What time of day did your waters break?

I was just wondering if there was an average time of day for the waters to break/you go into labour?

My mom's waters broke in the early hours of the morning with both my sister and I, and this seems to be true for most people I have spoken to (well late at night, early hours !)

My husband is a little concerned that his commute to work is just over an hour door to door and he doesn't want me to be on my own! (he is a bit of a worrier!) I have to go to hospital as soon as I go into labour so there's no waiting at home for a while!

I know it's completely random but I just wondered other peoples times........

(Can you tell I don't have a lot to do today?! Actually I have heaps to do, just nothing I want to do!!)

mine went just before I gave birth. However, I had the first twinges of labour at midnight each of the three times.

With DS they didn't break - MW did it for me

With DD they broke at 8.12 pm and i had her at 8.18 pm!

Apparently 9/10 women are already having contractions by the time their waters break so chances are they won't go unexpectedly. But as one of the 1/10 of women whose waters break first, here's my experience!:

DC1: 7pm
DC2: 4pm
DC3: 10.30pm

I don't know if this is true or not but I'm told most women go into labour overnight i.e they wake up in the small hours in labour.

8pm (DS1 born 5.20pm 2 days later) and 10pm (DS2 born 5am following morning).

compo · 27/08/2010 13:37

Same as soupy

first time was in hospital

Second time at home just before giving birth in hospital about twenty minutes later, lol

for a first timer it'll happen slower so don't worry
the midwife often breaks the waters in hospital

sheeplikessleep · 27/08/2010 13:37

Both mine were before any contractions started.

mousymouse · 27/08/2010 13:38

at exactly 3 am both times, contractions started later.

NoTeaForMe · 27/08/2010 13:38

That's what I thought Owl wondered how much truth was in it!
I guess really my question is what time of day did you go into labour rather than when did your waters break as I know waters aren't always the first sign, if they break at all!

dc1 and dc3 - waters broke in labour (all quite near the end, when getting to the pushing stage).
dc2 - waters broke in the evening (lateish but can't remember exactly, after 10pm) ds born 4 days later!
dc4 - waters went at 7.30pm ds born 12 hours later.

nunnie · 27/08/2010 13:49

My waters broke at pushing stage.

nunnie · 27/08/2010 13:51

Forgot to say at 12.15am, dd was born at 2.20am.

MiniMarmite · 27/08/2010 14:37

9 p.m (on the Friday of the August bank holiday weekened funnily enough) at my neighbours dinner table Blush...DS was born on Monday morning.

Early labour started at about 11p.m.

ILoveDonaldDraper · 27/08/2010 14:41

apparently you produce more oxcytocin in the dark, so that is why you are more likely to go into labour at night. Apparently, most animals go into labour at night for this reason. This information came from our NCT teacher though, and I often think she is talking rubbish........

caramellokoalalover · 27/08/2010 16:08

mine broke around 3am, woke up feeling a wet patch under me, stood up and whoosh all the way to the bathroom. contractions started an hour or so later, ds born 26hrs later.

roulade · 27/08/2010 16:44

Waters broke 2.20am
Contractions 5am
Emcs 39 hours from waters breaking!

cyteen · 27/08/2010 16:48

5.30pm on a Saturday afternoon. Labour didn't start till the early hours of Monday though Hmm DS born at 2.30pm on the Monday.

pirateparty · 27/08/2010 16:49

1am - woke me up, contractions started fairly soon afterwards. Ds born about 10 hours later.

Almost exactly the same as for my Mum with me.

DetectivePotato · 27/08/2010 19:15

My waters went first at 3.30am, contractions started at 4.00am.

SomeKindofWonderful · 27/08/2010 19:19

DD - they went at 5:00am.
DS - they were broken by MW at 11:16am, 19 mins before he was born.

SomeKindofWonderful · 27/08/2010 19:20

Sorry meant DD - 5am, born 18 hours later.

Xavielli · 27/08/2010 19:23

DS - just after midday (6 mins before he was born)

DD - 11.35am (born 3.11pm)

Tyson86 · 27/08/2010 19:25

1am on the dot. That was my first sign of labour, ds born at 20.20

lovecheese · 27/08/2010 19:25

dd1 and dd2 didnt; dd3 whilst I was in the hairdressers watching dd2 having her hair cut. First a spot, then a trickle, then a flood....the hairdresser's didnt give me any free haircuts though!

dastardlydoodah · 27/08/2010 19:28

My waters had to be broken by MW, and as soon as they were, DD literally shot down the birth canal (I felt her drop, very odd) and my excruciating 17hr back-to-back labour was over in 45 mins.

I went into labour at midnight on the dot, our NCT teacher told us what DonaldDraper says. But judging from all the responses here, you just never know...

Wholelottalove · 27/08/2010 19:30

My contractions started mid-morning, v slow stop/start labour so waters didn't go until the following evening at about 8pm, DD born 4 hours later.
