Great news debs - best of luck for the 2nd viewing. I agree with others - def Italy (apart from anything else it's freezing over here and Italy sounds much more appealing)

Amberc · 31/07/2009 14:43

I have missed the italy thing - what's going on - sounds like more than a holiday - is that where the next venture will be? Good luck with the viewing!!

DebInAustria · 31/07/2009 15:17

Thanks everyone

No, it's only a holiday Amber!!

A 2010 meet up would be a great idea

Abdn - have lovely time with your family

Rolf · 31/07/2009 17:42

Great about the viewingsDeb . How is your knee?

Glad you've found a buyer for your flat, Amber

We have a car! It took a mere 4 years! I don't think DH will ever forgive me for pushing him into getting it. He is being such a grouch you'd think I'd asked him to sell his kidneys so I could afford a new frock. So we are not exactly radiant with happiness I don't care as I can escape in our new car (once I've learned how to drive it!). DD1 is showing how hopeless we are by being genuinely baffled at the thought of me sitting in the front next to DH, not in the middle at the back, like the family dog, which was how I sat until I was too heavily pregnant with Thea to be able to be prised into my seat.

At some point we'll need to accept that we could really do with 2 cars but I'll give that another 4 years before I get firm...

Thea is very whiney at the moment. Don't know if it's teeth. She's a bit hot, too.

PiggyPenguin · 31/07/2009 19:25

Great news on the house selling, Amber/Debs and really great news on the car buying Rolf. What type did you buy in the end?

Deb, you must go to Italy. This is probably going to be your last chance to holiday from Austria so I'd make the most of it.

Been to a theme park today which has just highlighted to the whole family what a huge scaredy-cat I am. On the Balloon ferris wheel the kids (8 &5) had to sit holding my hands and making soothing noises when it got a bit high. I also refused point blank to go the log flume or any roller coasters. The kids were very nice about it though, apparently I can't help being a wuss

J was a pain though as he is refusing to go in his pushchair and just wants to run/walk everywhere

Rolf · 31/07/2009 19:54

Sybil lol at you needing your hand held!

We got a Ford Galaxy. It is huuuge, and I am a really nervous girly driver. I keep being assured that huge cars are so much easier to drive than little ones so we'll see...

Amberc · 31/07/2009 20:36

Sybil - Luke is the same with the pushchair it's hideous - especially on the DLR in rush hour.

PenguinProject · 31/07/2009 21:10

Viva - LOL at the dummy police.

Deb - Yay re the viewings and I'd say go for Italy too, esp if you might be back in the UK soon anyway.

Amber - Fantastic news about the flat.

Sara - That is exactly how we settle here if we get any night wakings.

Speaking - R is saying Dad to DH now, he says Mum too, but he seems to actually understand Dad and uses it appropriately. He also understands that the word no means to laugh hysterically and keep doing exactly what he's doing...

Sybil - I am a complete theme park wuss. Years ago I was convinced to go on the log flume, it stopped just as we were about to go down the drop. We were stuck up there for hours and had to climb down! So I'm even worse now. I think it comes from me being a control freak, I'm ok on things I can control, ie: a snowboard, but not things someone else is driving, like a helicopter.

I met up with some other Wimbledon Mums today which was great as we haven't all caught up for a couple of months. One of the babies is so clearly going to a charmer. Already, at 14 months, he has the most charming smile and big brown eyes.

I completed a form today for my Permanent Health Insurance in which I had to say what I do from waking to sleeping for a week. I do nothing. That is not good. The balance between taking small steps and complete inertia is a delicate one. And I was feeling good...! But obviously if I pretend I'm better than I am I get no money. I hate this kind of thing...

DH watching Spiderman and is very excited that Ry's nickname may end up being Spider!

Essie3 · 31/07/2009 21:24

LOL Penguin! You'll have to post addresses next...

PenguinProject · 31/07/2009 22:01

OPPPSS!! Sorry Essie!

But it's ok, if I post one of your addresses you can hide in the other.

bitofadramaqueen · 01/08/2009 07:34

Morning all.

Where in Italy do you fancy Deb? We spent all last night trawling through baby bolt holes and have a few shortlisted, so need to look at availibility. Typically, our faves are a bugger to get to from Edinburgh. Amber, is it you that's going somewhere in FrAnce throug them.

Not much else of interest here. No words, no walking. We've made a bottle for bedtime tonight using the last of the formula so going to try cup of milk at bedtime from tomorrow. Fingers crossed he still settles ok! On the dummy front, we've cut back on it drastically and he doesn't get it in the car now so so far so good'

essie you mentioned about studying with a baby so feel free to ask as many questions as you like, but I fear I'm probably only good for what not to do!

Need o go sort S's breakfast, will pop in later!

DebInAustria · 01/08/2009 07:53

Morning, I am impatiently waiting for the guests to clear out the apartment, they are supposed to be out by 9.30 am , it's now 8.50 and I can't hear any signs of life, we have to clean all that (the big one -4 bathrooms, 4 bedrooms) and make sure our house is OK by 12.00 for the next viewing, plus Ethan is clingy. The boys usually look after him for about an hour until his morning sleep, but don't know if that will work today!!

