dewin I'm really sorry about your friend. I lost a friend to cancer a year ago and she also had a toddler. It's very hard to take in actually (especially because she was in Canada) and mostly it seems unreal still and then I just have moments when I think of her. I have lovely things that she knitted DS1 when he was born and I really treasure them - DS1 wanted to play with a slipper she'd knitted (put it on his teddy) and I wouldn't let him and I've now put it away because it's the last tangible link in a way...

SpiderWilliam · 27/12/2010 23:23

Dewin that's terribly shocking. So sorry for you and her family.

We're off to my family's "do" tomorrow followed by 5 hours up to the NE to stay with PILs. I'm slightly in dread after all the fallings out I've had with MIL this year. I hope that by changing our plans (we had said that we wouldnt travel with a small baby this year) and visiting them we can put it behind us and move on. The fallings out are all v odd as it's only really started since I got pregnant this Spring. Confused

Xmas with the 4 of us was lovely. It's so nice to see P be excited by it for the first time. DH and I, whilst shattered, are both finally feeling bug free and we have just been pottering around.

We've put P under a duvet for the first time this week (an Xmas present from Grandpa). It's had no adverse effect on his sleep. He is q excited about it. We also got him a gro company sleep training clock which amusingly he was delighted with. As yet no transformation in his wake up time, but I bought it in desperation figuring that it was worth a shot. When we are back from PILs we will put him into a proper bed because now he is out of sleeping bags he can vault out of the cot with ease.

Amberc · 28/12/2010 02:19

Oh dewin I can't believe it. I thought she had more time than that and was going to have chemotherapy to give her more time. How terrible for her family and for you. I am up cos I can't sleep and thougt I'd check
in. I hope you are ok hun x

sybiltherednosedreindeer · 28/12/2010 10:30

How awful dewin, such a terrible thing to happen and so quickly too. Her poor, poor family.

J had a temperature of 40.6 yesterday. Today he is running about like a mad thing and attacking his siblings. It;s either the quickest recovery ever or he is going to crash and burn this afternoon.

Rolf · 28/12/2010 11:08

I'm so, so sorry Dewin. Her poor family.

DebInTheDales · 28/12/2010 23:25

Dewin, So sorry to hear about your friend, there aren't any comforting words to say are there? I hope the funeral is better than you expect it to be.Take care.

systemsaddict · 29/12/2010 09:36

So sorry dewin that happened so fast Sad.

SpiderWilliam · 30/12/2010 17:50

Hi everyone. We went to visit Deb and her lovely family today. It was great to see them again, but they have had a run of major stresses since moving. Only got Internet via phone so it's hard for her to post. Still no heating fuel so they are still living in the living room. It should come next week. It should all be worth it though as the spot they have moved to is stunning.

Staying with PILs for a few days and thankfully it's all going well:I am managing to stay on best behaviour!

abdnhiker · 30/12/2010 18:50

Spider thanks for the update on deb, it's lovely that you got a chance to catch up.

It's my birthday today and dh has organised getting me a new iPhone which I'm learning to use so apologies for my spelling and punctuation.
Since all our family are overseas we get sent money but this is definitely a treat because of the monthly cost. He's forgotten my birthday entirely in the past so this is extra lovely as its out of character.

Dewin how are you? Having a good Christmas? I hope so and that you're not too upset about your friend or upset that you're not upset iyswim - it's hard to take in.

The boys have been acting up when dh and I are both home but were lovely for the past two days when dh and I took turns working. I think they just get too excited but it is frustrating when you want to celebrate with them.

Any big new years plans? We're staying in.

DebInTheDales · 30/12/2010 22:39

thought I'd make the effort to get on and say that Spider and her lovely family braved the cold and came to visit us today, and she's beaten me to it GrinLovely to see them all and meet Baby W, who was just gorgeous. I had a nice long new baby cuddle. It was funny to see P and Ethan playing together again, Ethan has caught P up now with size and shared his toys very well. P loved the Bobby car, maybe for his birthday????

abdn - no new year plans here either, am trying to get an invite from old friends on N Yorks, but we've left it too late and they're all busy or ill!

Counting down the days until the oil arrives, but at least we have water not like all those poor families in N Ireland

dewin, how are you?

Happy New Year everyone, hope you're all well.

DebInTheDales · 30/12/2010 22:40

oops, sorry forgot to say HAPPY BIRTHDAY Abdn, what a lovely present, your dh has come up trumps this year.

KeepCalmAndHaveAnotherMincePie · 30/12/2010 23:26

Dewin, I'm so sorry to read about your friend. Thinking of you and all her family.

Deb, can't believe your heating woes! Lovely that you got to catch up with Spider today.

Happy birthday Abdn - and welcome to the iPhone club! Saw on fb you're planning to knit a cover - very cool.

