Hi all

After two miserable evenings of colic peace reigned again last night . Nathan had a bit of a cry but hey he is a baby . He was asleep, fed and all by 10 and woke up for feeds at 2 and 5.40, then slept through dh's giving him his meds until 8.30 when I was getting dressed. The most distressing thing about colic is when he is obviously hungry but every time he tries to drink the air in his tummy moves audibly and he starts to scream.

He is making the most adorable cooing sounds now (agah, awah, arah) and a particular fave is lying next to my breast after feeding with a really soft expression on his face, smiling and repeating agah over and over again and waiting for me to respond. Lilyloo, need any motivation for breastfeeding? .

Treated myself to a pricey pair of really comfy 'walk behind the pushchair' shoes (Mephistos, french brand, 'proper' walking shoes but these are disguised as funky green and white trainer types) and tried some situps this morning (small ones) PATHETIC . Oh well, it will come back. {hopeful emoticon]

Naetha · 09/04/2008 13:21

Hiya all, sorry I've been so bad at keepingup with you all - I barely have time to read everything, let alone post a reply!

Ben is doing absolutely great - 15lbs 8oz at 13 weeks, and he's just started dropping a feed at night. He now goes from 7pm (well ish - can be anytime from 6:30 to 8:30!) until about 4am - this morning it got to 4:20, and I had to wake him up to feed as I needed to express anyway, and didn't want him crying when I was stuck downstairs doing my dairy cow impression!

He's really getting good with his co-ordination and is grabbing things with both hands (he nearly pulled a toy elephant off his baby-gym last night!). However, I think he's started to teethe as his fists are always in his mouth (and anything else he can grab!) and he's getting red-cheeked and quite grumpy on occasion.

He's got his second round of jabs this afternoon (a bit late as I forgot to book them!) and then this weekend we're going down to Aberystwyth for my grandparents' 60th wedding anniversary. Susie - I would have loved to meet up with you for a coffee/chat, but unfortunately it's only going to be a flying visit so I'm not going to be able to do anything other than the family duty I'm afraid! I'm sure we'll be down there again though (my mum and nain and taid live there!), so I'm sure we'll have more opportunities!

The other thing is that I'm going to a casting session for Trinny and Susannah's - Undress the Nation! It's the episode on colour as I have a tendency to wear black and hardly anything else! I'm really hopeful that I'll get through as I could do with my wardrobe sprucing up!

Right, his lordship is whinging - bored of his mobile already, so I'd better give him some attention - I make it sound like such a hardship, but he gives me some awesome smiles!

lilyloo · 09/04/2008 14:41

afternoon all just thought i would share my fumnny story this am with you. We were at play area this morning and i8 had just bf lo and then went to get dd a drink from the cafe. I was stood in the queue when a lady behind me pointed out i had dropped something i look down and it's my breast pad ! Hasten to say i thanked her picked it up and made a quick get away!

susiemj · 09/04/2008 20:17

LOL lilyloo - let's hope she didn't know what it was!

Glad you had a peaceful night after colic madmouse. Glad you're both enjoying the bfing.

Hope you enjoy yourself Naetha. Be great to see you perhaps next time and cure myself of my 'meet up' envy. 60 years is fantastic! I hope you all have a ball.

Sabela had her second set of injections today. She didn't cry as much as last time. She's been really sleepy and clingy all day and is giving it some with the crying right now but I hope she won't react any more. She did last time. She had a patch of blood on her suit near her jab - it made mummy

She's still a little lady but she's gone up on the 'centile' thing on the chart. She's much higher on the 'length' scale than on the weight. Well, I guess tall and thin is not a bad thing to be in this life!

katyt1 · 09/04/2008 20:44

Oh darn it have got so far behind don't think i can manage a catch-up - will have to let lilyloo do it

h weighed yesteday, 13,12 so still on his own line btw 50 & 75 %.
all well, going for his first jabs tomorrow - we have put them off cos he's had a sniffle but he's 11wks now so i think that's long enough. the sniffle still hasn't gone but hey it's not serious. tho i will check with the nurse anyway.
so best dig out the calpol ready...
he's slept through twice, but not in a row so not a pattern yet. the other nights it's only been one feed so pretty good going really.
i was up expressing at 5 am the other night tho as i couldn't sleep and gave up waiting for him! read MN whilst i was waiting for steriliser, some people really don't sleep!

like to point out that i wasn't cleaning the loft, just sorting out the piles of boxes
tho have been doing weird cleaning bits recently, would think i was nesting if i was pg - and no there's no chance of that!!
started my pill this morning tho hooray cerazette - anyone else on it?

re godparents - i would say to family that you know they will be there for your child anyway, having friends for godparents just increases the number of people to look out for LO...?

baby salsa sounds fab - will have to look for one near here.

