Thanks Whinegums. I've posted on that thread!

BDQ I heard that garlic pessaries were a way of getting rid of Group B Strep so tried it but the next morning couldn't find the garlic and posted in a panic. As you can see, everyone on the thread was hugely sympathetic and tactful about it

5 good news!

Essie3 · 25/06/2009 22:54

Helloooo - I made it to London. Iestyn went to sleep on the train after a fight, and slept for an hour, then woke up and was ok although he was desperate to crawl around. I didn't let him really. My saving grace was the portable Phil&Ted's Me Too high chair. (Oooh, BDQ - it's worth checking out as a portable high chair - was it you? I've been a bit slow there!) Anyhow, that meant he was at the table with me, and couldn't escape. Although he tried!

Cakes - whoever it was... I made Iestyn's no. 1 cake and hired a tin. But it did occur to me to make a square one. My buttercream was a bit too thick (!! like me??) and wouldn't spread, so became all crummy, so I had to totally cover the cake in chocolate buttons, of which I had three varieties (normal, extra large, and white). It was ok... But I discovered the other day that you can just buy buttercream ready mixed, as well as various other decorating stuff - Dr Oetker. It was in our small co-op so it must be quite easy to get?

Got to go - on Tim's computer and he doesn't like sharing it.

Amberc · 26/06/2009 05:56

OMG - Michael Jackson! I am really upset about it - more than Princess Di.

FiveGoMadInDorset · 26/06/2009 07:24

Shocked but not shocked igf you see what I mean, I was lucky to see him in the 1980's on his Bad tour before he went wierd, I hope his children are being well looked after.

pureeandpearls · 26/06/2009 09:06

Don't know what to say abpout the MJ news, or the Farrah Fawcett news (though that at least I saw coming)

Gutted you won't be there today Amber, but next week.

BDQ Betty Crocker Frosting can be bought in most supermarkets- the vanilla is good for dying and one tub would cover a standard sized cake. Get two if in any doubt. BTW the chocolate one is particularly good if eate straight from the tub

OP posts:
PiggyPenguin · 26/06/2009 11:22

Bizarrely I have a tub of Betty Crocker chocolate fudge icing sitting right next to me on the ktichen worktop as I type this... DD has a friend coming over for a sleepover tomorrow so we are going to make a chocolate cake.

We were going to make a carrot cake but dd's friend decided she didn't want carrot and so asked for chocolate instead The girls were born 3 weeks apart and have been best friends since birth so they have a bit of a sibling relationship. This does mean that they are very clear with each other about what they want, and often bicker, but it is nice for dd given she only has brothers.

Rolf · 26/06/2009 11:55

I'm making cakes, too! It's DD1's birthday party tomorrow so I'm on my 2nd batch of fairy cakes and will then start on her birthday cake. I am very unimaginative with birthday cakes and each year they get a big chocolate one, with chocolate ganache and chocolate buttons all over the top. It is so excessively chocolatey that they don't notice how un-creative it is!

I'm also bagging up the party bags which I get very excited about. I've been awake since 5am (not my idea, but Thea's) so want to get as much done as possible so I don't have to stay up all night as I know I'll be knackered by then.

Essie well done on your successful journey to London! I'd be very apprehensive about it, too.

ktpie how are you today? Are you having a scan?

DebInAustria · 26/06/2009 13:31

All this talk of cakes is making me hungry....

Happy Birthday to all those having parties this weekend

Ktpie - how are you today?

The sun is finally shining in Austria

spongebrainmaternitypants · 26/06/2009 14:39

Hi guys, dropping by quickly to say hello and mark my place - notice there's a London meet up today that I wasn't invited too, I get the hint!

Too many posts to catch up on so will say hi to all - although I did notice BDQ's post about 3 stair gates, guilty as charged! One over kitchen door, one at top of stairs and one at bottom. In my defence, I move like a sloth nowadays so Alex could have got in the kitchen, cooked a three course meal and eaten it before I hauled my arse off the sofa to stop him!

Hope everyone else is well x

pureeandpearls · 26/06/2009 14:52

More a South London meet Sponge.....and I have three stair gates too (four if you count the one in the other house!) Just don't ask me how many pushchairs I have!!

Off for the weekend after a fun time with Essie and Penguin. See you soon x

OP posts:
spongebrainmaternitypants · 26/06/2009 15:27

Ah, I'll let you off then .

You're going to have to 'fess up now and tell us how many pushchairs you have!

PenguinProject · 26/06/2009 16:04

Hello - I should be cleaning right now, but wanted to pop in and say hello after having had a lovely morning with Puree and babyPearls, who is a beautiful little girl and Essie and Iestyn, who was as cute as ever. Sponge - did not mean to miss you out at all, hoping to do another within a couple of weeks, would love to see you and Alex - and Ali & Peter if you're back. (Have I forgotten anyone...)

Rolf - I haven't forgotten that you misguidedly, but very kindly called me petite and elfin last week. I would marry you for that comment alone, but that would involve us meeting and you seeing how wrong you are. Love you for it anyway!

Actually, thanks to anti anxiety medication I have put on two stone and am absolutely gutted about it. Have been advised to crash diet to lose it 'so that my body does not get used to it' by my dr, so Monday, post the remains of Ryder's cake, I will be starting atkins. Wish me luck.

Will catch up properly and write a less self centred post later.r

ktpie · 26/06/2009 17:10

Haven't heard back from the midwife yet, going away this weekend so going to try to enjoy myself then try again to speak to a midwife next week.
Going to a hen party this weekend for one of my best friends. Don't know how I am going to get away with not drinking without making up some huge porky, I am rubbish at lying. Don't really want to tell them the real reason as I'm concerned about it, hmmm.

