Has been a tough week. Freya has been poorly (only a cold, but she has been pretty out of sorts with it) and she has been incredibly whiney and has refused to eat anything. Yesterday she ate 4 strawberries and drank some milk. She is a bit better today and ate some dinner, so I think we have turned a corner. Hopefully she will be in top form for the weekend cos she has been invited to a birthday party on Saturday - should be fun.

CristinaTheAstonishing · 13/07/2006 22:25

I hope Freya gets better, Jo, and that you all enjoy the party. Sylvia is invited to a 1st birthday party this Saturday, already thinking what dress to get her in. Knowing me, it'll be a mad last minute dash and she'll end up with odd matching top and shorts and socks.

ukrainianmum · 14/07/2006 12:09

Hello!

Jo-we wish you to Freya to get well soon.Even if it is a cold still it is horrible when our kids are ill.

Well,Ksenia visited her first Birthday party. My friend's daughter turned two so we dressed up really nice, made up a hair and....it was a barbeque in the forest nearby.I post some pictures later.Anyway kids had a great time exploring the nature and we had some tasty food!!!We were all so exsosted so the cake waited till next day and we had the second part of the party.

And yestarday something happenned to Ksenia. She started to cry every now and after she fell asleep she woke up and cryied for 3!!!!! hours in a row!!what it can be?

ukrainianmum · 16/07/2006 14:28

Wow!!!

No one here for two days.I bet you all have a great time. And we do not spend the best time in our life.Ksenia got really sick yesterday.started with severe vomiting and at night the diarrea came to visit us.And now Ksenia main food is water and special formula milk. She sleeps mainly all the time and the time she doesnot sleep she spends in somebody's hands. The worst thing is that she cant speak so we are guessing what she wants or what she feels.Tomorrow will call the doctor.and till that hope Ksenia's health wont get worse.

God bless you all.Bye,XXX

JoPG · 16/07/2006 18:42

Sorry to hear the Ksenia is poorly. Hopefully she will bounce back pretty soon and will be back to good health.

Pidge · 17/07/2006 12:09

Hope Ksenia is on the mend soon. It's so upsetting when they're ill isn't it?

We have had a pretty hectic weekend - a birthday party for dd1 on Saturday morning, then the Lambeth Show, where dp was playing trombone in the flower tent! And dd1 whizzed round on the carousel, and the 'mini wheel'.

Then on Sunday I was out running, then lunch with dp's parents who were babysitting the girls for the rest of the day whilst we drove down to the opera at Glyndebourne. We had standing tickets (i.e. very cheap), and it was utterly wonderful, though pretty hard work standing up through 3 hours of opera. What a treat though. And apparently the girls loved their time with the grandparents. I was a bit worried about Iris who has been very grumpy recently, but she was fine.

JoPG · 18/07/2006 12:03

Don't mean to moan, but it is seriously too hot. Ethan is flaking out when he gets home from school, and Freya is getting so hot at bedtime.
How is everyone else getting on?

Freya's new favourite toy is a toy buggy from ELC which belonged to Ethan. We have got it down from loft and she potters round with it filling it with cr*p and then emptying it elsewhere (very rarely does a soft toy get a ride, and she couldn't put a dolly in it cos we haven't got any) Trouble is, Ethan has decided that he wants to play with it again so there are sometimes fights. May just get another one, it was only a fiver iirc.

jambot · 19/07/2006 06:39

Lauren has suddenly developed a crush on all her soft toys. She carries them around the house, piles them together and then lies down on top of them and sucks her thumb. Quite sweet.
Another big hit has been putting stickers on a low window. She loves them and takes ages picking them off and re-sticking them on. They don't last long, but they're cheap and keep her busy for ages.
Seems like you're experiencing weather like I'm used to. Very tiring. Apparently it'll be over by the weekend. When I was in London two years ago there was a heat wave and it was horrible. Going on the tube in that sticky weather was horrible. Everyone was literally dripping with sweat! Yuk.
Where is everyone these days? It's gone very quiet on here lately.
Busy??

leogaela · 19/07/2006 12:53

I love the heat! but can understand that its really hard for small children to cope with it. I also have the benefit here of being able to go to the lake or out door pools.

Lauren sounds really cute with here cuddly toys .