BWmum - so of your trip. have spent time in SA before and would love to be out there with the kids.

Gingeme - still busy? hope all well.

fillybuster - like the new name gym i'm impressed
don't think my stomach muscles went back to gether before getting pg again ah well...

hi toomanyshoes

betterhalf - nice pics

right, off for ice-cream & chocolate, giving up on the weight-worrying thing for now, will see what happens when H starts to drop feeds....

katyt1 · 09/04/2008 20:45

ps lily - been there

pps the loft is FILTHY i should give it a clean, anyone else have a filthy loft?

lilyloo · 10/04/2008 09:55

Gingeme , Lucky hope you have managed to get things sorted with other halfs to get a bit of a break.

Toomany well done on keeping up with the bf so far it must be very difficult when your supply can't keep up !

Better Toby is lovely

Frag well done you, think i would have given up much sooner and rearranged the apt

Nicky i would let Charlie take the lead tbh. I find they do have their own routine as Martha wakes bang on 6.30 every morning. Is that bedtime feed at 7.30 too late for you ? If so maybe just try bringing feeds forwrad 5 min every day. I do last feed after bath too. Hope you had nice day at mums.

Susie she looked quite embarassed so not sure what she thought it was So glad Sabela better with her 2nd set of injections hope Martha the same.

Katy lol at you with the loft. Wish i felt like cleaning the house is tip and am really not bothered. dd at nursery today so am going to attempt to get on top of it before baby massage if i get off here
Good luck with first jabs.

Hope everyone else ok
I just got apt for Martha next injections for next week but we away so wil have to rearrange !
Anyone else lo's sleep gone to pot at night we now back to every two hours from 11 onwards and i am very tired !

Madm the noises they make are lovely aren't they. Don't you wonder what they trying to say.
Well done on the sit ups and getting walking shoes sounds like you mean buisness

Naetha wow he is virtually sleeping through then, well done Ben. Have lovely weekend is that Wales Do let us know how you get on with Trinny and Susannah souns fab ! Take Ben along how could they refuse then Hope jabs weren't too bad !

Hi ladys sorry havn't read any of the thread. Have had a few horrible days here with ds3's sickness. Hes been so so poorly. Much better today thanks goodness. Hes had his cereal and a banana and biscuits today and is about to have dippy egg for lunch.
Trouble is ds5 has picked it up . He bought most of his feeds up Tuesday and had some realy mesy nappys.
Took him to the docs yesterday morning and she said to give him water little and often and slowly introduce milk half water half milk. He is alot better today and seems to be holding it all in so to speak. Oh and hes still sleeping through. 8-6am
Well off to the park soon. Need to get out the flat. Havn't been out for 5 days. Going stir crazy.......

lilyloo · 10/04/2008 14:54

glad ds is on the mend and fingers crossed ds5 won't be as bad!
Bet you desperate to get out i hate being cooped up.
We just back from baby massage. I took ds and he loved it he massaged Martha by himself and was a really good help when she was sick all over me.

OP posts:
fillybuster · 10/04/2008 18:00

Hi all,

Not sure if this helps but my mother has told me that she was told to count 'thru the night' as follows:

The aim is to get from a 10/11pm feed to 6am morning feed.

Anything after 4am counts as a morning feed...so they've 'gone through the night' altho you are allowed to put them back down for a few hours after the feed and go back to bed !

I quite like the flexibility in that.... She was bollocking me for complaining that Tamara has generally been 'only' going from 11pm ebm bottle to around 6/6.30 (and then was waking at 5am for 3 days in a row and wouldn't settle back properly) and I regard 7.30am as morning (7.15 is just about acceptable...)...apparently I'm being unreasonable ! Trouble is that ds slept through from 11-7.30 from about 8 or 9 weeks so I kind of expect the same from her....yes yes, I know, every child is different....

Anyway, I agreed with my mum that if she woke at 5am again last night I would give her a full feed and go back to bed, instead of trying to get her to go through a bit longer....

...

...

...she slept until 7.15 this morning! Of course I was lying awake bursting with milk (and needing the loo) from 6am but didn't dare to move!

Spent the whole afternoon (12-4) in Brent Cross shopping centre looking for a nice skirt and top outfit for synagogue (its passover in a week or so and none of my old clothes fit yet)...couldn't find a single thing I liked ...even went into the expensive shops like Jigsaw that I don't normally bother with....very disappointed and have amazingly sore feet right now!!!

