Exclusively breastfeeding mamas

How soon after giving birth did you get your first period? Just wondering as I'm 9 weeks postpartum and haven't gotten mine yet, just a bit of light spotting for a few days the other week. I've read that it can take longer for exclusively breastfeeding mamas to get their first period as baby's sucking motion sends a signal which halts ovulation?

Within 6 weeks both times. Not. Only ebf but every 2 hrs and throughout the night. Sad times for me and @edithweston

whitechocolatefingers · 19/07/2018 21:47

Still breastfeeding my 7 month old but got had my first period at 10 weeks pp. Was not impressed!! I wish I could say it's because he slept but he still doesn't go longer than 2 hours!

AvtarRamKaur · 19/07/2018 21:49

18 months and counting, though I expect my first will arrive within a couple of weeks, if my interpretation of the signs is accurate.

Lindah1 · 19/07/2018 21:49

3 moons Angry

I suppose I’ll accept it for the night sleeping.

OneShitNight · 19/07/2018 22:07

*months not moons.
My phone thinks I’m from the Bronze Age.

mum98760 · 19/07/2018 22:07

I got mine after 3 months. Just 4 weeks after I stopped post party bleeding! I have not long finished breastfeeding after 14 months and that period was a killer.

My friends all breastfeed and gave 1 or 2 formula a day and never got theirs until the stopped BF entirely. Everyone is different.

mum98760 · 19/07/2018 22:08

*partum.

There was nothing party about it

WeShouldOpenABar · 19/07/2018 22:08

5 months then straight on pop and no sign yet, I'm wildly planning never to have a period again if I can help it

Bi11yOneMate · 19/07/2018 22:15

Still waiting at 23 months, but he still feeds all bloody night... With #1&2 it was as soon as I went back to work and so had a gap in feeding, as they also fed all bloody night.

birthofawoman · 19/07/2018 23:55

Thanks for all your responses! Wow, I never knew it was so long - nobody told me that part (not even at the antenatal classes). Saying that, I'm the only person I know who actually breastfeeds. Pretty much every mother in family formula-fed their little one(s). Call me crazy but I actually miss my period. It made me feel really in touch with my femininity even though, yes, it would hurt. I started wearing a menstrual cup about a year before I got pregnant, and I found that the cup made the menstrual experience a lot more pleasant. I'm not sexually active right now (no desire to be), so I'm not even benefitting from the free and hassle-less contraceptive! ☺️
