Naetha - don't get your hopes up too much - Amlie has had 1 tbsp baby rice with 4 tbsps milk mid-afternoon for the last 3 days - only on one of those days was she any better at night! sigh... Saying that, she was happier in the evening, so I'm beginning to reclaim the evenings rather than playing pass-the=baby. Hats off to any single mums or mums with unsupportive DPs - I'd be crawling the walls if I didn't have some help.

talking of green poos made me think - it must have been a mum who coined the phrase "seven shades of sh*t" as I think I've seen them all now!

LuckySalem · 25/04/2008 10:47

Right well, probably rushing her so have cut back abit but...... Aaliyah has had baby rice for tea (at 6) for the last 2 days and banana sunshine (porridgy type stuff) for breakfast (at 9) and some really watered down apple juice as a treat (at 12)

She's sleeping abit better but mainly during the day not at night (and the little buggar won't wake up when I try) she's WAY happier... always smiling now.

As I feed her she steals the spoon and does it herself. As long as I load it up she gets at least 2/3rds in her mouth... the other 1/3rd goes on her eyes, her nose, her hands etc etc etc. = To me this means she's ready if she's putting in her mouth herself.

Im abit worried she's had too much too soon, so today I gave her rice in the morning as well and i'm not giving her any juice.

I've had a quick look but for some reason can't remember anything I read! - sorry

Hope your all ok. xxx

lilyloo · 25/04/2008 13:23

Naetha 16 weeks is def growth spurt time and is apparantly one of the harder ones to get through, this time Martha has had lot's of feeds at growth spurt times 3,6,12 and am prepared for 16 should be just when we go on hols i never found weaning helped any of mine sleep better.

OP posts:
Amani · 25/04/2008 15:21

Just a quickie - thanks for that info re: growth spurts, DD2 started to wake 2/3 time at night for a feed now. Introduced baby rice which has not made a jot of difference to her night waking. I made the mistake of giving her a thick-ish paste which she rejected initially, but now gobbles it down when it is a more milky consistency.

Naetha - intesresting about the coil.

gingeme · 25/04/2008 16:31

Hi ladies.
I never found weaning helped any of mine sleep better either though George is definately my best sleeper
He has a disgusting cold and a horrid cough. Actualy gave him some Medised last night. It helped him sleep and breath a little better as it has an anti histamine in it and dried up his snot a bit. I swear by it when theyre teething
Lol at 7 shades of s**t. Its amazing how it varies considering they eat/drink the same stuff day in day out!
Changing the subject a bit. I tried to get on the Weight Watchers web site last night and it says this page cannot be displayed!. Any one know why?

Fragolina · 25/04/2008 16:56

Thanks for the hugs guys - am over my food poisoning/stomach bug/whatever it was, and much happier! Naetha - so exciting about Trinny and Susannah, good luck. Housemum - looking forward to seeing lo in the Mamas and Papas catalogue. Wow on the weightloss mnixedmama, so impressed! Gingeme - hope lo feels better soon. Susie - well done for venturing out after the drama! Ange - re: the swaddling, I tuck the sheet and blankets under her ribs on either side quite tightly, but leave her arms out, and loose around the legs - seems to have worked fine.
Lilyloo about your other thread - definitely write a letter, that could have been really dangerous!
OK, am off to update my profile with some baby pics

gingeme · 25/04/2008 19:55

Fragolina just beautiful

madmouse · 25/04/2008 19:58

Fragolina, what a cutie. Men of the world watch out!

katyt1 · 25/04/2008 20:56

cute pics fragolina
trinny & susannah - fingers crossed!
m&p modelling - wow!

as usual haven't posted for too long.

ok here, ds2 just one feed last night, ds1 up at 5.30 again.

tired, fat, fed up, frumpy, nothing new there then...

have signed up for 13mile walk in july, have to get pounding the streets.

no signs of rolling here, ds1 didn't for a while longer. easier without rolling tbh as it means i can leave him and not worry...yet.
will sit supported tho but not for long, loves to 'stand' on your lap. started playing peekaboo today, he loves it.