Gingeme - really hope ds's 3 & 5 get better soon, must have been a really tough few days

Katy - if we had an attic it would be a tip. It was, until we turned it into a spare room just before Tamara was born. Now its spotless and is our 'adult escape' space in the house Although there's a growing mound of 'clothes to be ebayed' in the corner

Naetha - quick expressing question...how do you cope with the lactaline pump bottles being so small? I find if I stop and start to empty them it takes me ages to get going again...

Right, hugs to all, got to run xxx

barristermum · 10/04/2008 19:36

Hi all,
On the food front have just eaten an entire box of fat-free cinnamon flatbreads whilst catching up with everyone's news here after a relatively virtuous day - still at least they were fat free. And as for exercise - walking is as much as I can ever motivate myself to do.

Godparents is a toughie isn't it? A whole family feud was started when my parents didn't make my aunt a godparent to me and they didn't speak for 8 years. We have chosen those who are close to us and actually do go to church as the latter argument is unassailable to anyone else. 2 girls and the husband of one of them. We are doing big party as well so am now really looking forward to it - the 2nd may bank holiday.

Cerys had her jabs on tues - she made me chuckle as she just gasped at the 1st but when the 2nd came she was FURIOUS! It was as if she was prepared to overlook the 1st but the 2nd showed they were deliberate and she was under attack. Her outrage only lasted 15-20 secs tho and she stayed sleeping fine the night after - so God bless calpol.

Nicky - if Charlie won't go more than 3 hours between feeds (Did you try adding an extra ounce to see if that would hold her to 4hours) would it work if you can bear it waking her at 7 and tacking them all in then?

Filly - whence the new name?

Katy - lofts are firmly dh's territory?

Gingeme - poor you, what a few days!

Quiet nights to all xxx

fillybuster · 10/04/2008 20:01

Oh, I'd been good all day then got onto Mumsnet earlier and ate 2 carrots (ok), 2 rice cakes (still ok), half a tub of hoummous (less ok) and 2/3rds of a bag of m&s chocolate raisins (very not ok, despite fruit content) in about 10 mins flat...

And we're having wildly fattening pasta & garlic bread (mushroom, madeira and marscapone sauce, so v fatty as well as huge carbs ) for dinner tonight

Hence my need for a new skirt or two!

Barristermum...just texted you...name change was cos I've been feeling distinctly unfluffy recently. Oh, and I was never that happy with my name to start with. Fillybuster is a kind of holding position whilst i try and think of something witty (or just a bit more 'me'), but given that I've been procrastinating on that for ages it seems fairly appropriate

xx

beller · 10/04/2008 21:46

Nicky6 - i think lilyloos idea about movingit 5 mins at a time is a good idea?
George slept from 8-6 last night , hopes its a sign of things to come!! Im flying with him tomorrow, a tad nervous about it,but im sure we will be fine.
Hope everyoen has a good weekend xx

gingeme · 10/04/2008 21:57

Evening ladies. Things are definately improving here re 'the bug'. ds3 has eaten quite abit today and it has all stayed put . ds5 is also back up to full feeds though he seems to only be taking 5 oz now which Im not fussed about as long as it all stays put too.
I put him in his cot for his nap this afternoon. He usualy sleeps in his bouncy chair and he slept for nearly two hours which he never does. He seemed better for it.
Where are you flying to Beller? My George sleeps that long too great isn't it?
ds3's birthday party tomoro. Can't wait. Going to get his cake in the morning.
I hope you all have a brill weekend.
Take care xxx

barristermum · 11/04/2008 08:48

Bit shaky here - just fell down the stairs with Cerys in my arms. I slipped on the carpet at the top and interestingly my instinct was only for Cerys so held her tightly into me rather than fling one arm to save self and measured my length down the flight. Fortunately the stairs twist so didn't get very far but suspect am going to have helluva bruise on my back. Cerys was a bit shocked but beyond a couple of wails fine.In fact she is napping now whilst I sit shaking down here.

lilyloo · 11/04/2008 09:59

bmum that must have been very scary glad Cerys ok and hope you haven't hurt yourself too much.

Beller good luck with the flight where are you going if you have already told us have a good time anyway.

Filly in the no cry sleep book it says the 'night' is between 12 and 5 so if they sleep that stretch they have gone through the night!

Gingeme glad ds is better. I agree if Martha has a good afternoon sleep she sleeps much better on a night. Happy birthday to ds 3

I have got dd1 at home today as she came home from nursery yesterday with a terrible cough so am just trying to stop her from kissing Martha continuously as i don't want her to get it next week. We going to caravan on East Coast on Monday fingers crossed weather improves. This time last year it was glorious

OP posts:
Amani · 11/04/2008 10:16

Hi
Just checking into say hello and hope you are ok.

