Veggie URGENT - you left your debit card at the Slug. They won't let me pick it up and post it to you - they said you need to get it yourself with some ID. I said you're not from York and they said if you ring and speak to the duty manager then they might let you make a different arrangement. If they allow it I'm more than happy to collect it and post it on.

I loved the meet-up and everyone and their LOs are very lovely indeed

traceface · 09/04/2009 18:43

I guess the number would be helpful for you veggie - 01904 679900. I'll email you all my contact details in case you need them/ me!

Turniphead1 · 09/04/2009 19:18

Another URGENT! verso don't buy an iPhone til June. A new (BETTER) one is being launched - which is why they are heavily marketing now (to get rid of the old stock). Sorry if yhou know this - I did NOT know this when I bought mine a couple of weeks ago. I agree with everything Summer says. Some of the shortcomings are being addressed in the new model and the new online updates. But there are some fabulous applications - eg; today DD1 wanted to play a game that needed a dice - couldn't find one, so thought iPhone to the rescue and sure enough I have a fab dice that doesn't roll across the room and that both kids can use.

Sorry your nights are so rubbish. Shoot me if this is the most awful suggestion ever, but have you ever tried following evil GF timings during the day for feeds and sleeps. Its not the answer to everything but I have had some friends in RL for whom it really turned round very bad sleep problems. Know it doesn't work for everyone etc. Does your DD2 nap during the day? Ignore ignore if this is just about the last thing you need to hear.

Glad you had a good meetup York gals. Does Veggie win a prize for most travelled thread member for meetups??

EffiePerine · 09/04/2009 19:52

Apple are prone to doing that . Still v v purty

tillyfernackerpants · 09/04/2009 21:10

Evening all, have borrowed my dad's laptop & taken myself off to bed! We're all exhausted after today, I think ds1 crashed out before I left the room! It was lovely to meet everyone, & gosh, we have handsome & pretty children . Hope everyone made it home ok.

veggie ds1 loved your ds1, he was on the phone to dh earlier telling him that A shared his ketchup & they then got up to rascally things! It was a shame we couldn't join you at the museum but I think he'd reached the end of his stamina running back to the station.

I'm definitely going to get rid of ds2's dummy. I was up and down for about 20mins tonight before he settled, simply because it kept falling out. I know I should throw them in the bin & go cold turkey but I'm going to see if there are any Useful Books on the subject first (highly doubtful but you never know!)

sugarrations hurray for dh! Let's hope he keeps it up! Do you think work will agree to 2 days?

pmk how are you feeling tonight?

Veggiemummy · 09/04/2009 21:23

Hellooooo all home (well except for my switch card) and nearly all the small ones are asleep. Thanks Trace I realized at the museum but couldn't get through to the slug & lettuce as the number that I had when I looked it up on google maps didn't work. So I just cancelled it as First direct always send them out pretty promptly and we have DHs card. Thanks for your offer though that's very kind. I took a wrong turn and ended up at the railway museum instead of the Model railway world but we found it eventually (yes JB it is right at the station you can practically enter from platform 2). Ds1 loved it and after being quite sad that SonofTilly wasn't there as well he hooked up with some American boy and they ran around going 'look it's a train' & 'look another train' look a diesel look a train going over a bridge and so on and so forth for well over am hour luckily there was a chair so I sat down and let him roam free. We then had a lovely train ride home. I really love train journeys, ds1 stay fairly still and he loves them so is entertained and they bring coffee to me if I'm in first class, oh and he had free food too so we had tea on the train. I have decided that ds1 and I are going to have a look at some destinations with 2 hours of Derby and do more day trips. Will def come back to York it's lovely, Trace have you been to 'Dig' with Lucy, it's done Archeology thing. The only thing I didn't like about York is the big billboard announcing it's the home of Nestle.

Of course the best thing about York is meeting my lovely MN friends today, all the babies where very well behaved weren't they. Ds1 loved your ds1 Tilly, even if he did get a little posessive of his ketchup! Sorry about that. And thanks for your chips Trace. I can't believe I forgot to take photos until the end will download them off the phone over the weekend.