Niklas also has a buggy that he likes to push around. he isn't interested in putting anything in it though. He likes to push it off and see how far it goes without him holding it. apart from that he is still so uninterested in toys. he seems to know when something is a toy and deliberately avoids it.

he has really mastered eating by himself with a spoon now, can scoop the food up and get it into his mouth perfectly !

We think he is getting really frustrated with not being able to talk. He has started hitting himself around the head in frustration!

OP posts:
leogaela · 19/07/2006 12:54

and we haven't heard from Bonym for ages either.

OP posts:
Pidge · 19/07/2006 13:33

I quite like the heat too. Don't even seem to mind going running and cycling in it, though I do get pretty drippy!

LOL at Niklas bashing his head in frustration. They do get so cross when they can't get their point across don't they.

Iris is on top form at the moment. I was late home from work yesterday (gone 7pm, which is usually bedtime) and arrived to find her and dd1 in PJs, and Iris building and knocking down towers with dp, and just chortling with delight at her cleverness and shouting "looooook".

ukrainianmum · 19/07/2006 14:17

Hello ladies!!!!

Ksenia got worse on sunday night!Really high temperature. So we called an ambulance and ended up in hospital in intencive care. She is good now.we actually at home now coz hospitals are horrible here.but doctors still dont now what it was.She had a dripper and some medicine in a shot and now she is back to her normal herself only still on stricked diet.BTW Ksenia loves to play with the toy buggy as well the only thing she cant stand if thereis a doll in she gets so angry.ANd throws away everything. And when she finishes to play with the buggy she is getting angry as well coz she tired of but cannot leave it coz it is favourite of them all.

Oh,now you are talking about the heat.We kinda get use it now here.It has been so long that even the rain doesnot wash it away.Lots of my friends dont believe that is hot here but it is.The weather here very strange. The summer will last till october and then in a couple of days the cold will come.Ther is little time to adopt to weather change.
Anyway, the good thing about heat is that you always have an exuse to pu your feet up.

Leo-how are you feeling?

Take care all and take some part in lifeof this thread.

leogaela · 19/07/2006 14:46

Poor Ksenia ! you must have been really worried. glad to hear she is getting better now though. Its really horrible when you think your baby is ill enough to go to hospital.

Apart from the bad cold I am doing great thanks ! I have just read that though that the 6th week (this week) is when the morning sickness usually starts, last time I got it from day 1 and was just hoping I got lucky this time!

OP posts:
Pidge · 19/07/2006 21:56

Gosh - ukrainianmum - what a fright. I'm so glad she's on the mend. And I hope you are recovering from your ordeal.

Leo - hope you'll continue to be well, both pregnancies with me morning sickness started around week 5-6.

We have my parents staying which is bliss. The kids adore them, and it means we have loads of help and actually get some jobs done. Which is a good job, because things are frantic here. It's dd1s 4th birthday on Sunday, I'm doing a 10k run that day, plus we go away to Denmark next week, so we're trying to organise that.

jambot · 20/07/2006 09:24

Hope Ksenia's feeling better UM. It must have been terrible having to take her to hospital.
Enjoy your holiday Pidge. Have you been before?

BonyM · 21/07/2006 19:32

Oh, am never going to catch up, and don't have time now, but wanted to say hello and I will try to find time soon.

BonyM · 21/07/2006 19:33

Oh blimey - have just noticed that Leo is pg!! Congratulations!

jambot · 23/07/2006 21:09

It's getting sooo quiet on here! Is the holidays or what? Where's Busy? Haven't heard a word for weeks.
Cold and raining here at the moment. Definitely wellie weather. Lauren's rain suit is coming in handy as all she wants to do is go outside - rain or shine. She waits at the door like a little puppy wanting to go out. No more words. "Deh" stands for everything, although she's also keen on cars, so we get 'ka' sometimes, but that's it really. The odd Dadda, but no Mamma for months. Weird as she understands fairly complex instructions and knows exactly what we're saying.
Suddenly started playing with proper toys. Never interested in all her real toys before now. Thought they'd be a waste of money, but she's starting to enjoy them. Bought her a mini pram for her 'babas". She jams all her fluffies in it and wheels them all around. Crazy about fluffy toys ATM. She can't look at one without going all silly and having to suck her thumb. Think it's because they're made from similar fabric to her beloved 'blankie'.
Hope the UK weather has cooled. Now you know what our summer's are like - although luckily in Cape Town it's never humid, so I find it bearable - except when you're 8 months pregnant

BonyM · 23/07/2006 21:12

Well, finally managed to catch up with everyone's posts! So sorry to hear that Ksenia was so unwell Umum, but glad that she is recovering.

