LaT & Rubysmom - i had a belt for my spd, it helped for a while, then stopped helping and i found i was better off without it. I was given 2, one like a tubigrip that i tried and one more substantial that i was meant to wear over clothes, never used it though.
(could dig them out for you? though i got them on prescription so you should too)
Puch for a physio referral - the main thing as LaT says was exercises/how to move to stop the spd getting worse.
tips like:

  • bin bag on the car seat so you can swivel more easily and not twist yourself (handy if your waters go too!!)
  • keeping knees together as much as poss.
  • rolling over really carefully in bed, shifting yourself bit by bit, like a 10-point turn, lol.
others i can't remember...

G - can be if you want! we could do a summertime meet-up down here and go to the beach too
(though i really would have to tidy.....)

expat = expatriate
anyone who is living out of their own country, so anyone who's moved for work, etc.
sounds like dh could have done with a bump himself

LaTrucha · 09/02/2009 19:50

MrsMC - thankyou for the encouragement. It was so easy to get started being a mum in Aberystwyth, making ffriend etc even though I didn't know many people. I hadn't expected it to be so different here nor had I contemplated 6 motnhs without a friend to see. Sorry you're so exhausted. It's so frustrating when they won't eat properly, isn't it? And of course when they don't sleep. Haven't made up my mind yet about the doctor. It's £41 Euros per month to join the local private health clinic for me and the baby (she can't join on her own). You get 24 hour care and call outs plus consults etc. It's pretty tempting, I must admit.

Ruby'smom - I can't find the exact one I had so I'm reluctant to make a link for you, but it was essentially an elasticated wrap with a velcro fastening. I have found several kind of similar, but as I say, I haven't use dthem so can't recommend one. It did help a lot though.

JKS - LOL at H taking his trousers off! Thanks for you kind words. I managed a trip to the supermakret today!

I'm going to have to finish this off later as I'm being summoned to dinner.

I lost my temper with Sabela earlier and now I'm feeling like a right cow. And DH hgas done no work due to various wife and baby related things.

Lilyloo · 09/02/2009 20:21

Has the bad weather materialised for any of you ?
We had quite a bit of snow last night but it all melted today , just left with frozen ice from last weeks snow!

LaT agree sounds like a great idea why does dh not think so ?

MrsMc sorry to hear you not well. The 4head stuff is good though!

MrsMcJnr · 09/02/2009 20:22

Gingeme ? what?s Roselola? Sounds like a girl?s name LOL at G looking like a drunk monkey that is EXACTLY how you?d describe my DS?s walking, very funny and soooo cute! Wish I could come on Weds! LOL at your fury with DH and the phone, men!! Caught X standing on the TV table today having climbed up and he was banging on the screen ? now that would get his Daddy going!

Mixedmama ? poor DS2, horrible! and sorry to hear about your DB you have a lot going on right now!

JKS ? I?ve always been an ex-oat too (or Colonial as I like to put it ) thanks for the advice on the 4head, never tried it, doubt I could get it here and very kind of you to offer to send me some . I have a friend going back to the UK next week and she offered to do a Boots run for me so I?ll add it to the list glad to hear your Mum beat the cancer, must have been very scary for you all

LaT ? wow, Sabela sounds hungry! Tried to find your post on Mumsinspain where did you post it and did you use your MN name? I am sure there are ladies near you that I have spoken to in the past I have a friend (older, no kids) who has a place in Murcia, I am sure she is friendly with a young family there, I?ll ask her.

I am feeling very guilty I seem to only eat crap these days, I make sure that DS has lots of fruit and veg etc and then forget about my own food which means I am effectively making B2 go without too ? I feel awful about it and must make more of an effort to eat better. I miss M&S food, it was easy when I was pg with DS; little punnets of fruit, flapjacks etc

Madmouse & Rubysmum - I have missed your woes, I hope all is ok with you both and the babies x

Where's Lucky today? and Lily and Simpson for that matter?

LaTrucha · 09/02/2009 20:38

Mixedmama - CP sounds horrible. You must be exhausted. Very difficult with your brother too. I've found that my Dad just can't help being himself with my brother. I've suggested how he might change - I haven't said a great deal - but it doesn't do any good anyway. He's just terrified for his son. I'm pretty sure I'd be as bad if it were Sabela. I'm sure you're right about the exercise. You live in North London don't you? I wa sthinking about golf, or something like that, but it might be a bit tricky where you are.

Gingeme at the shoes! Sabela is having a go withthe clothes but so far she has only taken an arm or a leg in or out. She also thinks that is she, fro example, picks up her trousers and puts them on her legs, then they are on

Lilyloo - where are yoo?

Madmouse - Sorry to hear about your MIL. Are you far away from her? It's so worrying when parents / in law get frail. Scary moment withthe monitor. We got one with a sensor but I never used it. She was in her moses basket the first 5 months and then I didn't put it in the cot because she moves around so much I knew she'd move off it and I'd freak out so I totally understand the panic!

