Holly, that's great!! It's amazing what a little sleep does for you! Hmmm crumpets sound yum, actually...might have to put those on my shopping list! My nights are fuzzy..still keep falling aslp sitting ip during feeds & therefore I think I'm keeping Emily up too long (albeit aslp on my pillow across my lap) & feeds are a bit start stop....prob not a good habit to introduce. This happened with my 4th old too & she's really just stopped wanting into me for a snuggle & to sleep 2-3 night's/week!

digitalgirl · 30/04/2012 18:54

Holly how are you finding the iron tablets? I was also given two months supply but I stopped them yesterday after becoming painfully constipated. Today it was worse - like labour all over again (just without the hideous contractions).
Well done on the sleep - Ds2 also slept better last night (waking at 3:30 for an hour and 7:30) so i wasn't so grumpy this morning.

HollyPockett · 30/04/2012 22:15

Tablets aren't bad butbim drinking fruit juice like it's going out of fashion to offset it nice also developed the dreaded haemorrhoids so it's all so scary when I need to go and so uncomfortable. The dizziness for me is far worse tho so I'm choosing the less of two evils.

I'm trying really hard not to gall asleep with Diva on mynlapnin the night deeds, it's bloody hard isnt it.

On the name front, I reaaaaly want Francesca but my DH just can't make his mind up!!

VintageNancy · 01/05/2012 00:01

I'm on iron too (650ml blood loss) and also suffering with constipation. Oh the joys!

I love Francesca Holly. Do you have a middle name picked out?

HollyPockett · 01/05/2012 02:04

Middle name will be Stevie after my big bother who passed away 8 years ago...

Boomerwang · 01/05/2012 04:09

My days have turned into nights, and vice versa. I'm sitting here at 5am listening to the Grunter (that's her new name for a while) do her thing in the moses basket and my bf is sleeping on the sofa after falling asleep watching Twilight.

The big geek.

Bunsouttheoven · 01/05/2012 05:25

I'm shattered, I had mastitis in one breast, started to clear but the other breast has come out in sympathy. Sad

Hv thinks ds2 might have a Tongue tie, though is putting on weight ok but could be the cause of the mastitis.

Ds2 is still jaundiced at 3 weeks, hv said they advise testing but we have declined at this stage (10% of bf babies are jaundiced at 4wks)

Ds1 is getting over a strange virus or nave impetigo. Poor chap he has been such a joyHmm

I must admit I am feeling rather wretched & sorry for myself.

digitalgirl · 01/05/2012 09:36

Oh buns how demoralising to be getting mastitis in other boob. Are you on ABs? I took them straight away and the redness cleared up within a few days. Ds2 also has minor tongue tie and am really struggling with his latch, nipples still coming out pointed after a feed (from being against the hard palette). We have the hv coming over today so might ask for a referral to see about getting it snipped - I'm not sure when things are supposed to improve on their own.

DS up frequently last night - 12.00, 2.30, 5 and 7. I know that's not too bad but I feel knackered again. Oh well, here's hoping a shower will perk me up.

marshmallowpies · 01/05/2012 10:05

Poor buns that sounds awful. Hope that massage, hot flannels etc all help & things start to improve.

We got nipple shields yesterday & this means DD can finally latch on for a good long time instead of coming off every 5 mins or so.

But it must still be taking her a long time to extract the milk as feeding sessions are lasting up to 2.5 hours! (she fed last night from about 10.45 to 12.15, then 3.30 to 6am). Woke her up at 9.30 & she's now been feeding for 30 mins...I could be here some time!

Also even with nipple shields I get a lot of pain on the left side when she feeds...and some bleeding. Am hoping the right side will continue to deliver the goods until my left nipple heals a bit!

Bunsouttheoven · 01/05/2012 10:10

Yes digi am on ab, though have only been given a weeks worth & I think you should get 10 days/ 2wks according to guidelines.

If you suspect tongue tie definitely push to get it checked, especially if it's hurting.

I got hold of the breastfeeding coordinator number from my hospital & phoned her direct. Hv wasn't sure who deals with it & isn't working today so I didn't want to leave it. Anyway, they are coming this afternoon to assess him. My nips aren't terribly painful but you can't see his tongue if you pull down his bottom lip, will not do a wide gape & has a heart-shaped/ v shape on the end of his tongue.

