupuncture sessions...Acupuncturist said me as i need from the beginning around 10 sessions...Hopefully it will work for me...!Thanks everyone for nice suggestions!

I had a couple of cycles of IVF with acupunture, but the one that worked I didn't. However, the lady doing the acupuncture (who specialised in fertility) clained she had a very high success rate prob didn't help that I've got a needle phobia

Yes we have been TTC for 2years and after approximately 10x acupuncture appointments I am finally pregnant! I believe acupuncture made my periods get back to normal and made me feel much more calm too. Good luck!
