Here is the new thread for the new year.

Update on DS2. He is confident walking and has a very camp run. We have taken down the main stair-gates as he can cope well enough with walking up and down (the stairs have lots of spindles), and he worked out how to open the gates ages ago anyway. Not many words - a form of mummy, daddy, grandma and grandad but that's it. He is a lovely, happy child with a beautiful laugh. If he wants you to come with him he grabs your clothes and pulls you along. He loves playing with cars (lining them up) & trains (we have all the Thomas ones plus tracks from DS1) and his favourite toy is the big sit-in coupe car at his grandparents', although he can't move himself forwards in it yet, only backwards. He's never needed a haircut, although his curls are long when wet. He loves baths and the swimming pool. I just wish he would sleep later than 5am.

Josey - thanks for the heads-up about Twiga. I've posted on her thread - many congratulations to her and her family again.

It's been such a long time since I posted. You all sound well, and even more pg ladies amongst us!

Have to agree with QR about the tantrums. We had a corker of one today. We went to bicester outlet village and ds had the worst one I've ever seen. Totally out of control, kicking/screaming, the works. All in the middle of karen millen where I was attempting to try on some boots.

Kate100, totally agree with you on the bed front. Ds is quite small, so I reckon I've got at least another years use out of the cotbed yet!!

Suzi2, just seen your last message - due on 21 July but already having lots of contractions! Hopefully won't be quite as eventful as last time but you never know ... ! Have moved house since then and don't have a ferry ride to factor in (though I am still 25 miles from the hospital) so not quite as fraught now.

Ds still doing really well in his big bed - he does get out in the morning, but tends to play rather than bellow for us to get up. His language is coming on really well - we are noticing that the babble is reducing and the amount of "real" words increasing so that often his meaning is very clear. My favourites at the moment are "ickyoo" (thank you) and "ninninished" (finished) - which if you don't collect his plate off him quick enough will become "ninnininninished"

We have also conquered the swimming pool now - he was terrified the first time we took him (about four weeks ago - lived too far from a pool before we moved) - but absolutely loves it now. He is very independent and seems bent on teaching himself to swim - refuses to take our hands but will take his feet off the bottom and nearly drown himself in the process

josey - ds loves colouring too - has a set of crayons and must spend a good part of each day at his little table scribbling away - most unusual for a boy!

Miaou - the 21st is a good day... that's my birthday I hope this one isn't as tricky for you. Though I should warn you that I had days of contractions and false labour with DS and I had the exact same with DD this time. Best of luck though - look forward to seeing your announcement. Oh, and a newborn piccie. I'm a little bit broody already... must be nuts . And your DS was just soooo delish in that newborn piccie you posted of him!

Miaou - any news? Hope everything's going well. I've lost track of all these new pregnancies and babies. Suzi, happy belated birthday. I can't believe DS2 is almost 2 - where did all that time go?

i can't believe we're heading for 2 either.....my baby is a little boy now. What have people got in mind for birthday presents? The in-laws have bought a rather expensive playhouse (they have a piece of woodland next to their house so it's going in a play area there), my mum and dad have bought him a small table and chairs. I've ordered him a wheelbarrow (he's always trying to use daddy's) and Finding Nemo on dvd, as we borrowed it off my sister and watch it almost daily.
To be honest there isn't much more than that....he just wants to play outside so it's pointless getting him loads of stuff.
He's getting his last two molars so sleep is very disturbed here, not helpful for me as i have my driving test in a couple of weeks and need to be on top form. He's off his food too....i am really struggling with his diet. He won't eat sandwiches, he's just returning to fruit after refusing for weeks......and he HATES sitting down to eat.

Hi QR That sounds a lot like ds. We haven't got him much for b/day either. A few bits and bobs but nothing special as such. We have been thinking about a pet of some sort but he's a bit young yet I suppose.

I like the idea of a wooded play area with a playhouse though - how fab!

Can't believe our babies are nearly 2. They are children now, feeling really broody!!