Verso I have the itouch, I love love live it. I don't really remember life without it, it enables me to sit here now while settling ds2 to sleep and keep up with you guys. I don't mind not having it as a phone as I fear things with too much in them as I lose things easily (as was illustrated with my card today), so having my Internet access device, phone and camera all in one is not good for me. However I would love to have internet while I'm out and about for various reasons and uses (ok I admit so I can check MN on the go) but many cafes have wifi now. If the phone is better I would go for the phone if I were you for the mobile Internet access. I don't have trouble typing on it, the pre emptive can be annoying and I can't seem to switch it to UK English for the spelling but otherwise I can type as fast as I think (which to be fair is not that fast). You just have to get used to switching betwen screens for numbers etc. I now use it more than my laptop I use it to shop on ocado and can buy most stuff inc on eBay with it. The only thing I haven't worked out is how to copy & paste.

Yes Turnip I am a bit of a meet up hussy, DH told me tonight I am the bridge in the group.

traceface · 09/04/2009 21:34

Veggie - glad you enjoyed the museum
I think the Slug said if you ring them and ask them to destroy the card they will and until they hear from you they'll keep it in the safe.

Poor Phoebe is still coughing She's gone to bed after another mini feed but I keep hearing her coughing. Am anticipating an awake night!

Time for Big Bang on E4...very funny indeed.

see you tomorrow xxx

SummerLightning · 09/04/2009 21:59

Veggie you can't copy and paste on iPhone or itouch. It's one of the known crap things about them though I think they are meant to be adding it in a new update.

waitinggirl · 09/04/2009 22:03

hello all - hope both north and south meet ups went well. was just too knackered to come to southern one - after 4/5 nights, i finally fell asleep and kept asleep even after the night feed - hallelujah! fingers crossed for now on.

we are off to italy on sat, but staying with friends tomorrow night. madam's first night in the travel cot (ended up using the massive graco one which my friends have lent us - it has a bassinette for madam) tomorrow. am feeling decidedly scared. her first few weeks were so full of screaming that any hint of her screaming at night throws me headlong into memories of that awful awful time.

the last couple of nights she has either uncharacteristically screamed blue murder when time has come to go to sleep, or woken up an hour into sleep doing the same. the only thing which has pacified her has been the boob - nothing else will do it. and the screaming has taken on some quite extraordinary dimensions now. i know other people are having sleep issues with LOs who have previously slept fine, but are people also experiencing this rage which we are? also, what else can i do apart from shove boob in gob when she gets like this? i tried singing, shushing, patting, holding, swaying, you name it - and i'm not going to leave her - am i creating a rod for my own proverbial?

i will have mn until about 3pm tomorrow, so will check. i may possibly have it in italy as well - so i may possibly be able to atch up - exciting!

hope people are well

EffiePerine · 09/04/2009 22:19

Hve just watched Big Trouble in Little China to celebrate the first evening off DH has taken in a fortnight. Overall, not recommended. You get to see Kurt Russell in a fetching vest but he has a mullet. James Bond tomorrow.

WG: I just feed cos nothing else seems to work.

Off to bed - hope you all have peaceful nights

Veggiemummy · 09/04/2009 23:20

WG ds2 gets the screaming demons and really screams like a women it is very high pitched and sounds very angry. I do whatever to settle even putting him into the cot and letting him have it out but make sure he knows I'm there by shushing patting and bouncing (we have the Amby cot). Also I have his music on that helps too. Don't read too much into the emotion though. She isn't angry with you, she may not even be angry in the way we understand anger to be.

Kimberly1979 · 09/04/2009 23:33

Hey everyone!

Hope everyone enjoyed the meet-ups!