Got to go can hear DD2 on monitor - she's not been feeling too well, got bad ear infection with a yellow/green pus leaking. Been GP for AB and she sent a swab off to the hospital for analysis. DD2 been very unsettled past few days, not sleeping for more than 3 hrs at night, plus with her ezcema and teething (can feel one breaking through!)she's constantly wants to be sitting in my lap and screams the house down everytime I've put her down (even the neighbours have mentioned they have heard her several times). Been very hard with her and also with DD1, who has picked up on the fact that DD2 is with me all the time, so she has become clingy too. Plus DD2 wants to eat nothing but bread for the past few days and playing up over every little thing........

Am a little better....

madmouse · 11/04/2008 11:02

barristermum well done for saving cerys. Hope your bruise will not be too bad. Have a bath.

Been out with Nathan all day yesterday. Car to Coventry, where dh spent the day in the catheral preparing for ordination, then train to Birmingham to show Nathan off to my colleagues, then to the cathedral to join dh there and for Nathan to meet lots more new people, then to our future parish to view two potential houses one of which the diocese will buy for us. By the second viewing Nathan would not stop wailing and every time he did the woman who owned the place said in a really loud voice ARE YOU SLEEPING, AHH, COOCHIECOO, so Nathan went waaaaaaah again. Feel asleep in the car, tried to feed him at a service station but he got a bit colicky so we did not get very far. He does not feed very well when we are out and about, but he had some big feeds during the night so he should be ok. Wonder if it is me being a bit tense? Anyway, we think he coped amazingly, and me too, going out of my comfort zone a trainride away from dh. Seems silly I know but it is part of the history we have had with Nathan.

Sorry to hear about all the illness, especially ear infections are awful!

LuckySalem · 11/04/2008 12:20

BM - Well done with looking out for Cerys (I hope my instincts do that) and I hope you don't get too big a bruise.

Aaliyah went to bed at 9pm, woke at 11 and then again at 4. She decided that 4am was a good time for mummy to wake up and entertain her. All I could hear was her gurgling.

You know they say to be careful they don't go under the covers (put them at the bottom of the basket kinda thing) well Aaliyah keeps grabbing the cover and either shoving it in her mouth or over her head. Any ideas how I can stop her doing that? Surely it's not good.

mixedmama · 11/04/2008 14:17

Lucky have you tried a grobag, never used them myself but i think they then cant pull them up.

Barristermum - sorry to hear about the fall.

Amani - sorry things are so difficult are you getting lots of support from in laws and DH??

Everyone else hiyaaaa.

I went to my first Weight Watchers meeting on Tuesday and have been counting points ever since, seems relatively straightforward and dont really feel like i am dieting only controlling portions etc. Lets hope I have lost something on Tuesday to keep the motivation going.

Fragolina · 11/04/2008 14:18

Beller - hope you enjoy Edinburgh
BM - well done on your instincts, and hope your back is ok
Amani- hope that ear infection clears up and the clinginess and bread fixation end soon Filly - sympathies on the lack of shopping. I've only bought one item (wrap dress) since T was born, and seem to wear it everytime I have to look semi decent (MIL's fiftieth, farewell dinner for DHs aunt, and its going to come out of the cupboard again for our 5th wedding anniv next week!). I've mentally aloowed myself to go on a mad shopping spree, but don't see anything I really want. Sod's law, isn't it!
Madmouse - well done on all the travelling. Just reading about it made me feel the need for a lie down! ;)
Naetha - ooh exciting about Tryinny and Susannah!
Lilyloo - good luck on keeping Martha a kiss-free zone with that cold going around.

Tana has been unsettled all week after her imms, and refused to sleep for more than about 45mins at a time day or night but DH gave her a formula feed last night at 11, and she didn't wake up again til 5am, and has been napping since 11am (its now 2!!)...debating whether I should wake her. She hasn't been feeding properly all morning though, seems to just have a small snack then a huge, huge vomit. Not sure if the formula didn't agree with her, plus she hasn't had a poo yet (usually has at least 2 every morning).

Depending how she goes, I think I'll keep giving her one formula feed at night, just so she's used to the bottle. Particularly as MIL is babysitting for us next weekend so we can go out for dinner. Although she's had no trouble with feeding from the bottle in the past, DH had a real struggle getting her to drink from it last night, I guess its been a while and maybe she's forgotten. Has anyone had any luck with a cup? I guess I should also express some bm for her, but I only seem to remember to do this just before she's due for a feed!

Ooh, gingeme, hope your DSs are better. wanted to ask about gripe water. I've bought some, but its total war trying to get it into Tana by teaspoon or syringe...any other methods? I can't imagine doing this at every feed, but I think she needs some help with her wind. Not very ladylike

Susiemj - I bought that nursing chair you recommended and its FAB! Need some help on adjusting the positions though, as it didn't come with operating instructions. Help!