We have got DS a playhouse - keter one from homebase, £80, though sort of wishing while I was attempting to build it that I'd paid for Little Tykes! Grandparents are getting a giant slide and I've also bought a plastic picnic table for indoors/outdoors. www.adventuretoys.co.uk often has stuff that has broken packaging but the things insside are fine. They have a lot of little tykes outdoor stuff - look at special offers or things labelled BB. Some are as much as half price!

I've bought a few odds and ends from our local RSPB bird place - finger puppets, tweety bird thing etc. Sort of to support them but I know DS will enjoy the things too.

All those playhouses etc sound nice. We have a playhouse in the garden that I need to spruce up - the boys hardly use it. For DS2 I think I'll get the Brio wooden garage, that's also compatible with all the train tracks etc that we have at the moment, and maybe suggest to my parents that they get DS2 some road tracks. As we're going on holiday that day I'm also going to get some smaller items to take with us - probably including a Ninky Nonk as DS2 absolutely adores In The Night Garden.

Hi, I haven't posted here before, so hope its ok if I join in now...admittedly 2 years late, although I've been reading it a lot! Is anyone else thinking about/working on potty training at the moment? If so, how are you doing it, and how is it going? DS1 is still in nappies but we've started trying to get him to sit on his potty a couple of times a day this week and so far its all a bit hit and miss Any suggestions? Thanks loads, Fluffymummy x

Hello and welcome Fluffymummy - it's never too late to join the thread. I'm not even thinking about potty training at the moment, but know there is at least one person on the thread who has trained their little one already. I didn't train DS1 until he was around 2.8 (it happened very quickly then) - with DS2 I want his speech to improve before I start. Keep posting about how it's going.

We are just back from holiday and dd has only just started to recoved from a stomach bug she got there 2 weeks ago, hoping to get some test results back today from the doc.

I was thinking on potty training her when we got home but her bowls have been in such a state its not really fair on her, like you Azure im thinking her speach is still a bit slow and I waited till 2.5 with ds and it happend with in a matter of days.

She went into a toddler bed last night and after alot of giggles at the thought of climbing out the bottom she had a really good sleep and i didnt have a face next to me shouting Mum in the middle of the night

We also got a puppy on Tuesday, its like having a baby in the house again.

Havent thought about birthday presents yet, we are going to see the tweenies 2 weeks before so that is part of it, but i still have about 5 weeks seeing as she is the youngest!

Who is first to turn 2? was there a few born the end of July?

Is anyone else pregnant again at the moment? I'm finding it so different from last time round, all a bit of a shock! And I've definitely not had time to think about it properly, or get my head around the fact there'll be another baby in the house next January!!

Welcome fluffymummy.

Had a lovely holiday, great just to have a housework free week of just us, playing. Sand was too hot so didn't spend much time at the beach but seeing as we practically live on one we didn't really mind. Ds did so well, with food, sleep and swimming, but since we came home he's learned how to use (not just say) the word "no", which can be quite trying. He's become much more defiant and determined and can really get his point accross. I wondered if it was to do with having us both for a week on hols, the another week and a half after but seems not, this is just our new little boy!
We were meant to fly back in to Glasgow the day of the terrorist attacks so ended up having another night there, which was quite nice though by then ds just wanted home. We finally made it to my Mum's at 3am, he got in to bed with her, lay back on the pillow. stared at her and just giggled, it was so sweet, I think it was his way of saying "ahh, that's what I wanted".
We picked up the lorry the next day, dh had a week and a half to get it sorted and our business began trading on 6th July. It's all been quite stressful and busy, but I'm trying not to let it affect ds. Hence, I'm sat at the desk till 2am most days, trying to get sorted. Also the reason for not checking in here! Dh has been to Spain and back twice now, on his way again so things are doing well. ds loves Daddy's lorry and requests "car seat, Daddy's lorry" at every opportunity. Tears have been known to appear!
Ds's speech is coming on great, his latest is to end the sentences of nursery rhymes, I say this little piggy went to, he says (on cue!) maaa-ket, hooome, beef, noooone, and yesterday MIL taught him Pussycat Pussycat where have you been- ds says beeeen, keeeen, there, tsaaair. He has began to "sing" the last word of each sentence- he really draws it out, eg doggy sit dooown, Mummy do iiiit, yes please Mummy miiiilk. It's quite peculiar as I am known for speaking 10 to the dozen! He's very purposeful in everything he does though so it sort of figures. He came out with a 7 worded sentence last week- "Papa come see you Uncle Joco's car"! He doesn't understand me and you which is quite funny, he says "Mummy help you" asking for help "Grandma bought you t-shirt" telling he what he's wearing. I should correct him more but I really like it!
He hasn't been as keen to use his potty beforre his bath so I haven't bothered, but last week PIL were over and while he was running around naked I knew he needed to go so we ran through nad he did well, so proud he insisted on showing Grandma , then 20 mins later did the same which was great. Then tonight, I was running the cold in to his bath, he was standing waiting, then he walked off, held up his potty (doesn't liek to sit for a wee) to himself and did a wee! I watched silently and just let him carry on, I was so chuffed. If I really went for it I think we could do something but I wouldn't be able to leave the house and I think I'd be on at him every 20 mins all day, but he's just not ready for that sort of nagging, well, I just don't think it's fair on him! I'm pleased though.

