Are your children’s vaccines up to date?
Biscuitsandtea · 12/09/2012 08:39

Oooh yes I'd forgotten the vanish mousse type things. Good luck with the whiff Hawthers

Good luck with everything Dream Smile

DreamingOfPeace · 12/09/2012 08:54

How long did E lie awake looking at you biscuits? Did it work and he go back to sleep?

Biscuitsandtea · 12/09/2012 09:09

Probably 30-40 mins or so Dream but he just lay there quietly. It would have been quite nice if it weren't midnight....

And then just as he dropped off ds1 hot up about 4 times on the trot. Once just to tell me he loved me....

NinjaChipmunk · 12/09/2012 09:18

hawthers I believe bicarb of soda will get the smell out. Give me a minute and i'll find you some instructions

hawthers · 12/09/2012 09:24

Ooh ninja I love a household remedy and vaguely remember that from last time he was sick on the carpet...

NinjaChipmunk · 12/09/2012 09:25

hawthers here you go

Another surprising use of baking soda is to clean up a vomit mess. This is particularly effective if you have the vomit on your carpet. Put on your rubber gloves and scrape up the vomit mess. Cover the carpet area with a layer of baking soda and leave for a few minutes. Scrub from edges towards middle with a brush or sponge and moisten repeatedly in clean warm water. Sprinkle the area again with baking soda and leave to dry. Lastly, vacuum up the powder.

level headed in a crisis, I am!

Biscuitsandtea · 12/09/2012 09:34

Last time ds1 was sick DH caught it in his hands. This is another option which avoids getting it on the carpet at all?

scarletfingernail · 12/09/2012 09:50

at all the vom talk. I hope that was the only incident Hawthers and you all managed to sleep afterwards? Poor DS1, how is he today?

Brooking for you Dream. As long as they get fed forget about everything else.

Just realised my legs resemble a gorilla's. Need to get my epilator out sharpish, swimming in a couple of hours.

NinjaChipmunk · 12/09/2012 09:52

biscuits I have been vommed on as have my soft furnishings so many times in the last 5 years (mainly when ds was little) my carpets have had everything chucked at them. I have also caught vomit in my hands more times than I care to mention. You do need a second person to help you rectify that one though unless you happen to be near a sink. I have also experienced having vom down the inside of my top/ bra many times which is wholly unpleasant.
hawthers if the smell lingers pour some more bicarb on it once dry, brush in, leave for a bit then hoover off.
dream good luck for today, channel your inner drill sergeant!
pomme I hope the sleep improves soon.
I can't watch OBEM, but bake off was good. Some of those savoury pies were hilarious.
Well ds seems to be enjoying school which is good. No tears, he trots in, puts his lunch bag and drink on the trolly, hangs up his fleece and bag and goes off to play! Just discovered an old 6th form college friend of mine has a son who has just started in the class next door, we were both hugely surprised to see each other this morning!
Now what to do today....I think I may try to make myself a mei tai for dd. She's at a funny stage for the ring sling, her legs are a bit too short to come out but she's not comfortable sat on them inside for long (she has long legs for a baby!). Must google for some other positions for her.

musicalmrs · 12/09/2012 10:12

Ninja, your knowledge of useful household cleaning magic is fabulous!

Dream, good luck for today - I'm sure you'll be fabulous!

I'm really enjoying the bake off. Not sure I've ever made a savoury pie. That's one for the to do list...

Iz had a good night with only one wake up - probably due to jabs, but hurrah anyway! They've obviously really tired her out, as she's an hour into a long nap. Gave me time to catch up with OBEM. Just watching it makes me broody again...

NinjaChipmunk · 12/09/2012 10:19

musical bicarb is amazing stuff. It can clean artwork off walls, melt snow and when used in conjunction with a potato it can clean rust off metal apparently!
DD slept till 6.30 this morning after last feed at 8.30 last night! Shame ds woke at 4 needing the loo and dp snored from 4.01 to 6.29.....

pommedechocolat · 12/09/2012 10:20

Ninja - I have a brown, enormous, slightly crusty stain on my bedroom carpet from dropping a bottle of red wine there yesterday am. I'm thinking a rug..?

I'm liking all thr broodiness! I however, am done. The embryo hopuse is closed and in a few months the milk bar will be closed too. Then I can sit back and watch all my friends have babies Grin

NinjaChipmunk · 12/09/2012 10:44

will see what i can rustle up pomme, just got to feed dd first.

Biscuitsandtea · 12/09/2012 10:45

Scarlet I carefully examined ds2's feed this morning. How long does that froth take to go! I reckon the 7oz of water probably increased to at least 7.5oz, possibly 8.

Today there was 6oz left (he fell asleep half way through my attempts!) so he perhaps had 1.5oz, some of which spilled back out as he drank it etc. so maybe an oz! Confused

Hope he gets the hang of it soon. I think when we did the same with ds1 he totally refused at first and it took us a while to even get to an oz or two going in so hopefully he'll figure it out soon? Confused

pommedechocolat · 12/09/2012 11:04

biscuits - I can get dd2 to have 2oz from a beaker by holding her up - pointing her out looking at something interesting (usually dd1 :))

Biscuitsandtea · 12/09/2012 11:17

Ah that might be the trick Pomme - he did spend about half the time turning his head round to watch celeb Masterchef that I had on the telebox.