LaTrucha · 09/02/2009 20:42

MrsMc - I posted under general chat I think as there didn't seem to be anything under WLTM. I posted as Susanna as the name is in my email address and I thought it would have less potential for confusion. Don't worry about the eating as far as the baby is concerned. Little MissMc will take everything she needs, even if it leaves you with nothing. What about having lots of yoghurt / grapes / nuts and things in the house so yo can graze?

madmouse · 09/02/2009 21:11

Hi all

I could cry, I really could. And I already have several times today. I am soooooo happy

We went to see Nathan's consultant in Oxford. She has not seen him for six months and she got so excited she was bouncing around

Her findings:
Yes he has cerebral palsy on one side. He will walk, maybe with a stick maybe not.

But she cannot find ANYTHING ELSE wrong with him

She thinks that:
He will go to mainstream school
There is no reason to believe he will have any intellectual impairment
His language skills are as they should be or slightly ahead
His risk of epilepsy is not 50/50 as I thought but twice the normal risk, so about 5%
Socially he is just an amazing little boy [her words ]

Nathan did perform really nicely. She said I suppose he cannot bang two blocks together. I said he can as long as we hold on of them. So she pushes a block in his weak hand too and mister starts bashing them together making mummy out to be a liar

When she said he was doing so well because of us dh started to cry aah bless him.

Will post about some other things once i have calmed down a bit.

xxx

LaT I needed medical care when I lived in Spain (infected insect bite ) - the doctors I saw were great and the hospital spotless.

As for the expat reaction thing, we used to sit around in bars complaining about the lack of decent tea and moaning about the Catalans and their funny habits. Bunker mentality. It was only when I got to grips with the lingo did I make Spanish friends and get away from all that a bit. But I was 25 and carefree then - a different kettle of fish!

It's all about the extended family in Spain isn't it, it's a hard thing to break in to and if you meet people who have broken free of the extended family ties they tend to be regarded as oddballs! One of my students was really ashamed cos her daughter left home at 25 and moved in with a boyfriend .

I hope you get to meet another mum in similar situation in Murcia - there's got to be someone out there!

AngeChica · 09/02/2009 21:17

X post - wonderful news Madmouse.

simpson · 09/02/2009 21:19

Madmouse -
yaaaaay

That is great news

You and DH must be over the moon!!

LOL at Nathan bashing bricks together!!

Reminds me of DD's last hosp appt when pead asked about pincer grip and I said no she hasn't done it yet....then low and behold she picked up a blueberry using pincer grip for first time in front of pead!!

Lilyloo · 09/02/2009 21:23

Fab news MM have little lump in my throat

Cheers Simps

To Nathan and his proud mummy and daddy...

madmouse · 09/02/2009 21:24

thanks gals

simpson I know you cook your own pasta suace for dd, I do mostly but sometimes I use Cow and Gate pouches of sauce. They are tasty and quick to make something with. The tomato and six veggies one is labelled 'no added milk or lactose' and the casserole one (which I think is scrummy!)has nothing in the ingredient list that suggests dairy. Did not check the cheese sauce label

simpson · 09/02/2009 21:28

Madmouse - how bizzare is that!! I have bought loads today!!

Have got: apple, parsnip & pork one and the Mediterranean veggie sauce one.

Someone told me to stay away from the chicken gravy one although no dairy/soy listened

Do you think I can freeze them? Have bought white fish I am going to cook with mashed potato & broccoli, peas & carrots.

simpson · 09/02/2009 21:29

Oh have checked mine are the heinz ones...

The casserole one sounds good...will have to hunt it down.

madmouse · 09/02/2009 21:31

simpson i have never seen those flavours, where did you buy them? I tend to freeze everything. Can't see why not.

LuckySalem · 09/02/2009 21:32

MM - That is beautiful news!! I'm so happy for you. You've actually brought a tear to my eye reading about that. Good on ya Nathan!!!

simpson · 09/02/2009 21:34

Madmouse - they are the heinz ones and I got them from sainsburys.

Where did you get the casserole one from? DD would love that one!!

Was it the JR hosp you went to in Oxford? Tis near where my Gran lives.

madmouse · 09/02/2009 21:37

simpson tesco, 2 for £1 at the moment.

sometimes lactose is used in cheap chicken to retain the water they use to bulk it out. Could that be it? Not a big fan of Heinze baby food.

simpson · 09/02/2009 21:43

2 for £1 is a good price the heinz ones are 75p each

TBH I boycotted heinz for a long time after farley milk fiasco but did not realise that other companies made these sauces and relented and bought them today ...

Am going to tesco tomorrow anyway so will have a look....

LuckySalem · 09/02/2009 21:45

I had a lovely day today at my mums Aaliyah took her drawings for their birthdays (both parents) and then we had lamb roast for dinner mmmmmm.

simpson · 09/02/2009 22:06

Lucky - glad you had a good day. Did the drawings go down well?

Lilyloo - weather here very wet Tis bucketing down, but no snow yay!! Am sick of the white stuff!!

Hope there is none next week when its half term...

Lilyloo · 09/02/2009 22:21

It snowing again here [bored emotion]

Although have to dd1 and dd2 went down our hill to car via sledge pulled by me and ds this am for the school run! M loved it and ds asked if i would pull him when he came home from school he nearly as big as me! Thankfully it had melted by then!

OP posts:
simpson · 09/02/2009 22:40

Phew you got out of that one

We have a lovely wooden sledge in our shed courtesy of my mum, it was mine when I was little.

DS desperate to use it. Needless to say I am not as I will be doing the pulling etc...