Question for the travel savvy people (pmk) Does anyone know if I can bring formula on a plane? We are going to Dublin next week and I realized I have no idea what I can and can't bring. I was looking on the airport website and it said you could bring baby formula but you have to taste it. I was wondering about the Aptamil formula that comes in a container (like a juice box). Would I have to open the cartons and taste them??? From the sound of it you'd have to open all containers, which would be stupid and wasteful! They said that they sell formula past the security check point, but it's not the kind I use and don't think it would be wise to change what we're using. I did find out I could bring rounded tipped scissors on the plane... so at least I could open the cartons!

Another question... what about buggies? I was told some airlines won't accept certain types of buggies. A friend said she had to go buy a buggy especially to take on a trip because the airline wouldn't allow her to take her Bugaboo. Is there a website I can check out to find out what kinds of buggies are acceptable? I have a Silver Cross 3-D...

Sorry to hear about people having rubbish nights. Hopefully they'll get better soon.

WG Glad to hear you got some shut eye last night! Hopefully you'll continue to get some rest.

turnip been meaning to ask how the double pump is working for you.

trace sorry to hear Phoebe is feeling a bit under the weather. Hope she starts to feel better soon.

Wish I could get an iPhone. Maybe someday...

Okay... should seriously go to bed seeing as how it's going on Midnight. Hope everyone gets some well deserved rest tonight.

Olipop · 10/04/2009 07:00

Good morning!
Had a little scan through so sorry to those of you having rough nights.
As you can see, I've not been very good at keeping up again. I think I can blame that on two little people and also the fact that I have discovered the Twilight series of books! Teen fiction at its best. Absolutely perfect for brains still a bit mushy. I am a total addict and I'm afraid my mumsnet time has suffered as a result.

Heidi had her second lot of jabs yesterday. I wish I could be tougher but it just about breaks my heart. Other than that she is doing well although still not giggling. We get the occasional sound that is the start of a laugh but it goes no further. I can't wait for proper baby giggles.

Hope everyone has lovely plans for Easter. We are just mooching around, seeing people here and there but I really hope the weather is better than it looks this morning.

Take care xxx

EffiePerine · 10/04/2009 07:06

Morning

A better night for us - DS2 asleep 7:45, woke for a feed at 1 and 5 . Could have done without DS1 waking at 6:15 though!

sugarrations · 10/04/2009 07:33

Hello oli

Well, DS up at 12 and 4am, settled both times so it was quite good

Glad the meet up went well! Need to pack for our holiday to Cyprus tomorrow. Hopefully it shouldn't take all day and I can get my last fix on MN before we go

kim you can take formula on plane, but just what is needed. I did once have to open the carton, thankfully I had srerile bottle ready to tip into. On another occasion they never made me open the cartons so not sure really - sorry I've probably confused you more! Check the airport website for latest guidance.

If your buggy collapses as a whole unit then most airlines will accept it. We have a Quinny Buzz, and it only collapses when the pushcair is in a certain position, so we always re-jigged it at the gate and then collapse it.

KinderEggKayzr · 10/04/2009 07:56

Morning,

I had a fabulous time yesterday. All the babies are gorgeous and Trace Phoebe's head is in perfect preportion(sp) to her body!! Tilly and Veggie your DS1's are gorgeous and they looked like they had a great time together.

I had a hell of a trip home. We missed our bus by 5 minutes and then the bus was 25 minutes late. So I just made it to weight watchers and I habd lost 6lbs. So that toad in the hole wednesday night probably made me put 2lbs on.

Hope you are all ok!!

Olipop · 10/04/2009 08:04

Thank you for welcoming me back [sheepish emoticon].

I'm with you on the early rising Effie, DS woke up at 5.15 but I stuck a pingu dvd on and managed to dose on the sofa.

Well done on the 6lbs Kayz!

Sugar - who are you!!!! Sorry, missed that name change!

Verso · 10/04/2009 08:31

Another terrible night here . turnip thanks for urgent warning and GF tip. Have to say I'm tempted GFwise although DD2 used to be on her own little routine - just the four month killer growth spurt threw everything out . Last night was simply appalling.