For ds's birthday we have got him a few books and a huge box of mega bloks, more for the storage box as he has a few different sized packs. My Mum has the Mega Block cart, PIL big secret but defo some books other than that I'm with QR, he just wants to dig mud and collect stones. He has plenty really. I'm going to attempt to make a tractor birthday cake...!

Thought before hols about taking sides off his cot but untill 3 nights ago he was a nightmare at bedtime so that's been put off for a while.

Oh! And we're ttc. Think af is on it's way (bugger dh always spots it before me from the amount of snarling!) though which is the 2nd month and really don't want to leave it too long. Positive vibes please everyone!

Hi all!! I was first to drop, DS2 was 2 yesterday, my baby is a baby no more, he seems so grown up all of a sudden. DS1 was 4 on Friday too, so we had a joint party for family on Saturday and we took the boys to the sealife centre on Friday as their birthday treat, so we're having a day at home playing with all their new toys today as they're quite tired. We bought ds2 some things for the wooden railway and a scooter, although he hasn't got the hang of it, he just likes pushing it around

Happy Birthday to all those who are coming up, it was fun this year as he had some idea what was going on.

I'm with Azure and Josey on the potty training front, I'm waiting until his speech improves. I waited until ds1 was 2.7 and it happened pretty quickly for him. DS1 will tell me if his nappy's dirty, but that's about it, he's not ready yet, but it's nice to see the end of nappies in sight.

Good luck Bramblina, we started TTC ds2 at about this time and I think the age gap is nice for them, they play nicely together now, most of the time

Happy birthday to Kates DS (hehe 1st to drop)

DD sat on her potty last night by herself with no prompting while I was running her bath, she was fully clothed and tried again undressed, so that is a breakthrough for her as she has screamed at the sight of it up till now, its funny what they do when you ignore them! she will say bum or if you ask her if she is smelly she will say Yah very posh my dd lol! apart from that she would stay soggy for ever and I have enough with house training a puppy just now!

I eventually got her test results back today and they were all clear, thankfully she is on the mend now. I just have to wait to hear from the hospital about her mouth, the flappy bit of skin that joins your lip to your gum well hers is growing out from between her 2 top teeth and the doctor thinks she will need an operation, at the moment its not a problem but it will be when she is in her teens, to look at her you would just think she has a gap.

Still another month till her birthday im thinking of going for a nice dolly with bits and bobs and maybe a trike. I seem to be the only person still posting that has a girl??

Good luck with the ttc Brambalina, we are thinking about it as would like another with out the age gap between ds and dd and poor ds has no life with the stoppy little madam in the house. sometimes i wonder though if it will make him feel a bit isolated as he will be 8 this year.

Just popping in to say I agree re new thread...and came initially while I remember- is anyone switching to semi from full fat milk as the lo turns 2? Is it simply a calorie thing? Ds certainly not skinny so wonder are there any other benefits?

Going to attempt a birthday cake tomorrow for Sat...just as well it's only family coming this year!

Hi, Can I join your thread? My ds1 will be 2 on Monday Aug 6th. I wish I had known about MN when I was pregnant with him. Luckily I found it for ds2 who just turned 10 weeks.