Amani · 25/04/2008 20:56

Talking of Medised (Gingeme) tried to buy some Asda a few days ago for DD2 (4 mths) and they refused to sell it to me because the guidelines have changed and it can only be given to children 2yrs+ now

katyt1 · 25/04/2008 20:58

i thought that 2+ rule for was for cough meds?
Do you think asda might have got it wrong? or just being overzealous applying new rules?
I haven't used medised but have been told the same main ingredient is in calpol night, try that?

lilyloo · 25/04/2008 21:48

Bless lo Gingeme hope he better soon, you just can't keep them away from germs like you can when they have no siblings, although if they get it all now it stops them having loads of time off ill from nursery, pre school, school etc.
Frag loving the pics she v.cute!
Katie you feeling so down on yourself cheer up girl you are amazing even considering that walk!
I have been out today and bought wii fit. It's really good i have done 25 min today of yoga and aerobics all in my front room. I was my bmi was fine but a bit that my fitness age was 42 !

Realy Amani? It says from 3 months on the box and I didnt buy it that long ago. Mind you I only give at night time plus I think its good cause you can put it in their milk so you havn't got to try to catch it from running down their chins when they spit it out. Wonder why theyve changed it then.

Lilyloo - i'm happier today just never had a big problem with weight/fat before and am finding it hard to adjust to be more overweight than ever, and having that feeling of hating parts of my body. it's all silly really, dh hasn't said a thing and i'm still able to walk round the supermarket thinking to myself "i'm thinner than you and i've got 2 under 2's" !

gingeme - the health warning about some meds came out a few weeks ago but i don't remember which meds were on the list. it wasn't that they were harmful for under two's apparently just that some people couldn't give the right dose
nanny state anyone?....

i've found the little plastic syringes work best for giving them meds, you can measure better and get it down them better!

sitting in garden with ds2 in bouncer, i'm surfing with new laptop, ds1 still sleeping, will have to go and check in a mo tho, been 2 hours.
love the sunshine

madmouse · 26/04/2008 16:28

Hello

Nathan and I went to the nearly new sale on the bus today. Sitting up in the pushchair too . He did really well, smiling despite having various strangers coochicooing and touching him (dirty fingers, smokers aaargh fussy mummy be quiet ). As soon as we entered the hall a lady said to me aah he looks a bit alarmed. Looked at him and saw this terrified little face! It was very busy, just started. Put him flat int he pushchair but he went into meltdown so parked the pushchair counting on the goodness of strangers and carried him round. Had to put him back in to check out, and he wailed himself silly. Fell asleep as soon as we got outside so thought bless him, he has had enough so walked home, the whole hour , well good for the old fat stores. Had a brief breastfeed in the park. Nathan was puzzled by the wind and found it a bit hard to concentrate .

Tomorrow we have a thanksgiving for him in the church where dh will work from June. He is considering baptising Nathan himself this summer. Godparents have long been chosen. Our closest friends and friends who became closer when they supported us when Nathan was ill (their ds was born very ill too).

Well, enough waffle, sorry. Hope you are all having sunshine today.

mixedmama · 26/04/2008 17:31

Hey ladies

Just logging on to say hiya....

Started my job yesterday, and it was ok... just information overload./.. apprently the lady training us was expecting us at 8 which would mean working from 8-6.... i think not thanx.

WW is fab Gingeme and I find the points system works best for me (but i have only been doing it for 3 weeks). I am (hopefully) on my way to a 4 pound loss this week which will bring me to 11 stone and 12 pound lost then i am happy to lose 1-2 lb per week as you are supposed to. Seems to be mainly about portion size and things... but the going and getting weighed really helped... I couldnt do it online either.

lilyloo · 26/04/2008 20:58

Gingeme wouldn't worry if it says 3 months on box.

Mixedm glad first day on the job went well it always takes time to get into things !

Madm at Nathan getting scared at his first nn sale. Bless him then a bf in the wind bet he exhausted tonight. What a lovely idea for his dad to baptise him i bet that will be a really special moment for him bearing in mind Nathan's entry to this world.

