What time of day did your waters break?

I was just wondering if there was an average time of day for the waters to break/you go into labour?

My mom's waters broke in the early hours of the morning with both my sister and I, and this seems to be true for most people I have spoken to (well late at night, early hours !)

My husband is a little concerned that his commute to work is just over an hour door to door and he doesn't want me to be on my own! (he is a bit of a worrier!) I have to go to hospital as soon as I go into labour so there's no waiting at home for a while!

I know it's completely random but I just wondered other peoples times........

(Can you tell I don't have a lot to do today?! Actually I have heaps to do, just nothing I want to do!!)

Both early evening and in Dds case 2 days before she was born.

dastardlydoodah · 27/08/2010 19:32

NoTea, if this is your first birth (I'm assuming it is), it's unlikely that it will matter if your DH needs an hour to get to you. Though some women are different, the majority of first labours are much longer than you'd imagine, and progress fairly slowly.

You may also find that you want to be alone during the first stage, as some women do, or you might want lots of physical reassurance... You never know, really.

Wigeon · 27/08/2010 19:37

Went into labour at about 4am. DH was there Grin.

Can't remember my waters breaking, so it must have either not really happened, or happened when I was in hospital and having contractions 2 mins apart, and a jumbo jet might have crashed into the floor above and I wouldn't've noticed!

You might well get some little signs (a show, twinges etc) in the days before labour so that your DH knows to expect an imminent phone call. Do you have to go into hospital immediately for a medical reason?

PaulineCampbellJones · 27/08/2010 19:37

3am for me and gave birth 46 hours later!

Flighttattendant · 27/08/2010 19:40

ds1, 8.30pm ish - ctx followed within half an hour, born at 5am.

ds2, ctx started 7am, waters went 10.15ish, born at 10.30am.

BoojaB · 27/08/2010 19:47

1am on due date (very punctual!). She didn't pop out until 11.24am the following day though. Hours of fun in between. Confused

choufleur · 27/08/2010 19:49

They split very slightly at the top at about 4pm and contractions started seriously then. DS was born at 7.45pm in the membrane.

ChippyMinton · 27/08/2010 19:49

DS1 - about 9am following overnight induction. EMCS 5.30pm
DS2 - about 2am, contractions started about 2hrs later, he arrived 8.30am
DD - about 6am, contractions about an hour later she arrived about 10am.

Mine were all of the big 'pop', WTF was that? followed by a squelchy mess variety Grin

Poppet45 · 27/08/2010 19:50

Another early hours one here too. My waters partially went at 4am... on one of many late night trips to the loo. Looked spectacular so I thought they'd fully gone, but they hadn't. On midwive's advice went back to bed and contractions started strongly enough to get out of bed, around sixish I think. Midwife then broke my waters fully at 8pm that evening after I was at 10cm and the pushing wasn't getting us anywhere.... and um emergency c-section at 11.40pm. Apparently waters partially or fully breaking really early can be a sign of a malpositioned baby - because the head's not engaged to plug the gap! Was in my case as the little bugger got stuck occipital transverse - head sideways.

TequilaMockinBird · 27/08/2010 19:51

Mine went at 11pm .... and DD was born at 11.43pm!

Waters broke at 5.30am, first contraction 32 hours later, DD born 98.5 hours after waters broke!

BikeRunSki · 27/08/2010 22:00

11:29pm, 2 weeks before due date, no other indication of labour. DS, undiagnosed footling breech born by em CS at 6.27 am the next day. I was 8cm dilated.

Madasajarofwasps · 27/08/2010 22:12

DD1 3am, no contractions til the following afternoon and she arrived 3.30am the following morning.

DD2 3am, no contractions til the following afternoon, she arrived 9.30pm.

Spooky!!

Fizzylemonade · 27/08/2010 22:40

No contractions, no twinges, waters broke at 5.35am felt a pop when I was lay awake in bed, no water though. Thought, I might as well go for a wee as I'm awake, stood up and water gushed out along with mucus plug. Thank god for laminate flooring Grin I was 4 days overdue, contractions didn't start for about 5 hours after that.

PartialToACupOfMilo · 27/08/2010 22:46

Some went at 6am and the rest at about 4.30pm - baby arrived at 6.30pm

katiepotatie · 27/08/2010 22:57

midnight with ds,had just got into bed, he was born at 730am

SoLongAsItsHealthy · 27/08/2010 22:59

5:40am - it woke me up with a start when I felt the pop. Thank God for en suite bathroom. 6 days overdue. Contractions pretty much straight away (might have been having mild ones in the night I suppose). Baby came out 36 hrs later...

tequilacream · 21/04/2013 21:59

Did you sleep with some sort of waterproof protection in the run-up to due date? Bit worried about ruining the mattress...

Mehrida · 21/04/2013 22:15

4pm. In the hospital carpark. Five mins after walking out from an antenatal appt.

Right back round the carpark we jolly well went!

Told the midwife who'd just said cheerio, and she replied 'Now, are you sure? It's not just that the doc used a lot of gel for your internal?'.

Umm, no. DS arrived 11 hrs later.

LittleDirewolfBitJoffrey · 21/04/2013 22:37

With DD my waters broke at 8pm precisely, 3 1/2 hours after having a sweep. She was born the following day at 12:59 noon.
With DS my waters were broken to induce labour and they were broken at 5 past 10am. He was born at 14:19.

BikeRunSki · 21/04/2013 22:39

Waters breaking was the first sign of labour both times.
11.30pm and 3.05pm.
Both labours were then 7 hours to 10cm, and both ended in emcs at 10 cm.

nipersvest · 21/04/2013 22:40

with dd, 9pm while i was laying on the sofa watching tv, with ds they didn't go and had to be broken by the midwife, although i asked her to do it as i felt it was holding things up. it worked as i went from 4cm to fully dilated very quickly and he was out in 3 pushes.

About 12.30pm in the middle of town on a very busy bank holiday Saturday. Stood on a corner in a 'puddle' while DH went off to get the car. Contractions started after about 2hrs, and DS born at 5.30pm.

NoTeaForMe · 22/04/2013 10:50

How funny, this is my old thread from when I was pregnant the first time! My waters going were my first sign of labour last time and they went in the evening!

Hopefully they'll stay in tact for a bit longer this time-such a mess having water gushing out of you every time you move! Luckily I was in hospital as soon as they broke due to GBS!