Grace is absolutely gorgeous at the moment (well, she always was of course! ). She is such a happy little soul and chats away all the time - mainly gobbledigook, but is really trying hard to say proper words and copies the best she can.

She eats like a horse most days and is a complete cheese monster. We only have to open the fridge and she starts pointing and saying "chee" in a very urgent manner. I swear she would live on nothing else given half a chance! She also loves dry Shreddies, bizarely, and is constantly pointing at the packet. If anyone else is eating anything she is right in there, wanting a bit (strangers included!).

She has a great sense of humour, and the cheekiest grin you've ever seen.

She is still sleeping well but the last week or so has been waking about 5.30am and whereas if she woke at that time in the past she would have a feed and then go back to sleep, now she is ready to start the day. She did sleep until 7am yesterday, but of course I was awake at 5.30am and then lay there wondering why she hadn't woken and worrying! Back to an early start this morning .

Hope everyone has had a good weekend, and will catch up again soon.

Pidge · 23/07/2006 21:36

Hi BoneyM - great to hear from you and Grace.

We've had a lovely day - it was dd1's 4th birthday, and we've got my mum and dad staying. I managed to persuade everyone to come and cheerlead me on a 10k run in Regents Park! Then we all retired for a picnic with friends and had a wonderful time. Iris polished off the most extraordinary quantity of chocolate cake!

We're about to disappear on holiday for 3 weeks from Wednesday, so maybe the last few posts from me for a while. Probably squeeze in a couple more mumsnet sessions before we disappear.

jambot · 24/07/2006 07:54

Grace sounds like Lauren Bony. She also loves cheese - cheddar, camembert, blue - you name it!
It was her cousin's 9th birthday yesterday so we all went round to DH's brother's house for a late lunch. They don't entertain on a small scale, so there must have been 50 people there. Lauren also polished off two pieces of chocolate cake. She was even licking the icing off the paper plate! Of course she was covered in chocolate.
Hate going there as they have a massive swimming pool that isn't fenced off. Their kids are quite big now so they've removed the net, but doesn't help those with little ones. Can't relax at all as Lauren makes a bee-line for it every time. At least our pool has a net on so she can't get into trouble.

jambot · 24/07/2006 07:54

Happy Birthday to DD1 Pidge. Sounds like she had a lovely day.

leogaela · 24/07/2006 12:21

Thanks Bonym !

Jambot, i guess Busy is on holiday and its probably quieter than usual because its school holiday (isn't it?).
We still have fantastic weather here, i love it but I know its bad for hte environment (permafrost and glacial melt in the mountains is really bad) adn for our health (increase ozone).

Grace sounds like a real sweetie at the moment! Niklas too is on good form and this morning also actually played with real toys ! he has a carport which he pushed cars around for a while and played with a few ohter things. He loves playdo.
he has a new word!!!!! Kaki - meaning poo! He says it when he notices he has pooed. he said is yesterday morning so I asked him if he wanted to poo in his potty, he nodded his head. it was so funny, dh sat on the toilet, Niklas on the potty opposite him, he kept standing up to have a look and then almost, almost did it, but half went on the floor !
he also isn't shy to ask strangers for food if they are eating something he likes the look of. at the park or pool he will qutie happily go up to someone esles things and try to help himself .

anyone read the book 'How to talk so children will listen and listen so children will talk'? Anyone tried to apply it or got any feelings about it?

Pregnancy symptoms are still light !

OP posts:
BonyM · 24/07/2006 13:35

Leo - I am currently reading that book! Am about 3/4 of the way through. I really like some of the ideas although some of it is a bit "American touchy-feely" for me.

Think that it may be more useful for dd1 at the moment as think Grace may be a little young for a lot of the concepts.

jambot · 24/07/2006 15:59

Leo - Niklas must have Afrikaans roots. Kak is Afrikaans for SH#T
Lauren is totally oblivious to all bowel movements, even the most dreadful. Think she would happily mush around in a pooey nappy all day without any problem. She's interested in her wee if she does one in the bath, but that's it really.