Very busy festive period, lacking a bit in time to relax though! Supposed to be off to friends for dinner/staying over tomorrow, but S is a bit poorly now so not sure if we'll go. He's been a bit snidely and off his food for a couple of days and had a high temp last night. He seemed a bit better this morning, but his temperature is up again tonight - about 38.5. He's had two doses of calpol but not had much of an impact. Torn between a pfb need to phone the doctors and a more 'there's really nothing to worry about' approach. I'll probably sleep with him tonight so I can keep a wee eye on him.

KeepCalmAndHaveAnotherMincePie · 30/12/2010 23:27

sniffly not snidely!

SpiderWilliam · 31/12/2010 00:16

Happy Birthday AH. iPhones are awesome. Well done your DH.

Deb - funny that I beat you to it. Ethan was lovely at tolerating P going through his toys. Hmm... A bobby car... Need a bigger house first.

DGT - hope S perks up tomorrow.

abdnhiker · 31/12/2010 07:20

Keep calm -hope you had an ok night and have a healthier one today.

Deb- you are very good not to be complaining with all the hassle you've had. How are you feeling about the move in total. Are the bits set up for school ? Is there any homesickness for Austria? We watched the sound of music yesterday and it reminded me who gorgeous it is there plus you were all settled and now there's all this upheaval.

Where is everyone else?

neenz · 31/12/2010 10:46

That was very brave Systems! So glad you got there OK - I bet it was well worth it.

Really sorry about your friend Dewin Sad. My prayers are with you and the family.

Christmas was great here. The DTs opened the brio track and one Thomas each and didn't want to open anything else! They managed it eventually tho of course and loved all their toys. But when we went up to mum's they seemed a bit scared and didn't want any more presents. We opened them the next day.

It has been great having DH home. He went back to work yesterday and I was so depressed! It's hard looking after all the kids on my own and lonely too sometimes Sad. We have such a lovely time when DH is home I get the post-holiday blues really badly. It only takes a few days to get over it though and get back into the swing of things.

We have had illness here too - esther had high temp for a few days and spent afternoon in bed on wed, but seems much better now. Theo and Daniel dont seem 100% but a bit of calpol here and there is doing the trick. My niece has been ill with a virus for over a week so I am glad they haven't had it that bad. Sybil 40.6 Shock - NHS Direct said that was when you needed to start worrying. I actually slept a lot better after that cos I knew E wasn't that bad.

We have been having some fab lie-ins this Christmas - 8.30am again this morn Smile. But on Christmas morn I was too excited to sleep and got up at 7 making lots of noise. Grin

Off to MIL's tonight and staying over. I prob wont make it to midnight tho.

Deb, hope you get the oil soon. You're right about NI - it must be awful to have no water. We had no water upstairs on Christmas morn cos of frozen pipes and only cold water downstairs (I had to wash my hair in the sink) and it was hard. And that was only for a few hours.

DoNotFeedMeMincePies · 31/12/2010 16:01

dewin so sorry to hear about your friend. My thoughts are with you and her family.

We are a house of whining and snot at the moment. C had a dreadful cold with very high temps, bucketloads of green snot, a horrible cough - the works. It peaked on boxing day when no-one but mummy would do and mummy was well and truly done in by tea time. There is only so much whining and reading of the same book (farmer duck) that I can take! Poor little mite felt dreadful though and is only really getting back to herself today. Unfortunately D is now getting it.Sad

We had 2 power cuts last night affecting only our house - something to do with the meter. We had to get the emergency team from Scottish power out at 1930 and again at 2245. At least it happened after the thaw, or we'd have been cold as well as in the dark! Seems to be fixed now though...

SpiderWilliam · 31/12/2010 21:45

Penguin photos finally on FB!

Happy New Year everyone.
Xmas Smile

DebInTheDales · 31/12/2010 23:46

Lovely surprise today - the oil tanker arrived, yippee!!!!!!!

Happy New Year everyone from a warm and toasty Teesdale

KeepCalmAndCarryOnMNing · 01/01/2011 15:36

Just checking in to see if new post-Christmas name is working...

Yay for heat Deb!

Amberc · 01/01/2011 17:10

Hi everyone - I am such a complete nob and hid this thread by mistake on my iphone (fat finger syndrome). I have only just worked out how to get it back!

Just enjoying my final week pre twins - well I say enjoying as obviously the nursery is closed and Luke is home 24/7 which is incredibly difficult - any other week! Trying to entertain a boistrous 2.5 year old and carrying 14 lb of baby is not easy. Still Friday is D day and Luke is back on Tuesday which does give me some pre madhouse rest days.

Just opened our lovely shiny new double buggy only to find it is missibg a wheel! Very upset about it. To his credit the guy at twins store did immediately call me on his mobile when I sent him an irate email this morning. Hopefully I'll get the wheel on the 5th (so he says).

When I saw Penguin photos on facebook I thought they were of penguin and she'd had her baby - is that right - I couldn't see anything or is that an answer to a Q from penguin asking for photos?

