Here is the new thread for the new year.

Update on DS2. He is confident walking and has a very camp run. We have taken down the main stair-gates as he can cope well enough with walking up and down (the stairs have lots of spindles), and he worked out how to open the gates ages ago anyway. Not many words - a form of mummy, daddy, grandma and grandad but that's it. He is a lovely, happy child with a beautiful laugh. If he wants you to come with him he grabs your clothes and pulls you along. He loves playing with cars (lining them up) & trains (we have all the Thomas ones plus tracks from DS1) and his favourite toy is the big sit-in coupe car at his grandparents', although he can't move himself forwards in it yet, only backwards. He's never needed a haircut, although his curls are long when wet. He loves baths and the swimming pool. I just wish he would sleep later than 5am.

It must have been so hard dealing with your MIL's death and estate C&CsMommy - at least there is the positive of securing your DC's education. DS2 hasn't yet had a haircut - I also can't bear to lose the curls. It will have to be done before too long, though, because the back looks pretty mullet like when wet.

Congrats on birthday Josey.

Colinandcaitlinsmommy its really nice to hear from you glad caitlin's doing well at least if she just comes into you it doesnt mean you getting out of bed!

Lazyline my mummy is a lovely 1st sentence.

Azure I took ds to the childsplay cafe today don't know if you have been. It is quite strange a bit like an old school building and really rambling was quite eerie as very few people there but it meant ds got away from the TV! Our Ds' hair sounds similar could be cute and curly or else a bit mullety!

Happy Birthday Josey. How are you liking the new house? Been to the sweet shop yet?

Josey, Happy Birthday!! I'm 30 in a few weeks too.

Azure - good luck finding a new nanny.

C&Cmommy - I'm glad that your MIL estate is sorted and what lucky children having complete college funds, DH and I are saving already, I know it's a long time away but I'd hate for them to struggle to pay for their education.

Azure - your dream sounds lovely, I have pension worries too, I have a deadline by which I have to be back at work or the terms of my pension change and aren't as good, December '09 is getting closer

DS is getting very wilful his favourite word is 'no' and he is not afraid to use it he also loves shouting 'Josh, Josh' and 'Mommy, Mommy' in a very singsong voice. In fact he says most things twice, 'mine, mine' is another favourite.

We found out whis week that school entry is changing in our area and ds2 will go to school in September not January, so he will be only 4 and a few weeks when he starts school, I'm already worried about how he will take it, he just won't be able to di the things the other kids will I will just have to work extra hard to get him ready and get him through the first term.

Good luck with the baby Pookey

What a wet and miserable bank holiday, at least where we were. I hope the weather was better for all of you.

Happy birthday for the other day Josey. Pookey, I've been to the Childsplay cafe a few times and DS2's nanny takes him most Tuesdays after Crechendo. Some of the equipment is a but old, but there's lots of run-around space. Have you been to the nightmare that is Snakes and Ladders in Brentford? The kids love it, but it can be a hell-hole. Kate100 DS1 was 4 and one week when he started school and didn't have any problems fitting in - he had been in nursery most of his life, which probably helped. There are children in his class who are not surprisingly a lot more advanced than he is in reading etc, but he fits in as well as any.

Hi everyone, what a horrible wet day, its supposed to be sports day tomorrow cant see that happening!

Suzi love the house, we are looking on to the back of Coutens Farm and over Beinn Eighe, not been in the sweet shop yet to be honest though Berry's has had lots of pennies out of me the last few weeks!and the chip shop and bakers came in very handy the first few days. Just so glad to get in as we spent a month living in a wing of Castle Fraser which was a nightmare.

DD is starting to settle down after seeing her own things again though sleeping is a nightmare she has lost her ability to say night and tootle off to her room, she did share with DS for a month though so that wouldnt have helped.

Her sentences are coming on, the other night i was running her bath I heard a voice say "here you are Mum" as she handed my her bubble bath she has never called me Mummy just follows suite of DS and i get a teenage MUM. another one is "nope its mine, all mine"

teeth brushing is a big problem in our house, she will chew a tooth bursh anyones in fact and run about with one all day but if I try and brush her teeth she throughs herself on the floor and lashes its really scarey.

