Thought it would be good to have somewhere we can show a bit of support for Madmouse while her lovely new DS is poorly.

Thinking of you all xx

Aww Madmouse, I'm glad you're getting to cuddle him and let him suck. Both my premature ds's liked to lick and nuzzle for a while before they learned to latch on.

I used to find that a rushing nurse/doctor would make some passing comment about my baby that would leave me in shreds. And then the next shift would come on and someone would explain what had really been meant. So I'm praying for good communications (and for Nathan's health, obv!).

ayrshirelolo · 09/02/2008 21:35

Glad he's out of intensive care, friend! Hope the results come through quickly for you all and that the news is good. Thanks for keeping in touch, hope he gets home soon.

madmouse · 09/02/2008 23:28

Hi all

Feeling in a bit of a better place today, less scared and more besotted with my baby. So time to show him off. I have uploaded some pictures, the one in the cot was before it all started, the other one last night (on a friend's mobile, so not very sharp).

Feeling proud...

lilyloo · 10/02/2008 08:39

Replied on Post Natal thread MM but lovely pics of Nathan. So glad he out of intesive care though. Looks like you just have to take things one day at a time as looking at replies of others in similair situation the diagnosis can be very different to how things turn out for the lo's.
Great news about the bf though , well done to you and Nathan!

ladylush · 10/02/2008 17:29

hi madmouse- nathan is a beautiful chap just seen the pics.. your little bit of heaven x

madmouse · 13/02/2008 23:18

Hi all

We have had the result of the CT scan and it has confirmed what the MRI scan said in terms of brain damage. No surprise but better news would have been nice. On the upside the consultant said Nathan is doing really well and only time will tell how things will pan out for our little boy.

In the meantime he is back to his normal baby self and is now getting feeds three hourly. If I am around he gets the breast, which he is really taking to, if Dad is holding him he will make clear that that is not what he wants and when he is put on the breast feeding cushion he positively dives for it and tonight he demanded a topup after breastfeeding, half a feed down his nasal-gastric tube and a nappy change.

His nurses have now asked if it is ok if he has a bottle (with my milk) when I am not around as he is more and more awake for feeds and then he is not happy with a tube feed.

He is not putting on weight at the moment (has been a bit up and down, they are not very worried), but when we have established good feeds he can come home, which is fabulous and scary all at once.

I think I will join you on the post natal thread soon!

susiemj · 14/02/2008 04:26

Hi MM - great news about the feeding. You must be so proud that he i so keen to feed from you!

I remember I felt really attached to the ward as theyhad looked after us so well. Some of us mums were quite happy to be looked after and apprehensive of coming home.

Sorry the results of the CT were not better. He sounds like a very vigorous and opinionated chap, though. That must be positive.

Looking forward to seing you on post natal when you're ready. I think of you every day and dh asks how your LO is getting on! All the best to you.

Dotsie · 14/02/2008 18:55

Hi MM. Brilliant news that he's so keen to feed from you. i hope you get bf really well established soon. he sounds like a determined little chap too, so with any luck you'll be home with Nathan very soon. Positive vibes to you both, love and hugs, Dotsie xxxx

missorinoco · 14/02/2008 19:03

madmouse, he is beautiful. best wishes for the three of you. x

Saggarmakersbottomknocker · 14/02/2008 19:03

Madmouse - been reading your thread and glad to see hear that Nathan is out of intensive care. Sounds like he's doing fantastically well. The docs generally err on the side of caution and although not neuro related my dd doesn't reflect her scans at all. Nathan will have his own ideas of how things will pan out.

Hope you get him home very soon.

Saggarmakersbottomknocker · 14/02/2008 19:05

And I agree - he's gorgeous.

Dotsie · 15/02/2008 18:03

hi mm. how are things with you today? hope everything's ok and little Nathan's doing well. love and hugs to you all, Dotsie xxx

katyt1 · 15/02/2008 20:02

madmouse - sounds like things are settling down and nathan is getting into more of a routine with feeding. hope the nurses are lovely.
and well done and lots of pats on the back for keeping up with expressing as well as feeding
best wishes for further steps and really hope you get nathan home with you & dh soon xxx

madmouse · 15/02/2008 20:54

Dear all

I can't thank you enough for starting this thread and being there for me during those really quite dark and scary days. Nathan is doing well now in himself (and we will just take the special needs as they come - which will be over the next 9 to 12 months) and we are looking at going home once weight gain and feeding are well established.

I am joining the post natal thread now, as I am just as ready to talk milk and nappies as the rest of you.

Thanks to everyone who has posted here and is praying for my little fellow.