You know how you said you don't bf between 9-6 now? How much does dd have from a beaker in that time? Several 2oz feeds or some bigger ones or some from a bottle? I'm still doing a bf in the afternoon as can't cut them down too quickly but might ditch that one next week too while we're on holibobs. But then I wonder whether I should wait until he can easily do the beaker before I drop the other daytime feed?

PetWoman · 12/09/2012 11:56

Hello!

Hope Dream is having a good day. Remember to breathe deeply if it all starts getting stressful - works for me when I'm teaching but may not be as effective with crying babies .

Scarlet hope the swimming went well.

Pomme has A's reflux / sleeping improved since weaning?

I'm about to go to a weaning class at a nearby children's centre - will report back if they tell us anything useful that you lovely ladies don't already know which is highly unlikely .

PetWoman · 12/09/2012 11:58

And yy to the weird froth when you've made up a formula feed! So glad it's not just me!

Have recorded the Bake Off. Love that show.

NinjaChipmunk · 12/09/2012 12:00

pomme did you blot the excess away when it happened? You could try soda water? pour on, leave for half a min, blot off and repeat several times? other things to try could be white wine (seems a shame to pour it on the carpet though) to take the colour out of the stain? or maybe pour salt on, leave for a bit then hoover off (not sure if it needs to be a fresh stain though). Is that any help? If I come across anything else I shall let you know. I bet someone in the good housekeeping section could help?

NinjaChipmunk · 12/09/2012 12:08

for pomme

this might help

or this
The first step is to get up as much of the offending drink from the carpet as you can. If you start with the cleaning part too soon you will just dilute the stain and cause it to spread. Use a kitchen towel, or any cloth that you have on hand, and begin to blot the stain. Make sure the cloth is clean, as you don?t want more stains added to the mix. If you have any disposable diapers in the house, they?re ideal for this. Work from the outside in, using a blotting action.
Dab, Don?t Rub

When you?ve got up as much of the stain out of the carpet as you can, pour some club soda or sparkling water over the remaining stain. In rather cunning style, the fizz from the drink brings more of the stain to the surface of the carpet. Now blot and dab at the stain again, to get more of the wine out of the carpet.
Still Got a Stain?

Tackle the remainder with a mild detergent ? work on small areas at a time, still using the dabbing action, and work from the outside in. Rubbing at the stain at this stage, however tempting, will not only spread it, it will also damage the fabric. Now dab again with clean water to rinse the detergent, and finish by blotting with a dry cloth. If you?re still left with a whiff of wine in the area the next day, sprinkle some baking soda on the carpet and leave it for 20 minutes before vacuuming it up.

pommedechocolat · 12/09/2012 14:42

Thanks Ninja - am going to try soda - just hope it works on day old stain or maybe week old stain if it happens post holibobs. I've definitely over-rubbed already. You are very handy :)

pet - massive, massive improvement on the reflux. Sleep has improved somewhat (but still not brilliant) but I think that's somewhat due to stopping feeding to sleep too. I know I'm in the minority here but I love weaning!

biscuits - nope. She has 1 2oz feed of formula and maybe 2.5oz total of water (and fruit puree and 2oz cows milk in weetabix) so fluid in the day is an issue. She feeds 4 times 6pm-9am thou so overall she's fine. I think I'll have to cut out the 9am feed to really get her to drink more during the day which I might attempt post holidays. I think dropping them first is going to be the trick myself. If they can manage without they will I reckon. Painful though, much screaming first two days of no 13.30 feed here.

Did I mention Im going on holiday tomorrow?? Grin

Biscuitsandtea · 12/09/2012 14:56

Hhhmmmm so ds2 is having a good feed at 7-8pm then nothing until say 6am, when he has another good bf. then 1-2oz formula mid morning, a good bf straight after lunch and perhaps 2-3oz water across his three meals. Seems a bit light probably but early days with the beaker do hopefully he'll increase the beaker intake and we'll be ok Confused

At least we haven't had screaming dib dabs about the beaker like ds1 did. To my mind this must make him further along the road to accepting it?

scarletfingernail · 12/09/2012 16:18

Loving the good housekeeping chat Grin

Swimming was good. Apart from me being mega paranoid about my horrendous period that would have rendered me to bed if I did not have 2 kids to sort out. I've never had one this heavy and painful before. DD seemed a bit bemused by the swimming and it was pretty cold. But she was wearing her wetsuit and she didn't cry at all. She just kept looking up at me with this sort of "wtf are we doing?" expression. 3 of the other babies screamed from start to finish so it wasn't a very relaxing experience, but overall it was quite enjoyable. She's been zonked out in bed for the 3 hours since we got back. DS is having one of his "play with me mummy" days where every time I try and get on with something else he begs me to play. I really want it to be bedtime already.