Pookey sorry to hear about your dad, glad they are getting something done about it though, they left my dad till it was far to late, saying he had an infection.

are you going to do anything nice Kate? hope you enjoy it when it comes.

lol Josey, I was trying to work out where Beinn Eighe was... I think you mean Bennachie?

Berrys was a strange shop when I lived there. It was originally Duncans and was the most old fashioned place ever. When they sold off to Berrys they sold off original 70s platform shoes they still had! I can't think where the bakers is, perhaps it wasn't there when I was there. Arthurs the sweet shop is definately the best in the world with the best ice cream! Glad you're enjoying your new house. I had 17 very happy years there.

Hi I joined the Aug 05 antenatal thread but I sort of dropped out....can I join this one?

DD is Aug 25th - being the baby of 2 older brothers, who are nearly 4 and nearly 5, she is very independent, her favourite word is no and she potty trained herself 3 weeks ago (feeling rather proud of that one!)

Number 4 due in Nov so we'll see how she reacts to that one!

Nice to meet you all......

C&C's mommy, so sorry to hear your news but as others have sadi how fabulous for the dcs education, couldn't wish for a better gift.

Josey, happy belated birthday, I was 30 in December and it hasn't bothered me in the slightest like my peers were; almost hysterical! LOL at Beinn Eighe, that's 20 miles away from me, in Kinlochewe! Thought you had ended up in the wrong town!

MrsJ and at the potty training! Has anyone else had any thoughts on this next stage? Ds uses his most nights before bath and in the day if he has his nappy off he can tell me what's coming IYKWIM, but he's no where near being able to plan it enough, too busy with his toys! Or is anyone putting the lo in to a bed soon? Ds has been great at going to bed recently, so I'm in 2 minds, do we take the chance as he's been so good, hoping he'll stay that way and we can do it before he realises? Or is it just going to ruin the fact that he's so good?! Advice from the pros, please-?!

Ds won £50 from his premium bonds a few weeks ago so we decided to spend it on some outdoor toys, yesterday we bought him a sand pit and 2 weeks ago we waited at the auction mart for 3 hours to bid for a go cart he just wouldn't leave alone- ended up getting it for £1! I also found a Mega Bloks car transporter and dump truck in TK Maxx which he just loves.

Ds seems to love the water in particular. We started swimming lessons 2 weeks ago, this stage is mostly about gaining confidence but tbh he has no problems there, was happy to jump in from the side twice (yet when he jumps off the settee etc he won't jump till he has hold of my arms). In the garden last week had hysterics when playing with the hose, turned it on himself and just giggled and giggled. Then Grandma got it.

Our neighbour's house caught fire on Saturday, they were away for the day and the house is gutted, they have lost everything. Ds loved the fire engine though it's not very often we get commotion like this!

Hello and welcome MrsJ, and congratulations on expecting #4. Am at the potty-training; I'm not even thinking about it at the moment. With regard to beds, DS1 moved into one when he was 2.3, and so I'm expecting a similar timeframe for DS2. It'll be quite sad to pack up the cot for the last time (although in another way good to move on). Bramblina, your poor neighbours - thank goodness they weren't caught in the fire themselves, though. Lucky DS winning on the premium bonds - I've had some all my life (40 years) and only won once!

Honestly with the potty training I didn;t do anything - I was going to wait until the Summer and see what happens.... The boys took ages, so I was expecting the same thing. I guess because she is always with her brothers and sees what they get up to in the bathroom she didn't want to be left out.

I am not thinking about beds until oh at least another 10 years!!! I have enough disturbance from the other 2 during the night without DD aswell. The boys were in their beds by 2.5 years as I recall. DS1 was good, but DS2 took ages to get used to not falling out - poor baby. I will probably do it at Christmas time. It will be a treat after the new baby arrives.

