Waters have broken at 28 weeks - we're in America!

I've come over to the US for a two week holiday to my partner's family. No problems at all in this pregnancy (my first). Then yesterday morning the waters broke! I've been admitted to a local hospital and although me and baby are fine we'll be here for the duration. It's likely to be three months! Baby could come any time between now and full term so we're keeping everything crossed (including my legs of course) it stays in as long as possible. Either way we're not able to fly home for a looong time...

Our baby will be coming back to the UK an American citizen - how about that? Shock Grin Confused

Pray the insurance works out for us!!

Glad to hear the monitoring may be reduced and you are able to roam a bit further Smile. I was only in for 5 days but absconded on about Day 3 to watch the emergency helicopter land in the park next to the hospital Grin

I did Smile about bunny-in-a-rabbit-car Smile. Just a thought, if you feel up to it, could you write a little journal from the viewpoint of bunny, as a keepsake for baby? May be easier to express stuff from a 3rd person perspective, rather than writing it as you?

Congrats FannyBaws on baby Cormac. Hope he is home with you soon Smile

Just marking my place and wishing you well!!

you sound in good spirit and baby and you are doing so well!

tadjennyp · 07/01/2011 04:26

How are things going now?

girlsyearapart · 07/01/2011 07:01

Hi southsea just checking in to send love from the gya household!

I had a week on the ward whilst pg with dd3 it's not fun at all on those monitors is it?

I do regularly thank our lucky stars that my nephew was the first born as it meant we could all rally round without worrying about caring for siblings/cousins.

So while it's totally rotten luck for this to happen with your first at least you can totally focus on him/her when they are born.

I have an iPhone which is 16gb don't know about iPad really.
Wonder if you could watch BBC i player or 4od on it though? That would keep you feeling closet to home.

Great your brother is coming to visit. Is there no chance of your mum making it over? She must be so worried poor thing.

Chin up you can do it x

Emoo · 07/01/2011 10:15

*Southsea" - hope you are getting on okay. Your "doing a Mrs Doyle" made me laugh Grin

lowra · 07/01/2011 12:02

Just want to send my good wishes too. I've just hit 28 weeks so I'm at a similar stage to you.

Sounds like you are getting great care, best of luck to you and your little one.

Southsearocks · 07/01/2011 16:40

hi! i`m calling in from my KINdle! can you tell Grin

i have a feeling things are afoot. Could be completely wrong and hope so, but the monitor is showing dips now and nurse says they have been amazed not to see these sooner. so this could be thr start of a change in the babys presentation. Im quite excited.

at the same time very happy to stay here longer . much better now a bit more freedom ut wouln`t you know it, no sooner off the close monitoring when things start to change. It's probably due to baby getting bigger and squashing the cord. leaked a lot this morning too.

It's 11.30am so lunch will be here any minute (im not joking!) It snowed this morning . is so pretty out there...

Will try to give you an updayt later when its less flipping effort!! xxx

What does it mean when the monitor shows dips? That you're going into labour?

Hope lunch is something tasty!

Just caught up on recent events Southsea. I'm glad the monitoring is going to be reduced. I think you appear to be holding up really well, it can't be much fun at all being stuck in bed like that. I keep updating DH on your story too. I am 14 weeks with no. 3 so feeling quite emotional following your story.

Southsearocks · 07/01/2011 18:21

should have said, a dip means the baby is resting on the umbilical cord so reduces heart beats. its more likely when theres no fluid to allow the cord to float. if it happens too often or if the dips are large it will be time to rescue baba! midwife not too concerned so im not either just yet.

Wow, just found and read this thread. My cousin had a DS at 24 weeks and a DD at 23, and they are both strapping 4 and 5 year olds now despite being teeny when they were born.
I wish I could do more than send you my best wishes, hope to read a :) update soon x

geordieminx · 07/01/2011 19:37

You are doing amazingly well southsea. It's so lovely reading your updates!

Hope you have a peaceful weekend.

banana87 · 07/01/2011 20:19

You are doing so well Southsea. Best of luck and I am sure bubba will be just fine. Very jealous as I am American and would have loved to give birth in the US!! :)

CrispyTheCrisp · 07/01/2011 20:30

Yay for the kindle - is that a new hozzie present to yourself? Just think of all the money you are saving on food and heating at home, it will more than have paid for itself Wink

Sorry to hear there has been more leaking, but fingers x'd baby stays put comfortably for a little longer Smile. Hope you have a good weekend and get to see DH a bit more. We played cards incessantly but it passed the time

CointreauVersial · 07/01/2011 20:36

Wow, what a story. Hang on in there!

I'll be checking back to see how you are getting on, but no premie experience to offer, I'm afraid.

Twit · 07/01/2011 21:08

Just adding my best wishes to you all, you seem to be coping really well. Good luck! Smile

tadjennyp · 07/01/2011 22:30

Hang on southsea - enjoy your kindle!

Cadmum · 08/01/2011 01:37

Enjoy your new toy. Ii hope things continue to go well and that baby hangs on another wee while.

allyfe · 08/01/2011 07:18

How is the new monitoring regime going? I hope that the heart rate dip hasn't meant you are back to the hours in a row of being hooked up.

It is fabulous that your oh can wora remotely. IT must be such a relief for you both.

Are your waters still replenishing?

ANd do let us know what the doctors say about your pain relief options.

fannybaws · 08/01/2011 08:02

Morning southsea hope baby is continuing to sit in there happily without too many dips on the trace. The kindle sounds good I am being saved by my iPhone while in here. We are in a mum and baby room so no passing traffic to watch but am using facebook loads, and really feel that people are around iykwim:) cormac is now on double phototherapy and I am really hoping his next results are better or he might need an exchange transfusion. He is still feeding well though and after initially losing he managed to put on 30 g in 24 hours. I feel like he deserves a medal!
Just realised you are probably fast asleep.... Just think every day your little one will be getting more mature and able to cope when the day does arrive xx

CheerfulYank · 08/01/2011 08:14

Hi Southsea! I'm in America and wish I could come keep you company, but Minnesota is too far from Philly. :( You sound like you're doing well thought and I really hope they're taking good care of you!

Best of luck.

HermyaLovesLysander · 08/01/2011 08:51

Morning Southsea!!!

I'm glad things are going well. Lunch at 1130am, my word they like to eat early don't they. Good thing they're letting you roam free a bit more now.

SarahScot · 08/01/2011 10:03

FannyBaws, congratulations on baby Cormac, I hope he continues to do well. How long do they think you'll have to stay in?

With a name like FannyBaws I assume you are Scottish/in Scotland? I'm in Fife. I'm sure you've got family and friends helping out, but just in case you don't, do you need anything brought/sent to you?

iwasyoungonce · 08/01/2011 10:25
