Waters have broken at 28 weeks - we're in America!

I've come over to the US for a two week holiday to my partner's family. No problems at all in this pregnancy (my first). Then yesterday morning the waters broke! I've been admitted to a local hospital and although me and baby are fine we'll be here for the duration. It's likely to be three months! Baby could come any time between now and full term so we're keeping everything crossed (including my legs of course) it stays in as long as possible. Either way we're not able to fly home for a looong time...

Our baby will be coming back to the UK an American citizen - how about that? Shock Grin Confused

Pray the insurance works out for us!!

How did I miss this thread?

Have read it through now, and you're a real trooper. Fingers crossed everything goes all right.

If you're able to get out and about at all before going home, go to Target and get lots of lovely baby stuff there, for a reasonable price.

Love to you all.

Teaandcakeplease · 05/02/2011 20:46

Good luck Smile Very late to the thread and it's taken me over an hour to read it. Looking forward to hearing about the birth of this lovely baby.

mum295 · 05/02/2011 20:53

Just wanted to add my best wishes, Southsea and to say thank you again for advice on travel insurance on another thread. Good luck x

Sparklies · 05/02/2011 22:44

Just waving hello! Enjoy these last few days - you're pretty lucky in one way as most people don't ever know when their last few days are before they welcome their first child :)

Seconding Target - fantastic shop. They need one here in the UK. And Old Navy, and Carters and.. ah, the list could go on forever. I love American shops so much, even with a crap exchange rate!

And thanks also to Jasmine for explaining air ambulances.. boo, no tiny helicopter!!

ReadingTeaLeaves · 05/02/2011 22:53

Good luck from another (mostly) lurker. Seriously in awe of your patience over the last few weeks.

allyfe · 05/02/2011 22:56

Just a little note to say OMG about your DP! Hope he is doing okay and has been taking his pain medication.

I can't believe that we are so close to your 34 weeks and induction date! Having followed this thread from the beginning, all I can say is well done for managing it so amazingly well and I hope that everything goes as smoothly as possible on Monday, or from Monday! I'm looking forward to hearing about it and what pebble's name is going to be.

Lots of luck.

CrispyTheCrisp · 05/02/2011 23:25

Wow, induction tomorrow - that is fantastic Smile. Well done you for making it so far. Sorry to hear about DP trying to outdo you in the hospital stakes though Grin. I really hope his leg improves without more costly intervention.

Regarding breastfeeding, yes it can hurt and 'ouch' when the milk comes in, but if you can persevere it is SO worth it. I had to express and feed both of mine (prem/CS) but they got the hang of BF just fine and carried on for a year. Many people swear by Lanisoh to help any cracking, but i just used vaseline

Enjoy your last night of calm and have a virtual Wine

Jacksmama · 06/02/2011 03:23

It's nearly 10:30 pm where you are... I hope you're sleeping. If you're awake and feel like comtributing to my thread, I'd love it. No responses so far... its a question about ignoring gut feelings. I thought I'd get tons of responses but I must do really boring threads Blush

Did you have a good day? How was the Glee marathon? :o

Oh, BTW re breastfeeding, yes, until your nipples get used to such rough treatment, it can be a bit sore... but it's the loveliest thing to nurse your baby [melting emoticon].

Artichokes · 06/02/2011 07:54

I've just been lurking but want to wish you lots of luck for tomorrow. I wasinduced early with number one and it can take a while so have some good distractions lined up. We played trivial pursuit which made the doctors laugh.

In like the name Phineus. I think Julia Roberts used it for her son

Re breastfeeding: I'm sure you know this but at 34 weeks your baby may not have fully developed a suck reflex and may need tube feeding for a few days. You can express during this period and introduce the breast when the baby is ready. I'm sure there are some useful threads on here about successfully breastfeeding preemies.

GoAwaySnow · 06/02/2011 10:01

Another long time lurker here popping in to wish you well.

mum2JRC · 06/02/2011 10:05

I've been following your post since I posted in the early pages.
I hope it all goes well tomorrow. I was induced with both my boys at term but unfortunately did not progress so needed a C-Section.

I would of thought your be monitored with the machine throughout but remember you can still get on the gym ball etc still attached to the machine.

Good luck Smile

chimchar · 06/02/2011 10:09

great to see your baby has stayed put for so long...bet it plays funny buggers tomorrow and doesn't want to come out!!! Wink

wishing you lots of luck for tomorrow and looking forward to hearing of the safe arrival of phineus or jemima! (both lush names btw!)

enjoy your last day of rest for a while. x

tattyteddy · 06/02/2011 10:50

Wishing you the best of luck for tomorrow xx

eatyourveg · 06/02/2011 10:56

Wishing you all the best over the coming hours. been lurking since the beginning - looking forward to hear the outcome. You have done so well to have made it to now.

Takes me back to when ds1 was born at 33wks - 3.5lbs but a real screamer. so didn't need a lot of intervention. Hoping you have a screamer too though you may not want to wish it but showed us he had a healthy pair of lungs!

banana87 · 06/02/2011 11:13

Good luck today Southsea! Hope you everything goes really well and you are holding your little Pebble soon!
