if you do try disposables try moltex (unbleached so won't irritate further). The yellow cream always works for us but my brain is completely empty of the name of it...anyone else remember it? Looks like sunset yellow, smells like the bowels of hell? Put on thinly so you can still see some red underneath. Dunno why.

JFly · 14/07/2009 12:51

Metanium? That's what we use, too. Seems to help quite quickly.

G has the bottom from hell at the moment, too. I can't remember when he last had a solid poo. I called the GP to ask if he should come in, but with no other symptoms than runny poo, she said wait it out. After having a very long break from "he must be teething," I think I'm going back to it. It MUST be his teeth!

I'm going to whisper this so as not to anger the sleep gods but, G has been sleeping through for at least 4 nights in a row. I don't know what happened, but he seems to have come out the other side. I hope it lasts! No progress in weaning him but I'm picking my battles and I pick sleep!!

FfFf I can only imagine what it's like for you at the moment. Hope these last days go very quickly and the Bloke is home safe and sound in no time.

Am looking after another 16 month old tomorrow morning. Help me Rhonda!

Ewe · 14/07/2009 13:07

DD gets really bad nappy rash/thrush, we use teething powders to help tummy and then canesten and waitrose baby bottom butter. Also drying her bits with a muslin after wiping really helps and changing regularly.

HolidaysQueen · 14/07/2009 13:53

Thanks all - plan of action is to let the boy have oodles of nappy free time, wash and dry well and then raid Boots for all possible lotions and potions until one works

He always gets a bad bum with teeth, but this has been horrific, I guess because molars seem so protracted. Had baby friends round yesterday and both mums thought their LOs needed nappy changes when actually it's just because whenever DS wees, the ammonia stink is so nasty that it permeates everywhere If I changed with every wee he'd go through my supply of washables in half a day, but maybe that's the only way to help fix it! Fortunately he doesn't suffer hugely with teething pain, so at least we aren't dealing with pain at both ends.

JFly - a whispered woohoo from me

HQ- If you'd like a stack of prefolds to use at home I have a gazillion of them and you are welcome to them. Fab for home and RUBBISH for out and about.

Ah thanks Turtle, but I am very loyal to my Bumgenius Even DH, who refused to consider cloth and thought I was insane, is a convert and evangelises about them to work colleagues , so I daren't scare him by introducing anything else!

merryberry · 14/07/2009 18:11

Yes! Metanium! Never failed us yet, except in my memory. Ta

FfreckleFface · 14/07/2009 18:54

HQ that sounds horrible. We're pretty lucky in that respect, so nothing to add to the wise words of the others, but I hope it clears up soon.

Jfly, admit it-you really did steal some monkeys to run baby boot camp, didn't you? Have fingers crossed that it lasts for you.

merrypotter · 15/07/2009 11:59

sat down to post, can now hear baby. typical! good job he's cute. he watched a bit of bee story with his brother yesterday, then as his dad was putting him to bed, looked him straight in the eye, flapped his arms and said b-b-b-b-b-b-b-b-b-b-b-b-b, laughed and repeated loads. So cute!

HolidaysQueen · 15/07/2009 13:53

ah too cute, mb (or should that be mp!)

sore bottom abating a little here (thank you all!) but up 3 times last night. rotten teeth . still being a cutie though - latest for us is delight when he sees the pepper grinder. Much pointing and demanding of "pep-pa" on pasta, toast, cereal, banana etc. then proceeding to lick finger and use it to just eat the pepper!

crashfistfight · 16/07/2009 11:41

Oh man, they really are cute now aren't they?

I guess they have to cute it up between now and Le Two d'Terrible so parents can cope

can't make the Aug 5th meetup either as leaving for holiday the week prior. Ah well, I like getting to know these virtual little ones anyway...

Things are rolling along pretty smoothly on the DD front except for the early morning wakings. She usually wakes between 4:30-5 so am completely knackered by midday. Luckily DP and I alternate getting a lie in which has been the only reason I'm able to function.

JFly · 16/07/2009 13:44

OK, need your help lay-dees.

I need to DO something. Something interesting and vaguely productive (so as to get some childcare out of my DH). I'm considering a photography course, maybe portraiture or something broader.

As far as leaving G with a babysitter/nanny, would a short, intensive course of say 2 weeks be OK or should I go for a more traditional 5 or 10 week one-day-a-week effort? Is it better to spread out the childcare (and maybe the fun)?

Thing is, if I do a more traditional course, I'll have to wait until September. There are a few intensive courses available for August. More expensive, but sooner and that would also allow for more courses come Autumn.

What do you think??

merrypotter · 16/07/2009 19:07

i'd go spread out in autumn. when the world is closing into dark nights and routine old kiddie stuff and the summer of being out and about and making it up as you go along is done, it'll be wonderful to have something to engage you and look forward to. make your summer project finding the perferct thing to do? there is so much choice its mad

Dontpanic · 16/07/2009 20:39

Nappy rash - swear by aloe vera gel for everything, but it's brilliant on sore bums which LO has a lot of at the moment. He calms down when it goes on with much the same reaction as the unwrapping of an Ashton & Parson's powders. Slather it on a dry (clean!) bum.

turtle23 · 18/07/2009 07:17

Am obsessively checking phone and facebook. Very soon I am going to become a (gulp) GREAT AUNT. How is that possible?

OP posts:
Dontpanic · 18/07/2009 11:49

Turtle, am assuming you're a lot younger than your brother or sister, but that's VERY young to be a great-anything!

We're off to have photos done this afternoon at Venture Photography - anyone used them? Looks nice n bright, I really want one with all of us in it rather than just E! DH not impressed.

turtle23 · 18/07/2009 11:55

DP- DH's sister is 18 years older. Didn't know that you were a millionaire...Venture, eh?

OP posts:
Dontpanic · 18/07/2009 13:01

oh gawd, that expensive huh? Got a voucher for a free session & 7x5, or use the 7x5 value to upgrade.

turtle23 · 18/07/2009 14:01

DP- I wish you all the best at resisting My friend just spent £2000 with them and she is broke.

OP posts:
Dontpanic · 18/07/2009 14:34

eek, better get even more HB mums to book up then!

merrypotter · 18/07/2009 17:00

2k? What did they do??? Etch it in gold?

turtle23 · 18/07/2009 17:30

I was too busy laughing to ask. They are genius at prising money from people. Problem is that we al think our little ones are the most beautiful things on earth, don't we?

Speaking of which, we have just come back from a lovely afternoon in the park which (unfortunately) ended with DS skidding face first across some gravel. I think I cried more than he did. My beautiful baby...

OP posts:
Dontpanic · 18/07/2009 18:40

Poor P! He'll mend ok though won't he?

Photo session was fun, have been given the price list....
Go for viewing on Fri, bit like double glazing, we both have to be there, but it's only on weekdays 9-5. If they want money out of you, surely weekends and evenings are easier? Had some taken individually, me and DH as a couple & then the 3 of us in 2 sets of clothes, and some of E on his own. There will be too much choice.

JFly · 18/07/2009 21:26

I'll do ya'll for free (for my portfolio!) when I start my portrait photography business. Or at least give you a fat discount!

merrypotter · 18/07/2009 21:49

magic, so you can make me look 6 stone lighter, can you ?

Ff! Hoping you're having a wonderful time, welcome home Mr Ff