Deb - thank God you have your heating at last!

Mine pies - hope the lurgey is all gone. We have man flu in the house.

Hope everyone had a great NY (mine was spent asleep from 10pm although many wakings and a 4.15 start due to sciatica - God bless pregnancy)

DewinDoeth · 01/01/2011 22:26

Happy new year everyone!
Pregnant with toddler = party party party on NY eve obv. Wink Went to bed, but woke up with all the fireworks.
Then got up and spent my first 1/2 hour of 2011 retching. Grin Start as you mean to go on, eh? (I'm a bit annoyed because I'm 13 weeks now and still sick in the mornings. Angry)
PILs came to stay, and it was bearable (much criticism from FIL because I don't cook meat - this from a man who doesn't cook at all, being a man in a house which feminism missed) but they left early because I wasn't well - I did stress that I really am like that every morning and it passes by lunchtime. Anyway mustn't be too negative because they gave me a purple le creuset for Christmas (purple is my favourite colour). (Actually, thinking about it, I hope that wasn't a backhanded thing! Grin)

Nothing much to report here - haven't done much! And I'm now panicking because Amber will have two babies by the end of the week and I've only got one completed little dress. Maybe they'll have to share! Grin

Hope all are well, and glad that Deb is warm.

A p.s. for Sybil: get advice on the tax rebate, says DH, but his (non inland revenue) view is that if you have 'changed your position' (i.e. spent the money) based on the rebate without any suggestion or thought that they had made a mistake, then it's bad luck IR, because they gave you the money and they need to, er, sort out their accounting! Could ask my sister - she's a tax accountant. (But so is Hard&Sleazy I think. Mind you, she's far away and probably doesn't give a f* about tax at the moment - quite right too! Grin)

Amberc · 02/01/2011 02:54

Dewin stop retching and get knitting!!!!! One dress will be fine and they can share so don't worry! When are you next in
London anyway to see the little ones in the flesh?

KeepCalmAndCarryOnMNing · 02/01/2011 12:40

Hi everyone, happy new year!

We made it to our friends in the end for Hogmanay which was good fun. Thanks for all good wishes for S - his temperature was back to normal on Friday so we decided just to go. He's been a bit out of sorts for the last day or two, but we put that down to the effects of all the travelling around we've done over the last week, however, we've woken up this morning and he's covered in a rash Sad I suspect it's just a bit of a viral rash as a result of his cold and high temperature. Shame though, we thought we'd get him out today and tomorrow to the park and beach etc to run off some energy. Now staying indoors and I suspect things will get a bit fraught! Especially as I've sent DH off to ikea to purchase more storage solutions Wink

S is pleased it means he gets more calpol today though Hmm - he went up to DH yesterday and said 'am a bit hot daddy, I need calpol'!

Amber - I can't believe you've so little time to go! I hope you get a bit of a rest this week. I think Spider was letting Penguin know she's put pictures of William on fb - I had a look yesterday, he's a wee cutie!

Biscuits - How are D and C now? What a nightmare re: your power cuts; I hope everything is in working order now. If you have a look on Knitting's fb page, you'll see some chat about her planned trip to Edinburgh Zoo - hopefully you might be free and fancy a trip through?

Dewin Sorry the ms hasn't abated!

S is now particularly whiny so I best go and sort him out!

DoNotFeedMeMincePies · 02/01/2011 17:47

Hi all, Happy New Year!

Amber, good luck for the birth, hope you get through the next few days with L at home, I was knackered on my dsys with C at home at the end of my pregnancy, and I was only expecting one! C's nursery shuts for 2 weeks at Christmas, so she's not back until Thursday.

Keepcalm, C is much better thanks for asking, although still pouring snot. D is still poorly, and has almost lost her voice, she's got a pathetic little squeak instead of a cry. She did manage a smile on Thuesday though, so that was lovely. I have added a comment on the zoo trip on fb!

Dewin, sorry you're still being sick, hope it stops soon. Is it as bad as with Iestyn?

Deb, so glad you've got oil, it must have been awful.

Neenz, know what you mean about the post holiday blues when DH goes back to work. It's a lot harder on your own with toddlers isn't it, particularly in this weather.

Sybil, how is J now? has his temp stayed down?

Spider, lovely photos!

Abdn, happy belated birthday!

Sorry for anyone I've forgotten, I have been keeping up to date mostly on my phone while feeding at 3am which has led to my lack of posting recently. This is the first time I've been on the proper computer for ages!

Anyone else got any resolutions for the year? I don't make resolutions as such, but have decided that I am going to go to weightwatchers and properly lose the baby weight this time, as last time round I never quite shifted it. Please nag me about it! I am also going to make an effort to stand up straight, as I have a massive bust and tend to slouch, which is only made worse by nursing bras. ( I HATE nursing bras). Finally I am going to get fit, and I think I will aim to run the Glasgow 10K in September. Hopefully by writing this all down there's a chance I might do it!
