What are the "signs" that your DC is ready to train??

Ds1 is 2.3mo. He has not yet shown any 'sign' of being ready to toilet/potty train that I am aware of.

But I just realised today: I haven't a clue what signs I should be looking for!!

What signs did your DC give?

Fwiw, DS is very verbal and has a good understanding of most concepts I explain to him. He knows that mummy and daddy do wees and poos on the toilet. We bought a potty a whole back and put it in the bathroom. Every night before bathtime we take his clothes and nappy off in the bathroom and say "do you want to sit on the potty and do a wee" and he says, without fail, every night: "no mummy, not tonight. Maybe another day."!!

And then he usually pisses on the floor!!

So i have just assumed he is not ready.

He does however:

  • know when he is pooing and tell me (at the moment it's coming out his bum lol)
  • seems to also know when he is weeing in his nappy and tells me (and doesn't sound happy about it)

Any help appreciated!

Those are very good signs that he's showing already.

Is his nappy dry for a period of time say 1 - 2 hours then significantly wet? One of my friends tried TT her DS when he wasn't ready and said it was like following a drippy tap all day! I waited till mine had dry nappies then significantly wet in one go as it seemed to show they had some bladder control. All 4 children day trained in between a few days and a month.