Maybe check this out digi re Tongue tie info

digitalgirl · 01/05/2012 15:05

Thanks buns Think I might get the referral

HV just been - ds2 is now 4.8kg!!! Think that's 10lb 9oz?

taten · 01/05/2012 17:13

Hi folks, can I join? Had a lovely baby boy on the 13th of April. I have a daughter already she's just turned 21 months. I really thought second time around would be easier but I had forgotten how hard the bf is (currently trying to get through cracked and sore nipples') and how little sleep you get (made worse by my little girl who has been really poorly and only wants mummy -she actually starts screaming hysterically if I don't get to her quickly). My son seems to have an enormous appetite and looks as scrawny as the day he was born and to top it off he has no name.....sorry for the verbal rant!

Bunsouttheoven · 01/05/2012 18:47

Congratulations & welcome *taten' , yes even third time round I am finding the newborn state very hard. Does everyone keep asking 'have you chosen a name yet?' we hadn't chosen for a week or so & everyone just went on & on.

So the last came to look at ds' tongue & snipped it. Actually it wasn't nearly as horrible as I had imagined. There was no blood, ds was more cross about the woman holding his mouth open. Now have to try & teach him to stick his tongue out & get a better latch.

taten · 01/05/2012 19:58

Hi buns, thanks and yes we have had constant questions re name, as soon as we know everyone else will!
I saw a bf counsellor yesterday and she thinks the little one has a tiny tiny tongue tie, but I have been loath to see anyone because of the thought of anyone snipping it. Interesting to hear what you said about it.
Did you suffer from baby blues? I have with both of them although I think it's starting to ease off a bit now (famous last words)

Bunsouttheoven · 01/05/2012 20:25

taten I have embarrassingly been a blubbing mess. So emotional about everything. Meant to go to a singing/music group with ds 2mrw but fear I might sob when they sing the lovely lullaby at the endBlush

Honestly the heal prick test was worse than the tongue clipping.

taten · 01/05/2012 20:55

I have felt guilty over not playing with dd enough, then thinking that ds arrival wasn't special enough, crying over dinner because I needed to eat but I needed to feed him as well, oh dear .....

HollyPockett · 01/05/2012 21:43

Ladies, I applaud you having the Tongue the snip, of course it's best or baby but how brave.

We had the heel prick test yesterday, the midwife did what she needed to do while the Diva was feeding, she didn't bat an eyelid! DH on the other hand had to leave the room :).

She's also gone from her birth weight of 6.8 to 7.1 in a week!!!

HollyPockett · 01/05/2012 21:44

How many spelling mistakes on my last post! One hand typing while feeding :(

riamay2011 · 01/05/2012 22:05

Hi ladies! How are we all? Sorry not posted for a while! I had DD jessica on 14th March if u've forgot...but i was due 6th April.....
Shes doing really well. However ive had meningitus :( been real poorly. Had to stop breast feeding due to medication too which i was upset about.

Xx

LaTristesse · 02/05/2012 07:11

Hey Ria, poor you getting meningitis, that must have been so scary. Hope you're doing better now...
Welcome Taten, know what you mean about blubbing lots. I'm still at it now and DD is 6 weeks today!
Holly have you got a name for your Diva yet? I love that you still call her that!

OP posts:
karensb · 02/05/2012 08:38

Hi llong time lurker here!!

My ds was born mid april weighing 8lbs and has been ff since birth.

However, I am worried about how much he is eating. He is having 4 oz every 3 to 4 hours. Seems a lot too me but he often still grumbles for more.

What are other ff fed babies having?

HollyPockett · 02/05/2012 08:55

The Diva has a name!! Francesca Stevie :)

Although with the faces she pulls, she is a diva!!

karensb Can't help with ff amount I'm afraid. I'm bf but every 3/4 hrs, sometimes more!

JambalayaCodfishPie · 02/05/2012 09:25

karen

My dd is having 3oz every 3-4 hours.

holly Love the name! Grin

Jellybellyrbest · 02/05/2012 09:31

RiaMay that's terrible! Was it Bacterial or Viral? So glad your LO didn't get it too. Fingers crossed thongs are improving for you all. Re the breastfeeding; there was no way your body could have coped with b'feeding at a time when you were so ill, so don't best yourself up about it. More important that Jessica has a well mummy now to take care of her. Do they have any idea how you contracted the meningitis? It's one of my biggest fears for my children. It's so dangerous.

Jellybellyrbest · 02/05/2012 09:32

Things are improving, not thongs!!!!
