Effie yeah, I think I will do that tonight - I might actually put him in the bath with me again. I've just put him back down, and so far can't hear anything... however I've positioned myself at the other end of the flat ok there he goes...... I'm going to leave him for 5 mins and see if he settles. yeah, I've noticed he isn't always latching too goo either. Not sure if it's laziness from the Expressed bottle at night or what... Only if I sort of hold it in his mouth will he feed properly

verso please don't be sad and don't believe a word about miracle sleeping babies - IMO sleeping babies are miraculous and we just have a bunch of normal babies who sleep erratically, feed erratically but are so adorable when they smile that all is forgiven (at least until the next whinge/wake/wind/whatever)

hatty one of the venues trace suggested for the meet up is pizza express, as they have crayons for older children. I think both trace and ros are bringing their DC1s, so your twins would have lots of entertainment - hope you can make it

kayz we've got lovely weather today, so I hope you have too and have managed to get away from your smelly heaters

I've just put DD in the bumbo for the first time - she's a bit wobble headed so I won't keep her in there for long, but she's fascinated by the world from this new angle and looks very cute

EffiePerine · 01/04/2009 15:50

Trace: don't say that about bottles! Still haven't got round to trying DS2 with EBM

traceface · 01/04/2009 16:14

Effie - I expressed 3oz this morning and gave it to a friend to give to P at her next feed (so she couldn't smell me!) but she point blank refused (P, not my friend!), so I ended up tipping the EBM away. doh. Maybe if I try every day she might get the hang of it [wishful thinking emoticon]. My friend suggested a more nipple shaped teat so I might try to see what I can find if I can make it to the shops one day.
Hatty - yay join us in York! Our options are Pizza Express or Slug and Lettuce - both child friendly. The Slug is more casual I guess but PE is good. Any thoughts? Zoe is it you that works for the tourist board?
Lu is currently in tears - she wishes "good" was spelt with "u" instead of "oo" - and apparently that's very upsetting!
Better give her a snack and get ourselves off to parents' evening!
see you later xxx

spotofcheerfulness · 01/04/2009 16:28

Trace, I think good should be spelled "ghud" so totally understand where L is coming from.

Veggiemummy · 01/04/2009 16:33

Ds1 made an amazing little chocolate nest with eggs at nursery and I want to eat it, am I bad

JollyBear · 01/04/2009 17:37

Hello all,

Oh yes hatty do join us! It would be lovely to meet your girls.

pmk What a night. I hope things improve. Re the dream feed, we're dropping it now as I discovered that it didn't prevent DD from waking up a few hours later for more.

veggie Your veg patch sounds lovely. I hope you are prepared for the pests though! We have a massive slug problem in our garden and can destroy a whole crop of little sprouting seedlings in one evening. A tip from Blue Peter is to cut a drinks bottle in half and use it as a sort of cloche (I nearly put coche then, that would certainly be another more violent way to control pests!). Beer traps are effective but rather gross to clean. I hate the idea of killing slugs and once collected them and put them in the Wheelie bin - rehoming to the tip. Within 15 mins they had formed a queue back to my precious bean seedlings.

trace Can you not start P on a cup soon? I think I read somewhere they can manage from 4 months. That would give you a break every now and again.

Arti How relaxing reading BR in the hot tub! Hope you had a good time.

ladyT It is odd what they laugh at. DD gurgling, babbling and squealing at the arm bit of her mobile this morning - the mobile itself wasn't there .

Oh no, I've burnt our tea!!!!! I've scooped the central bit out of the plan and will tell DH it is meant to have a flame grilled taste. I'll add more chilli, that should help I'd best open a few windows...

kayzr · 01/04/2009 17:57

Jolly I hope you can rescue your tea!!

Veggie You veg patch sounds great. We are still in the process of digging ours up. Going to plant some runner beans soon. My sunflowers seem to have died though

Have just been looking at the Slug and Lettuce menu and the food sounds delish but I will be good and have a salad.

Hope everyone has had a nice day today.

daisydora · 01/04/2009 18:05

Who said girls don't have terrible 2's?? DD bit me earlier Her behaviour this past few days has been a nightmare. She just doesn't listen to me and its really annoying as when DH is about she comes over all angelic

DS has just poo-ed all over the new carpets! I took his nappy off, went to get another by the time I got back what can only be described as a korma type sauce was seeping into my lovely pile, which resulted in me burning the tea whilst I cleaned it. So am feeling like doing a sybil and getting the cheerfulness out

verso no miracle baby here! He sleeps okish at night but hardly sleeps during the day if we are about the house. Today he has had 40 mins this morning, and 30 mins this afternoon. Which means he gets so cranky from 4pm that I can't put him down - its driving me mad!!!

trace second the cup my friends DC's never took a bottle but did great with the cup. At the moment DS won't take his bottle either despite having one from about 4 weeks for the odd feed, he now refuses. Can't be bothered forcing him so will probably just go straight to a cup and hope that works

daisydora · 01/04/2009 18:06

Right off to bath DS he smells

waitinggirl · 01/04/2009 18:11

pmk - been out all day so haven't replied, sorry. by middle of the night i mean anything from 12.30 - 4.30am. occasionally she may want a second feed, but that has only happened 3 times.