Have had the MIL visiting today, she didn't say anything about the grubby clock. My ILs are great really. It's just the odd little things.

I need to start thinking about birthday cakes etc, BDQ you sound a lot more organised than me. I used to be pretty good at baking cakes with my old rubbish gas oven but now we have moved and I have a lovely big fancy electric fan oven everything seems to get burnt or over done. Need more practice I guess.

Right have totally ignored everyone and now J (who is full of cold) has woken and is crying, have good weekends everyone.

bitofadramaqueen · 26/06/2009 17:58

Hi everyone, I've decided to be brave and try my hand at baking a cake. Gulp. whinegums I hope you won't be offended if I borrow your jungle theme idea? Although I won't be so brave as to try making a 1. I've been looking at jungle theme decorations so that would fit in nicely.

Am hoping everyone with three plus stairgates took my comments as being firmly tongue in cheek.

Must dash for now but big hello to you all and thanks particularly to all who offered cakemaking advice. Can you be online next Saturday in case I get stuck?

whinegums · 26/06/2009 18:10

Yayyyyyy BDQ!!! Well done! It will be fine. I am not offended at all (secretly hoping yours doesn't put mine to shame though!). Tesco had some monkey decorated party decs, so I'm going for those - mucho cheapo into the bargain.

B has cold, and has kindly passed it on, so I'm feeling a bit blehh.

I'm also inexplicably sad about MJ - couldn't believe it when I turned on the radio this morning. I love Jackson 5 stuff, I Want You Back is one of my favourite ever songs.

Talking of radio, did anyone hear the lunchtime weather yesterday on R4? V childish, but pmsl when the announcer slipped up and talked about Glastonbury being a "muddy shite" instead of site. Ah, simple things, etc.

Awww, this is so sweet, B is laughing his head off at ITNG - only Iggle Piggle though, he doesn't like those Tombliboos or the maggoty looking Makka Pakka thing!!

whinegums · 26/06/2009 18:31

Oh, and BDQ, if you like, I can be on the end of the phone next Saturday (but you won't need me).

FiveGoMadInDorset · 26/06/2009 19:26

Today I have proved that women can put flat pack furniture together, 2 wardrobes, 1 bookshelf, 2 beds and 2 truckle beds to be precise, followed by ironing, 3 loads of washing and preparing supper as mother is coming to babysit for an hour.

bitofadramaqueen · 26/06/2009 20:00

5 I'm a dab hand at diy but the sound of that lot is making me exhausted!

ktpie I hope you enjoy your weekend.

whinegums I may need to take you up on that! Also, it's on my list to look at dates to suggest for a meet up, so leave that with me!

Where are all the other Scottis folk btw, are you all on your hols?

PenguinProject · 26/06/2009 20:22

KTPie - Not drinking suggestions...antibiotics / dieting / got to drive early in the morning.

BDQ - I am happy to be on the end of the phone advising which supermarket you should go to and buy a cake from. [Bad Mummy Emoticon] Ryder has had two cakes now, both from Sainsburys, although we did do the icing ourselves.

5 - Wow, supermum are you available for hire?

Whinegums - Muddy shite mad me laugh too, esp on R4.

Opps, family here now - will keep up soon! x

PenguinProject · 27/06/2009 10:23

What happened, did I kill the thread?

So happy that today has turned out sunny as the whole penguin family is descending for a birthday picnic in Hyde Park!

Hope everyone else has happy sunny saturdays, enjoy your hen night ktpie.

bitofadramaqueen · 27/06/2009 14:17

No pp I'm still here. Am sorting through S's old clothes today into sell, charity, give to pg friend and basically getting rid of everything (apart from a few mementos). Am I mad? If we did have anothe child it would at least 4 years away, and it could all be moth eaten/ruined by damp or who knows what else by then! Am keeping all the other 'stuff' like sling etc though. Please reassure me

whinegums · 27/06/2009 15:18

5, I'm in awe of flat pack ability and ironing!

No sunshine here today, booooo. So have also been sorting clothes and making a trial birthday cake, alongside watching tennis.

BDQ, no, I don't think you're mad - keep any bits you really love as mementos, and get rid of the rest. If you have another, a) it may be a girl, and b) you can do all the shopping again. Unless you have loads of storage space (moth and damp free), I think you're being sensible. I sold my first lot of B's stuff on Ebay the other week, and some of my old maternity stuff too. Very satisfying.

Rolf, hope the party was fun - is it Thea's birthday today?

whinegums · 27/06/2009 15:19

Oh, BDQ, also meant to say, YES, let's try and do a date soon.

DebInAustria · 27/06/2009 15:22

PP enjoy your picnic

BDQ - you're wise to keep the other stuff but clothes do take up a lot of space, maybe the pg friend could keep hold of them after in case you need them again!

Ali's gone home and I'm feeling sad, Ethan's still looking at their apartment door expectantly !Having 5 minutes whilst Ethan sleeps before I tackle the kitchen

Amberc · 27/06/2009 18:26

Had a lovely evening at Gordon Ramsay at Claridges yesterday. Got to look round the kitchen too - was amazing. The food was great - we had the tasting menu - yum yum!

Felt like dog turd this morning though plus Luke is ill - he has terrible runny botty and is not eating anything. He's had it for three days now and it doesn't seem to be getting better. Been giving him gallons of water.

Wow this weather! We have huge balls of ice in our balcony!

Been getting tearful about MJ again watching vids on the music channels.

I am so impressed with the baking. I would never ever do it. Am crap at cakes.

Luke now has his little tikes car built and as I thought he has gone mad over it, getting in and out, putting his toys in and then removing them. He likes opening the door most though!

Anyway, totally self centred post but I have a hangover and I'm tired out. x