Bramblina - well done to your DS on his winnings. I expect he was ever excited about his new toys, not to mention the fact that he also saw real life fire engines!!! Your poor neighbours.

Azure - that was my name on one other parenting websites. How funny!!

We've thought about potty training - mainly because DS is grasping what's going on in his nappy. But we'll wait another few months at least I think as I don't have any time to devote to it with DD still being a wee livewire!

DS is sort of in his big bed. We got given a little tykes car bed and he's been playing in and out of it for a few weeks. The other night he was awake almost all night teething and with the cold and refused to go back to his cot. We negotiated (at 5am!) that he could try his big bed, fully expecting to go in 10 mins later and take him away from his toys etc. But he went to sleep! The same happened for a nap 2 days ago. And last night he woke after being down just 2 hours and got upset going back in his cot so again, we humoured him fully expecting him to play and not sleep and he slept without a sound until 8am!

We will continue with the cot as much as possible as he sleeps in a travel cot at his grans and I'm not sure how he'd be if he wanted to be in the big bed.

Brambalina I know I dont even know where I plucked that one out of lol[lush]nevermind i dont mind being the dafty of the bunch lol!

DD isnt never to either bed or potty, DS was 2.5years when we were actually in swimming and he asked to go to the toilet, so we took it from there, as with the bed it was about the same time and only because he could climb out the cot

I nned to geet DD settled again after moving before I chuck anything else at her, definately after her birthday though

I didn't potty train DS1 until he was 2.5 and it only took 2 eeks as he was totaly ready, so I'll probably do the same with DS2. As for the bed..... no way!!! DS1 went into a bed with a guard at 20 months as we needed the cot for DS2, but he always got out and ran around, the only thing that stopped that was he broke his leg and couldn't move and now he doesn't ever get out, until I get him. DS2 however, is such a monkey, he would run around the whole house causing all sorts of mischief, so I'll put him in a bed at about 13

Thanks for the reassurance Azure, I know he'll be fine, but it's come as a shock, I just wasn't expecting it at all.

Where did my baby go? He's still not talking really, but is going to his big bed instead of the cot. I feel quite sad as we watched him on the video monitor and he got up, fetched himself a book, took it back to bed, pretended to read it then settled down to sleep. Fair enough he's not under the duvet and is the wrong way up! I just don't believe it is this easy. We had so many sleep issues with him for the first year or so I can't believe he'll just do this. maybe the novelty will wear off. now I have NO idea what to do when he goes to his grans next weekend. mattress on the floor?

I guess we're lucky that he's still too short to reach door handles without his shoes on!

ds has started having his nap midmorning again instead of afternoon........
we're looking out for a second hand cotbed because we need to sort out a room for him at grannies so he can stay overnight, we're going to Notts in Decemeber to see a gig and he'll have to stay there. plus our social life would improve massively if they can have him overnight because we need to get home at 11pm for whoever babysits!!!

Urgh QR I know that feeling sorry that you had a bad day.

Suzi 2 thats so cute about your little one being all grown up and independent

DS is another not ready for a bed yet. Kate at staying in cot till 13, maybe that would be a good invention for teenagers though, a little mini prison!

Hi Mrs Jetson!

Azure I have never been to snakes and ladders but I can imagine I will end up there one rainy day unfortunately!!

On the nappy front DS says 'poo poo change' and most of the time he has done a poo, but I want to put it off until next year because it will be too stressful with no 2 due in the next month or so. I guess maybe I should do it now before no 2 esp as his nappy is usually pretty dry in the morning but I have read that they take steps back in that department after a sibling is born which would be really depressing.

DS has had an ear infection so I am knackered I really need a good sleep!!

Report
kate100 · 06/06/2007 18:06

QR, ds2 also has days when he can be a little monster, we went to the play session at the leisure centre and when his turn was up on the trampoline he would not get off and I had to climb on to get him down

We're off on holiday soon, can't wait, ds2 wasn't walking whne we went away last year, but this year he'll hopefully be able to do a bit more.