BDQ - no walking or talking here either. We're looking at Northern Italy, I fancied the coast east of Venice but the water quality's not great and dh isn't a beach person at all. So I think maybe inland , been looking around Treviso which is a train journey away from Venice and an hour from the coast.

Rolf - CONGRATULATIONS on your car

poppy34 · 01/08/2009 11:02

Deb fingers crossed re viewing- hope Ethan calms down. And round treviso sounds lovely.
Rolf great news re car.
Essie - I am in sw london in Twickenham.
Brain like mush as e up for 3 hours last night for
no reason I can fathom - wasn't upset or seemed I'll just wouldn't settle awAy from being held - suspect too hot and overtired. Am afraid my patience was bit thin and snapped unfairly at dh but really do need to bite bullet on cc to self settle at some point. I was all up for it.
Too tired Now to do much- is it bad that am going to bin going to see friend as have no energy but to sit on sofa and scoff mini rolls?

bitofadramaqueen · 01/08/2009 12:13

No, eat the mini rolls! S had a night like that a while back, I think we got about 4 hours sleep. I actually got a great nights sleep last night but am absolutely exhausted this morning!

How did the changeover/viewing go deb? Italian holiday sounds like a great idea. Big fan of Italy as I got married there!

poppy34 · 01/08/2009 12:35

Thanks bdq- where did you get married? Friend got married in Tuscany and it was lovely.

DebInAustria · 01/08/2009 14:29

changeover/viewing went OK. Don't think they'll be buying as they're looking at lots of properties in other areas as well. Ethan calmed down and slept for 2 hours whilst we cleaned, then viewing , then boys had him whilst we finished off the cleaning, now I'm waiting for guests to arrive, they're 2.5 hours late and haven't called, our current guests said we could send S and T to the pool and they'd watch them for us, so we did that and now dh has gone with Ethan whilst I wait. I hope they get here soon so I can go for a swim too, got my cossie on ready!! I have put shorts and t shirt on too though, don't want to frighten the guests away!!

Wedding in italy sounds lovely BDQ

Poppy - hope you have a better night

poppy34 · 01/08/2009 15:36

Hope you get your swim- sneaked out to get hair done - think it might be a mistake as fear I look like an aeroflot hostess with purple tones ( am sitting waiting for it to do set). Quiet as always on a weekend on here although few lucky ones on holiday- hope weather ok for the campers.

bitofadramaqueen · 01/08/2009 16:13

I got married in Verona Poppy. It was lovely thanks Deb. Am pretty sure there are pictures on fb if anyone bored and feeling nosey .

Big news here - S took an unaided step . Both DH and I were here to see it which was nice. I'm expecting lots of bumps and tears for a while. He keeps kind of throwing himself backwards just now and we have laminate everywhere downstairs...

Hope you get your swim deb. How's the hair now poppy?

poppy34 · 01/08/2009 17:30

Hair is not good .... Dh been laughing at it as it does have distinct purple tones - am hoping as it's semi permanent it may fade with washing

bitofadramaqueen · 01/08/2009 18:50

Oops!

pleasechange · 01/08/2009 19:17

oops poppy maybe it'll look better when the shock's worn off . Hope you have a better night tonight - did you go for the mini rolls ?

bdq - cheer for S! Was he pleased with himself?

debs - hope you got swimming. Sounds like hard work all that cleaning. I'm here on my own tomorrow and am planning to clear out cupboards/clean etc. but I can see me putting it off as usual!

A is getting so impatient. Does anyone else's lo throw tantrums on a fairly regular basis?

Essie3 · 01/08/2009 19:58

Penguin it's more funny because you're one of the people who actually call me Essie in real life!! (The whole name thing is a bit pointless on here now because I've met loads of you guys and know others on facebook, so we're not really anonymous any more!

Essie3 · 01/08/2009 20:12

Sorry, that previous post was one I wrote this morning, but then I got a battery low warning, clicked post and it died. But it saved posting till just now.

Poppy how bad is the hair? I started going to my hairdressers a few years ago because I had a home dye job disaster. (They're in Wimbledon and open Sundays...) They fixed it, and I left with my hair looking better than it had ever looked, even when I was a child. (BTW, I've changed my hair again, and gone really short now! But I've had loads of compliments. My suspicious mind makes me think my hair was really shite previously and all these compliments are along the lines of 'oh your hair looks so good'

pleasechange · 01/08/2009 20:57

hope you find the quad bike! A managed to lose his favourite policeman last week and I think I was more upset than he was - he loves to clutch it when going to sleep so I'll have to replace it. In our house it's the other way round with looking for things - i never look properly for anything then DH finds it in the first drawer he looks in

Well I'm in for a night of it tonight - A has been screaming for an hour now already. Have turned off the monitor now because each time I go in he just gets into more of a frenzy. I know there's nothing wrong because when I tried laying beside him on the bed he started to giggle. It's a battle of wills now - although something tells me he will win. Probably the headache I'm developing!

abdnhiker · 01/08/2009 21:25

am just lurking because I am trying to be a good host but wanted to beg essie to put hair pictures up on facebook... I love hair photos, especially shorter styles. Poppy - I hope the purple has disappeared in the wash...
