Potty training at Easter?

wishIwasonholiday10 · 08/04/2025 11:32

Is anyone else going to try potty training at Easter? Is 3-4 days enough to get a feeling of whether its going to work? We go to a prepaid swimming class on Friday morning (with 30 min pram walk each way) so was wondering whether to start on Friday afternoon or just start on Saturday? I could also take a few more days off work but would have to do this before Easter and would need to decide soon.

Go for it! I’d start Friday afternoon. If the weather is due to be good where you are, you can spend time outside to save your flooring from any of the many accidents you are sure to have. Good luck

Agree, go for it. My eldest was peeing in the potty after a couple of days of no pants, though pooing in the potty was more of a struggle.

Minesril · 08/04/2025 14:53

I did it with my eldest over Easter! It was a few months before his third birthday. He was doing his Easter trail on the Sunday morning in pants with me hovering nervously nearby, and pretty sure he went in the potty by himself by Sunday evening.

Go for it, I trained my youngest over Easter and she was back in nursery on the Tuesday in knickers and never had an accident there. She was 3 though. If they’re ready they get the hang of it quickly. Start straight after swimming on Friday.

I did it with my eldest over Easter. I'm going to try with my youngest this Easter too, although I feel nervous about it !

Disastrouspottytraining · 11/04/2025 07:10

We did this last year! It was reasonably successful - despite my username, DD1 managed OK to start with, we just had a mega regression after DD2 was born, which was a bit sooner after easter than planned. Just be realistic about the ups and downs. The two months of poops in the pants every day last summer was the worst but we kept powering through and things got there eventually.

Starryknightcloud · 14/04/2025 12:56

We did this 2 years ago, worked really well. You could also sack off swimming for once if you want a clear "good morning, no nappies from now, here is the potty" vibe- mine hadn't turned 2 yet so we had to be really clear with them. Knackered after swimming when they'd swallowed half the pool wouldn't have set us up for sucess 😆

Sevenandahalf · 14/04/2025 14:21

I've actually started early as I'm off work - so I started Saturday morning. The potty training board is very quiet, it's only a few pages back when I posted about training my DD, and that was five years ago!!

tiredmumma90 · 14/04/2025 23:41

I'm starting to potty train my son tomorrow as its easter hols and my 2 oldest are off school for two weeks so perfect excuse to get him trained, plus he starts school in September.

Good luck with the potty training 😊

How’s everybody getting on?

We decided to tackle it from Thursday onwards. Just looking for some solidarity 😂

We started yesterday as got four days off before going back to work/nursery. My little boy is 3 and 1 month. How are you doing?

Best of luck to you! How were day one and two?

We’ve had mixed success! My little boy is two and a half and this is the same age I trained his older brother. He seems to understand what it’s about and is a bit fed up having to go on it all of the time now 😂. Most of the peeps and poos are going in it but we did have a #2 accident this morning (but of a bad tummy though!) We managed out for an Easter egg hunt earlier without an accident so that’s a win! Did mean hauling the potty round the hunt however, very glamorous 😂

wishIwasonholiday10 · 19/04/2025 19:14

We started on Thursday too but it’s not going very well so far. We only had one wee starting in the potty today and about 10 changes of clothes (she doesn’t want to be bare-bummed). She is able to finish most wees on the potty once started. We did have 3 hours without an accident yesterday with very close watching and frequent prompting. She seems to be getting distressed with the frequent prompting though. I might need to rethink the strategy for tomorrow 😢

@wishIwasonholiday10mine is getting fed up with the prompting too! Keen to avoid it to become a battle of wills but not entirely sure how?!

Edited

He seems to be smashing it but this is our second attempt. We tried on the christmas break and after a day & half with nothing but accidents i gave up. He turned three last month so his speech & understanding has improved so much since christmas that we decided to try again during easter. We have also been getting him to sit on the potty for the last 6-8 months when doing a nappy change so he is so use to it.

He had 3 accidents all yesterday morning then all wees on the potty from 11ish yesterday until bedtime. He was just in pants though so was easier. He had one accident this morning after he got up (think it was 7ish) but that’s the only accident we have had all day. Had pj’s on him to start with then moved to normal trousers, he can pull both down & back up again.

We aren’t prompting him to go unlike Christmas, we just say tell us if you need a wee but most the time he just runs to the bathroom, pulls pants & trousers down and normally on the potty before we even get there. He even came inside from playing in the garden for a wee so we treated him to mcdonalds for tea. We were out for just over an hour and had no accidents. Went for a wee twice while we were there.

Aww bless, its not the most exciting thing for them to be doing so they get fed up with it pretty quick. Glad you managed to get out for an egg hunt though! Hauling potties will be our life soon 🤣

Haha - it’s on them now then 😂

Hope it goes well! I imagine they will be quite on the ball with the toileting surely? My LO hasn’t started nursery yet - do let me know how it goes!

My ds went back to nursery on day 4! He didn't have any accidents, I was thrilled for him.

Might be a bit of a shock as forgot to tell them we were planning to do it 🤣

Yeah they will be. He is technically in the pre-school part of the nursery and is one of the youngest in pre-school so most the other kids are already trained/training. Got 5 sets of clothes in his bag and just hoping that’s enough as he goes from 7.30 till 3.30. Will report back with update tomorrow.

It is day 4 today and no accidents so im hopeful but must be easy to forget when playing with friends.

Did your som have many accidents on the first few days?

The nursery prompted him well and they did him a little sticker chart. I think he enjoyed showing off as they said he did lots of wees and a poo!
First day DS had accidents constantly. Next day I prompted every 45 mins and he had one accident , day 3 I prompted 1.5 hours - no major accidents and then he started going by himself. I'm so proud of him as his speech is delayed and I thought he would find it hard.

Sounds like you’re well prepped with the clothes and four days of training - fingers crossed!