Katy so glad you happier today. I know what you mean about your body. We bought the wii fit yesterday and although my bmi and weight is back to pre pg i am still at my stomach and know now it will never look as it used too. I am also dreading giving up bf as at the moment i have quite a decent norkage but i was never happy with them after bf two dc's so they will be non entities after bf 3
It has been sunny here today and warmish so me and dd went to the park and i pushed Martha in the pushchair and dd pushed her dolly so we had a girls afternoon. Ds wasn't quite so happy as he went to see the last match of the season at home with his dad , man city, and they lost despite being 2-0 up with 20 min to go so he not happy tonight.
for Martha now she has dont lot's of poos today and did two in the night her little bum is so red, think it must be the abs but her infection looks a little better.

Hope everyone else

barristermum · 27/04/2008 09:21

Hi all, hasn't it been busy? I have had friends staying - with a 7 month ols baby and it was lovely to see Cerys and her getting to know each other. When we introduced them they held hands and smiled at each other - made her mum and I who were friends at school together get quite choked up!

Loving all the modelling plans from bf calendars to catalogues etc.
Bravo on the weight loss MM and Gingeme - I did WW years ago and found it really good, but can't seem to get my head around it now. Perhaps should start thinking about it as am starting to feel a little conscious of general bulk. Sounds silly tho' but don't really want to diet in front of DH -he cares not at all about whatever size I am and it has so interfered with my happiness in the past that I don't want to make it something he thinks I'm even bothered about iykwim. But you are doing brilliantly MM. Katy - you do NOT look like someone who has had 2 kids - cut yourself some slack!
Lily - outraged about your consumer problem - tell them about the response you got on mumsnet and how you would like to be able to tell us all how appropriately they responded as otherwise thousands of mothers will boycot them!

Ginge, I'm an ebay addict and have just started selling stuff - really easy to do and quite addictive seeing the bids come in!

Lovely photos Frag!

Madm - poor nathan getting overwhelmed at sale! Cerys got scared by a loud sniff of mine this morning just as we were having a cuddle before her morning nap - their little mouths turn down so comically don't they.
Cerys had a big day yesterday - I had a day long course for work in Wincheser so Daddy and she had a daughter/daddy bonding day. DH swore it was coincidence that when I came thru the door at 6pm she was screaming fit to be tied, and they seemed to have had a lovely day. I missed her SO much - longest I've ever been away but thought I might as well start preparing for 2 weeks time. Funny, felt good being back in some ways, even tho' I did miss her so much.

Ange - on the swaddling we weaned Cerys off 1 arm at a time - first during her daytime sleeps and fully swaddled at night, then one arm all the time, then both arms in daytime sleeps and one arm at night and then both arms out all the time. We tried cold turkey and it was just too traumatic for us all!

Can I ask pushchair advice? We have a Jane which we love and at the moment are using the pram part of it as it has a carrycot that she sleeps in and which is also a car seat in which she can lie flat. Her head control is excellent tho' obviously not when asleep and car journeys still make her nod off. I am wondering whether to convert it into pushchair - which can be used from birth so her age not a problem. Pros seem to me it would be nice for her to start looking around on walks and we are going to the Cotswolds next weekend for some long tramps. But might it all be a bit much for her and she want the comfort quiet and privacy of her pram rather than be open to all the elements? We have a separate car seat but am wondering how long she should be in that at her age. Any thoughts?

Off to church now!

gingeme · 27/04/2008 14:04

Afternoon ladies.
We had a lovely day yesterday. Went to our local shopping mall in the morning to replace the boys wooden toy box as its been fixed so many times its getting a bit dangerous now. Got two large plastic tubs with lids. Much better. Also bought ds5 a very cute little summer cap and a new changing bag as the top of the new one split along the zip
Then in the afternoon we were invited to a BBQ at a friends I havn't seen for a while. The two bigger boys had great fun in her garden and came home filthy
Havn't decided about WW yet. My friend told me I look pretty good for someone with 5 kids. I don't know who it was who said it but I also think to myself when I see 'larger' ladies I am slimmer than you and I have given birth to 5 children .
Thats terrible isn't it?
Well you know that saying when it rains it pours? Ds 3 and 5 are now gettin over there colds. Just a horrid lingering cough, well ds4 has chicken pox . He has a cluster of blistery type spots on his right leg just under his bum cheek it is now spread down his leg and he has some under his chin and along his arms so I definately think its the pox.
Ah well the joy of parenting eh

katyt1 · 27/04/2008 14:33

gingeme - twas me i feel mean admitting to walking about and making these judgements, but it's only to make me feel better really! i don't judge people i know who are 'perhaps a little on the bigger-than-they'd-like-to-be size' so it only works with total strangers, who of course may have 20 kids back home, or some terrible medical condition.....