verso - so sorry about your troubled nights as well - all i can say is i am swaddling madam in her miracle blanket and it seems to work - and am too terrified to stop in case the magic stops working. i will sometime, of course, but will carry on for the moment. and don't forget, she wasn't a miracle baby for the first 3 weeks -- remember dh's talk of suicide??? i think it is the luck of the draw, really.

also, we are going to italy next week and are terrified she will kick off in a different cot (i.e. not the moses basket), so all hell could yet break loose.

hope all are well

waitinggirl · 01/04/2009 18:13

pmk = forgot to sat re: vomming - she isn't empty post vom, i think she has guzzled too much and is sorting herself out. she does vom all the ytime though, so we#re all used to it

Verso · 01/04/2009 18:27

I've uploaded a couple of new photos that made me smile .

Veggiemummy · 01/04/2009 18:44

JB i've put kitty litter around everything as that's what we used when I was a kid to stop slugs getting to the leaves etc as they can't slide across it. Eeew I hate slugs.

Oh my, ds1s chocolate nest he made at nursery is so yummy I'm trying to work out what it is made from it looks like a thin stringy cereal, maybe one of the high fibre ones.

EffiePerine · 01/04/2009 18:46

Veggie: prob shredded wheat (must make some Easter nests with DS1, wavering between shredded wheat and cornflakes)

EffiePerine · 01/04/2009 18:52

DS1 coughing and wheezing, DS1 in manic post-immunisation meltdown mood - could be a long night...

Veggie: what were the warning signs for c pox? DS1 has been exposed but no signs as yet, was wondering if coff and temp could be the start.

Veggiemummy · 01/04/2009 18:52

Oh of course didn't recognize them all crushed up, I'm going to buy some now I need to do an ocado shop anyway. I don't know if I'm just desperate for chocolate but it tastes amazing!!!! NEED MORE!!!! Bless ds1 keeps letting me have more, I love him so much sweet little man.

Veggiemummy · 01/04/2009 18:59

Oh Verso your children are beautiful, I want to give your DD a big cuddle she has such a beautiful face.

Effie def a temp and respiratory symptoms like runny nose etc as it is an airborne virus. When was he exposed. The time between the temp and spot coming out can be anywhere from a couple of hours to a day or two. But when the spots do appear they literally appear before your eyes. However has he ever had asthma in the past you mentioned he was wheezy and coughing?

Veggiemummy · 01/04/2009 19:02

Hey JB did your chilli addition work? Did you burn dinner because you were on MN?

Veggiemummy · 01/04/2009 19:08

Oh no nestle makes shredded wheat!!!!

daisydora · 01/04/2009 19:48

Right I'm in a strop now...MIL has taken DD to nephew's birthday party, said they'd be home at 7, still no sign and she's not answering her mobile (MIL, not DD that is). She knows DD goes to bed at 7, I only said she could go if she wasn't late given how naughty she has been today

EffiePerine · 01/04/2009 19:49

Veggie: the girl is getting over it now and back in circulation, so maybe a couple of weeks ago? He does get wheezy when he has a cough or cold, GP not sure if asthma but has prescribed ventolin for these circs, he's had a couple of puffs and is breathing better (think he has inherited my dodgy lungs)

DS2 not settling, better go and get him...

pmk1 · 01/04/2009 19:56

Verso your kids are really cute. I hope your day has improved.
Effie right, took him in the bath with me at 6pm - he realy relaxed and enjoyed it. BF and topped up with EBM as he was getting fussy again, and he is now in bed - cried for 2 minutes and now asleep. Will keep you posted.... Hopefully it not the calm before the storm, but things are serene at the moment......

JollyBear · 01/04/2009 20:04

Yup veggie DD was asleep on me and I was busy on MN . Chilli must have worked as amazingly it tasted fine, actually rather good. The pan is another matter, it'll take ages to get the half inch coating of carbon off it. It wasn't a magnificent tea in the first place just leftover chilli from last night with more vegetables and garlic added in to make a pasta sauce - DH commented that I'd have been good during the war, making rations last longer!

daisy Hope your tea wasn't too bad and you manage to get the 'stain' out of the carpet. Lakeland sell some good carpet stain removers.

I always think that Easter nests look better made with shredded wheat but taste better with cornflakes. Nestle get everywhere the buggers.

veggie Litter can work to deter slugs, I suppose it depends on how many of the blighters there are and how determined they are to scoff your produce. I think it is worse here as we live near an old mill pond as they've got past every barrier I've come up with, including smearing vaseline over containers!

verso Lovely photos, they looks so cute together.

Fingers crossed for you pmk

pmk1 · 01/04/2009 20:05

sorry bout my spelling actually typo really!
Daisy she needs a quiet chat your MIL - what's with these MIL's???