Hey ho.

Off to Battersea Park Zoo later today, which should be nice despite tiredness. I was supposed to be singing/acting in a play today but have cried off due to extreme knackeredness...

Hope everyone has a good day.

artichokes · 10/04/2009 08:35

Yuk, yuk, yuk. Another crappy night with a cold filled baby. I am cold filled too and have v bad back so was feeling v sorry for myself. Talking of colds how are you now PMK?

It was lovely seeing people in Hyde Park on Fri - even the Lycra clad Mr PMK!

Verso - I love my iPhone and use it to MN, FB etc. Unlike Veggie I find accurate typing v hard (as evidenced by my posts) but that is my only complaint. Well that and the fact that I find it near impossible to leave alone.

WG - DD2 has taken to screaming blue murder at bed time. Not even the boob stops her, nothing helps at all. In the end I realized I just have to leave her to it and although it breaks my heart I can't even shush and pat as it makes her worse. So I leave and feel awful but within 5 mims she usually is fast asleep.

Kim - it's luck of the draw whether they make you open the milk.

So many of you are off on lovely sounding hols. Have a great time one and all.

sugarrations · 10/04/2009 09:30

oli, tis I daisydora

tillyfernackerpants · 10/04/2009 09:33

Morning all, another rough night here as well! But ds1 slept till 8.30 which is unheard of !

Oli I read the Twilight books recently as well, they're fab. Have you got all of them? If not, I can lend you the ones you're missing (tis Ros by the way!)

wg sorry, I don't know about the crying but it sounds horrible. Hope you have a nice holiday though

kimberley when I've travelled I've used a little tub with compartments to hold the formula, then I've just had to dip my finger in & taste it. For water, I've bought a bottle of water on the other side & used that. Hope that helps, or is it just more confusing now?!

kayz well done on the weight!

LadyThompson · 10/04/2009 10:47

Greetings from a sodden, closed Bilbao

Not one of my smarter ideas to book a trip to a Catholic country where everything is shut Thursday, Friday and Sunday. What a dum dum I really am.

On the plus side, there are hardly any tourists here so we are hanging with the Bilbos.

Had a quick scan and just wanted to get a message out to Kim re travel - if I type more my DP will get the hump as, much like Spot´s DP he doesn´t really get it. But anyway -

Usually liquids have to be in bottles of 100ml or less but they waive it for baby milk and medicines.

We had two made up bottles with us and DP had to taste them. If you are using cartons put them into bottles beforehand as it is easier.

Transport - they let you take them through, right up to the plane (but they put tags on them ready when you check in your luggage), then you fold them up and they get put in the hold and they just turn up on the carousel as normal, usually first. It is v civilised and this is Easyjet. We took the Bugaboo chassis and the Maxicosi car seat slotted on, so not small and in two parts.

DD was a little angel on the plane - not a peep, though she had her dummy for landing so her ears didn´t hurt. She hadn´t had a poo for TWO DAYS before we left but she added some excitement to the trip by doing one

  1. Just before we were about to leave the house at 3am
  2. Just before we were about to board the plane
  3. Just as we got off the plane
  4. Over lunch.

WG, I hope you get on ok in Italy too.

Must dash. Cheerio!

Kimberly1979 · 10/04/2009 11:12

ladyT Tilly Arti Sugar Thanks for all the info! It has helped a lot.

tilly where can I get one of the tubs with the separate compartments? I've been looking for one and so far haven't been able to find one.

Verso and Arti sorry to hear about your rubbish nights. Any chance of getting a nap today?

EffiePerine · 10/04/2009 12:01

LadyT: are there any Eastery things going on like parades or special services? Hope the weather perks up for you

Oops, DS just woke up, better go!

KinderEggKayzr · 10/04/2009 12:15

Someone is having a bonfire and we can't see out of the front windows. The whole raod is full of smoke.

Juat got back from having my hair done and it looks great. But town is heaving, there are some baby ducks and everyone is crowded round the beck watching them.