glad you had a good day tho. we've just been into town, bought myself some new shoes (not really needed but nice for the summer!) and a couple of tops from topshop - tho they are size-ist in there, hardly anything bigger than a 12!
then we had lunch in nando's, ds1 even managed to do really well. now hes napping, ds2 is half-asleep on the sofa and we are watching waking the dead.

bad luck re chickenpox will ds5 get it do you think? has ds3 had it already? i've heard that calamine lotion actually makes things worse....

barristermum - well done on selling some bits, i keep meaning to, any tips before i start???
only 2 weeks left? i kind of wish i had a job i loved that i wanted to get back to but on the other hand i love being at home (most of the time anyway!)

nicky - hope you are better now? sounds like the dreamfeed is really working for you then? my MIL keeps saying i should do it - tho she knows nothing about bf anyway - but i never did with ds1 so haven't tried it yet.

lily - we So want the Wii! and to try the fit thing. dh has decided we should just get my younger bro to find us a good deal and get it asap!
i was only an A cup before (& between) kids so expect to go back to that, actually i prefer being smaller, think big ones just get in the way
hope martha's infection keeps clearing up.

mixedm - you are doing so well on the weight loss, well done! good luck with the job

madm - happy thanksgiving for nathan day

right, best concentrate or this programme will make no sense!

AngeChica · 27/04/2008 18:51

Hi barristermum, have left one arm out of swaddling last couple of nights and it's going OK!

I have the Loola pushchair which is reversible, and have it facing me but not in the lie flat position any more, as Alek was definitely getting bored. It cushions him like a car seat so I don't see the difference. It's no good on rough terrain so I use the baby carrier lots on country walks instead, as some of the paths are not accessible otherwise. Haven't turned him facing outwards yet though.

Gotta go, DS has been a right grump today (teeth I think - have been using Anbesol, so much better than bonjela!).

lilyloo · 27/04/2008 19:48

Nicky sounds like the christening went well, i am still planning ours thinking of June if the vicars free, am very Charlie is sleeping through i am happy if we only get two wake ups the longest we have had is 8-3 !

Bmum are you back in two weeks, that time has just flown. Good idea about getting back into it though. Where are you staying next weekend ? Ihave never been there but have heard it's lovely!

Gingeme poor ds with chicke pox now. Dd1 had it and was very poorly but ds was fine so hoping it's like that for you. Isn't it so much nicer when the sun shines and you can all get outdoors esp having barbecue!

Katy would def reccomend the wii. I wasn't bothered tbh but mil bough us it for xmas. Ds and dp use it a lot but i haven't been that interested until now but am loving th wii fit esp the step class haven't done one of them since having the dc's

Ange so that the one arm swaddlig working for you, good tip there! Will also bear in mind the teething stuff as never found bonjela made any difference.

Well today i have made dc's try all their summer stuff on for our hols. We go to Lanzarote 4 weeks today. And everything fit from last year for dd1 and ds and what about this for great timing, dd1 was born 13 Jan and dd2 18 Jan so al her summer stuff has been passed on to Martha and will fit so haven't got to get much at all! Might even be able to treat myself
We have also been in the loft too and brought down all the rattles and a big ring to sit in for Martha, we have washed them all and they are all drying as she seems really interested in other things now although she can't hold anything yet unless dc's put things in her hands!

Afternoon all,

Well this baby rice thing is working. I know I said I was going to cut back on things but i've left it and she's SO happy. She's giggling and squealing ALL the time. It's lovely.

We're having our first night away from her next month. We've got some tickets to see Nina Conti in Liverpool and my parents are looking after her for the evening so we can stay in Liverpool. I'm kinda looking forward to it but not sure if i'll be able to stop worrying. My mum has forbid me from calling to check on her........ guess i'll have to txt her

Hope everyone is ok. XXX
